A lot of people seem to be complaining about the Sombra changes, when really on paper, they don’t sound nearly as bad as people make them out to be.
Keep in mind that I am around mid Plat and don’t really play competitive that often, which is why I’m asking for perspectives of people who play comp more regularely or play on higher ranks. I’m also not trying to attack anyone and I’m looking for civil discussion. This is simply my opinion.
My question is: What exactly is so bad about the changes? I highly doubt it’s the spread decrease, because all that does is allowing Sombra to get headshots more consistantly from a bit further away that usual, which isn’t even much to begin with.
Also, her hack changes affect 5 heroes in total. I agree that the way hack affects characters like Lucio, Genji and Pharah is pretty bad, since they heavily rely on their mobility and passives, but again, that’s 5 heroes total who are now more affected by hack. For the rest, Hack is exactly the same except for the small speed increase, and you can’t honestly tell me that the 0.15 seconds was all you needed to consistantly interrupt Sombras.
One argument I see every now and then, is that there’s not much counterplay to her, and in some cases, I guess that’s true. Hack is pretty fast, and EMP goes off pretty much instantly, plus Stealth makes it hard to do anything against her. Then again, it’s been that way even before the patch, so why are people complaining now?
My guess is that people are just unaccustomed to seeing so many Sombra players around, now that she’s been brought to the spotlight more, and they don’t really know how to react or counteract Sombra play.
Again, that’s just the way I see it as someone who generally likes to play Sombra but not necessarily on a highly competitive level. I am genuinely interested in what exactly people have a problem with when it comes to these changes.
I like most of the Sombra changes but her hack is very strong against everyone. If it didn’t disable some passive but not others then I think it would be more balanced.
I’m guessing what Blizzard was going for is to give Hack more power on targets that weren’t really that affected by hacks before. The effect is however the opposite, where these targets are now pretty much rendered completely useless, which I agree, is a bit too much, especially for Genji and Lucio.
I think they buffed the hacking ability bit too much. They either should have buffed the speed of hacking or the stopping the passive ability (genji wall climb, double jump, etc). buffing both was bit too much in my opinion.
Nah she isn’t that strong, tbh i find Mei has had better QoL changes. Sombra is just the flavor of the month. She is still a very niche hero that puts a lot of pressure on the other DPS to perform.
My only comments on the sombra changes are sombra’s effect on Lucio. I think Lucio loses a little too much when hacked. Unsure what I’d recomment to be more balanced - but that’s about my only complaint. (Note: Not a Lucio main, just observed how neutered he can be in games either playing him or playing sombra).
you mean lucio has to walk like everyone else and not have high ground advantage for 5 seconds? these are rich kids who have to be middle class for a few minutes and get to be rich again. losing wall riding and speed boost for a few seconds isn’t a big deal
I think a lot of the reason people are saying Sombra’s buff was too much is because more people play her now. She was never really considered to be powerful, so no one learned how to counter her. Now that she is powerful and useful, no one knows how to counter her.
Also, I think it’s a little unfair that she can hack a Tracer in-between reloads.
And I also think that her hack cooldown should be increased. Six seconds? Really?
The hack cooldown is balanced, the hack timer is not. Maybe there should be an adjusted timer for different characters. like Rein .7 Dva .65 Tracer .7 etc…
I feel that this is the best descriptor as to what is happening, Its almost like she is a new hero in terms of the amount sombras running around. This means that the community at large suddenly has to deal with this very powerful ability that was hardy ever used, and by extension, means that most people do not have the mindset and understanding to counter it.
I think back to when Ana was nerfed so she couldn’t 3 shot pharah anymore. We saw a larg spike oin the amount of nerfs for pharah as a major source of damage was removed. Eventually we all learned to trust the Widow and other hitscans on our collective teams to deal with her and life moved on.
Maybe your right. They should make it to where when Sombra is being sprayed with Mei’s Cryo-gun she cant translocate. They’ve been trying to buff Mei and have over-buffed Sombra a bit. That could be a good middle ground.
Mei’s CC is some of the best in the game. why would it only affect translocator? That seems like a very contrived and powerful ability considering that Sombra does not always have translocator and has little combat damage or sustain to counter with
That’s not really correct as it’s not just his wall ride. He loses every ability except his primary fire gun.
It’s the largest amount of ability loss of all the characters she hacks.
I could care less that the Lucio players have to stay grounded for a few seconds - that’s not the issue.
