Just watched the Overwatch Spotlight. Did Overwatch cook? Is M.Rvls in trouble of losing half their player base?
Is this cope or an attempt for cheap humor?
Why would it be either… You dont think what Overwatch did was any good?
When the best thing in a big reveal is skins…yeah, no.
I mean marvel still Has something over them and that’s hero releases and permanent BP. So I doubt MR is going away. And MR doesn’t have a bad reputation yet. So I doubt they just fade away.
The best thing being skins? Not sure you watched the spotlight, but there was ALOT more than just skins announced … Perks for one.
Skins were the worst part. All those weird magic anime girl skins was so strange.
Blizz did cook on this one, the rare big W. as for rivals playerbase, no idea what affect it will have, and likely would depend on how much people enjoy the perks, and come s16 how much people like stadium.
overwatch 2 has been a catastrophic failure at its inception
The issue is that OW has been out for so long that very few new players will sign up.
Marvel has both the IP and the new car smell for those who’ve never played a hero shooter before.
Will a number of OW players tune in? I have no doubt. Will it drastically increase player count? I’m very skeptical on that.
Rivals is way more casual friendly and thus more accessible to newer players, OW has a more hardcore following. It’ll be interesting to see.
No, I think Marvel Rivals will be okay. They have the advantage of the following:
- Popular Marvel heroes (and a huge archive of them to pull from)
- A faster hero release cadence (come on OW, give us at least 4!)
- A different take on hero fantasies and their abilities that players might prefer
- A well received battle pass system (still technically fomo but you can take your time leveling it)
- A bit of a different gameplay style that suits other players
- Seems fairly balanced, bans, teamups, and seasonal buffs seem to help
- A different competitive system that is bottom up, which some players might prefer
- New solid seasonal events, not the biggest thing but 1 each half season seems nice
- Pretty good cosmetics, many tie in with hero themes
- Fun storylines with the seasons, an overarching story tie-in with hero releases
- Tournament systems (idk if its good)
- Already has ban systems in place
- Earnable rewards seem popular over there (I don’t really know I don’t do the achievements or buy cosmetics)
And who knows what new things they could bring! So, I think Marvel Rivals has a lot to show and they are getting started. OW has a lot to make up for but if they can keep it up, maybe they can get their stride back.
And what GrinkDaBoy says is true, it helps not having a bad reputation that is easy to meme on. Even if OW does everything right, it’s hard to shake off the jokes. Hell, people accept No Man Sky is a better game, but some people still crap on it or reference it as a cautionary tale for the way it launched. I think that definitely plays in the psychology of how players perceive the games and their changes.
– Changes are not arriving till S14, so April+
– Rivals have new heroes and other stuff lined up for release, likely 2 times before that
– Most of the changes are “let’s add that thing from Rivals”
– Some of the things risk sending the game out of whack, like imbalanced perks
I don’t know. I don’t want to say “it’s late for OW” - but I really doubt it will pull MR’s players.
Stadium is the truth.
And the skins were still the best part. Crazy
Rivals will be fine. Overwatch is setting itself up for a showdown with Deadlock for the #2 hero shooter position.
MR has lost 40% of it’s player base in 2 months
Rivals seems like more of a casual party game to me, not really something to take serious in a competitive setting.
People keep saying this … with NO SOURCE
you can literally check steam charts your self
You do realize that steam is not the only launcher right? There is Epic and MRvls own launcher.
This is just steam. Which happens to every game on steam.
