Are We Just Gonna Ignore How Weak Supports Are Now?

OK so yea some supports got buffs and that was nice, but the mercy nerf weakened the support category as a whole and that’s a huge problem.

Nerfing mercy doesn’t just affect mercy. It affects tanks that rely on healing and it affects the viability of certain comps/second healers.

Why is that so bad you may ask? Well the fact that mercy has been nerfed means zen gets a direct nerf himself since mercy was the main healer you’d pick to balance out zen’s low heals as second support.

Now listen, this isn’t the opinion of some angry mercy main I wanna make that crystal clear. I don’t like the fact that she’s so terrible now yes, but l can just deal with that like I’ve been doing from the start. Mercy gets another nerf? Big deal just keep playing her when I don’t want to try super hard on support; not a problem.

THE ISSUE THOUGH is that Ana and Moira are TOO easily countered to be Main Healers.

Ana - Pretty good main healer. Yes she struggles with getting flanked/dived/having to be in LOS… oof you know what for a main healer she has a lot of weaknesses and I’m not even done… Her BIGGEST weakness are barriers. How are you gonna save your teammate when Winston bubbles them and they’re either too low on HP or too dumb to leave the bubble? How are you gonna heal them when your teammates are committing to a fight but are behind a rein/orisa/sym barrier? You can’t and that’s to be expected because when Ana WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED she was designed to be countered by shields WITH MERCY’S previous healing in mind. Enemy team got too many shields to heal through? Just go mercy problem solved. Now that mercy is an off healer though that’s a problem. But hey you say “what about moira? Can’t moira just take mercy’s place now instead?” Hmmm well let’s get to that.

Moira - Capable of putting out large amounts of damage and heals even at the same time, has a pretty reliable means of escape, and can peel dps flankers as a support. Overall a really strong main healer with her only weakness being she’s extremely immobile without fade and she has to be extremely close to danger during team fights to do most of her healing. While Moira can heal through barriers with heal orb, said orb is too inconsistent and EASILY COUNTER-ABLE BY MULTIPLE HEROES. If you’ve played Moira you know the frustration of heal orb. Sometimes it’ll bounce off an object in the map before getting to your team to heal them at all thus wasting your ability and getting them killed or sometimes even when you lined it up perfectly your teammates simply moved out of the way of it before it got to them and they didn’t get healed. On top of that heal orb can be eaten by dva, deflected by genji, and even blocked by mei wall; heck even Pharah/lucio/winston can boop your teammates away from a life-saving orb. Point I’m trying to make is, if the enemy team is dedicated to making your healing orb useless, they can do so very easily with DVA alone.

There’s no longer a main healer that can consistently heal through shields (or really consistently in general) without getting said healer killed in the process. If Moira fades behind an enemy shield to heal a low hp teammates she’s just put herself in the thick of the danger with no means of escape for a solid 6 seconds; plenty of time to fire into slow, naruto running support. Even if she tries to use a heal orb to help both her and her teammates out, DVA will just eat it, boom dead Moira dead team.

If Mercy is gonna stay nerfed there needs to be a NEW main healer that can CONSISTENTLY heal through barriers and won’t have their healing abilities so easily countered. Because right now, the meta is extremely dps friendly which ISN’T healthy for the game.

Yea you might be currently having a field day as a DPS main, but this also means a lot of people are spending way more time in respawn than actually fighting due to inconsistent heals and the support category taking a hit in general. This makes the game as a whole is unfun since everyone is dying so much and if the game isn’t fun what’s the point of playing?

i just saw a lot of “moira and ana are too easily countered” when they’re both viable
ana in particular is one of the best carry heroes in the entire game and has an extremely strong pickrate in all levels of play

moira is a bit one-dimensional because she’s basically a tank healer that doesn’t do much else but she’s still fine

I’m a tank main actually and I don’t like the fact that I’m expected to make space with bare minimum heals thanks to poor decisions made on Blizzard’s part. But aye least Hog is finally viable.

before the rework zen was meta and didnt even need a main healer, lucio was the other most picked support

so? healing was and is still way too powerful in this game

literally only mercy was nerfed, the brig nerfs are more like a small slap in the wrist

if ana wasn’t strong she wouldn’t have one of the highest pickrates in the game n the highest tiers and the pro scene

ana by design has a really loaded kit and that’s why she has los limitations and low mobility and sustain to balance it out
she’s a strong hero either way

OK 1 lucio zen strat only works are high to pro-level scenes. The lowest it’s viable is high Diamond at best and that’s me being generous. Most ppl who play this game are plat and lower so idk why you’re bring this up. You think plats can pull a lucio zen comp off and win? No.

  1. Healing still too powerful? What?.. Explain in detail why you think this because what I’ve seen no amount of healing is gonna save you from all the current burst damage happening in this CC/Stun meta.

3.Look dude I’m gonna say this ONCE the MAIN reason i care is because I’m a TANK main and I wan’t to be able to DO MY JOB without wanting to SHOOT my brains out. Yes I play Mercy. NO I DON’T LIKE PLAYING HER. I will literally pick Moira every time don’t even trip fam hard trust on this.

Them why are the top 6 heroes either tanks or supports?

People will need to learn to get to those medkits instead of spamming the “Need Healing” option every time they get a bug bite.

The problem the meta has is that tanks are adopting bad habits of face tanking and being expected to be kept topped off, ignoring ways to avoid damage.

I say this as someone who has played a lot of Moira competitively…

A) Saying she isn’t mobile without her mobility is sort of silly

B) I’ve literally never felt motivated to switch heroes due to any form of countering. She’s incredibly versatile. The heal orb is fine.

Imagine thinking Ana is strong when she has the most weaknesses of any hero in the game:

  • Can’t heal through barriers
  • No vertical mobility
  • No horizontal mobility
  • High skill hero
  • Only self defence a skill shot
  • Only self-heal on a very long cooldown
  • Only self-heal only replenishes 100hp
  • Only self-heal susceptible to DM and Deflect (note: No other hero with a single self-heal has this problem)

This is true, that’s the reason Biotic Nade MUST stay on a 10 second cooldown. But to use that as your reasoning to say she’s the most powerful hero in the game when she quite clearly needs a second form of health replenishment, or a way to use Bio Nade without using the anti-heal, is frankly farcical.

why would she be the most picked support in pubs and the second-most used in the pro scene

why would pros that play to win run a weak hero

Maybe you’re mistaking Overwatch for something it’s not.

Overwatch isn’t a standard fps. It’s pretty much a hybrid of Team Fortress 2 and a MOBA. Healing being as powerful as it is is part of the game’s design.

Healing in Overwatch is meant to deny kills and elongate fights. That’s how it works. That’s what it was designed to do.

since when should competitive games be balanced for average players? maybe the arcade should suit plat players’ needs? maybe? not comp tho

check out other:

  • shooters
  • mobas
  • strategy games, rpgs, fighting games, etc

healing in 90% of those games is an additional factor, a bonus, here in overwatch somehow healers define the meta and being that ow is a mix of moba and shooter, well it is powerful
maybe when you see players winning with just one healer or none, a buff to overall healing should be considered

if you constantly need healing to do your job as a tank players well… you know what goes next
