OK so yea some supports got buffs and that was nice, but the mercy nerf weakened the support category as a whole and that’s a huge problem.
Nerfing mercy doesn’t just affect mercy. It affects tanks that rely on healing and it affects the viability of certain comps/second healers.
Why is that so bad you may ask? Well the fact that mercy has been nerfed means zen gets a direct nerf himself since mercy was the main healer you’d pick to balance out zen’s low heals as second support.
Now listen, this isn’t the opinion of some angry mercy main I wanna make that crystal clear. I don’t like the fact that she’s so terrible now yes, but l can just deal with that like I’ve been doing from the start. Mercy gets another nerf? Big deal just keep playing her when I don’t want to try super hard on support; not a problem.
THE ISSUE THOUGH is that Ana and Moira are TOO easily countered to be Main Healers.
Ana - Pretty good main healer. Yes she struggles with getting flanked/dived/having to be in LOS… oof you know what for a main healer she has a lot of weaknesses and I’m not even done… Her BIGGEST weakness are barriers. How are you gonna save your teammate when Winston bubbles them and they’re either too low on HP or too dumb to leave the bubble? How are you gonna heal them when your teammates are committing to a fight but are behind a rein/orisa/sym barrier? You can’t and that’s to be expected because when Ana WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED she was designed to be countered by shields WITH MERCY’S previous healing in mind. Enemy team got too many shields to heal through? Just go mercy problem solved. Now that mercy is an off healer though that’s a problem. But hey you say “what about moira? Can’t moira just take mercy’s place now instead?” Hmmm well let’s get to that.
Moira - Capable of putting out large amounts of damage and heals even at the same time, has a pretty reliable means of escape, and can peel dps flankers as a support. Overall a really strong main healer with her only weakness being she’s extremely immobile without fade and she has to be extremely close to danger during team fights to do most of her healing. While Moira can heal through barriers with heal orb, said orb is too inconsistent and EASILY COUNTER-ABLE BY MULTIPLE HEROES. If you’ve played Moira you know the frustration of heal orb. Sometimes it’ll bounce off an object in the map before getting to your team to heal them at all thus wasting your ability and getting them killed or sometimes even when you lined it up perfectly your teammates simply moved out of the way of it before it got to them and they didn’t get healed. On top of that heal orb can be eaten by dva, deflected by genji, and even blocked by mei wall; heck even Pharah/lucio/winston can boop your teammates away from a life-saving orb. Point I’m trying to make is, if the enemy team is dedicated to making your healing orb useless, they can do so very easily with DVA alone.
There’s no longer a main healer that can consistently heal through shields (or really consistently in general) without getting said healer killed in the process. If Moira fades behind an enemy shield to heal a low hp teammates she’s just put herself in the thick of the danger with no means of escape for a solid 6 seconds; plenty of time to fire into slow, naruto running support. Even if she tries to use a heal orb to help both her and her teammates out, DVA will just eat it, boom dead Moira dead team.
If Mercy is gonna stay nerfed there needs to be a NEW main healer that can CONSISTENTLY heal through barriers and won’t have their healing abilities so easily countered. Because right now, the meta is extremely dps friendly which ISN’T healthy for the game.
Yea you might be currently having a field day as a DPS main, but this also means a lot of people are spending way more time in respawn than actually fighting due to inconsistent heals and the support category taking a hit in general. This makes the game as a whole is unfun since everyone is dying so much and if the game isn’t fun what’s the point of playing?
