Are the devs REALLY going to rework Bastion?

When the devs have said “rework” before what has it turned out they meant?

A rework doesn’t seem necessary considering in the 3 4 years since Bastion’s 2017 rework they really have hardly tried to do anything to fix the hero after that.

It’s literally one tiny buff every year

2018: Slight buff to spread
2019: slight buff to self-repair
2020: slight buff to spread AND slight buff to self repair

And 2021 so far NOTHING except a bugfix.

A major rework seems necessary when you’ve tried loads of tweak and none of them work, they haven’t really tried that with Bastion in almost half a decade.

I think the “rework” could just be buffs.

If OW2 isn’t coming out until 2022 and nothing is happening with Bastion until OW2, does that mean Bastion will be essentially ignored for 5 years!?!?

Reworks usually suck

Well it’s not like he’ll be able to sit behind a shield anymore.

I’d assume they’ve tried other things with him behind the scenes. But even if they haven’t, the news article says “reworked from the ground up” so that sounds like a lot more than just number tweaks.

Definitely not “double-shield”.

Though that doesn’t mean anything, if it is just a numbers tweak you can’t say “ah ha! That’s not what from the group up means!”

The dictionary of idioms says it means “completely” so it COULD mean only number tweaks but all the numbers tweaked.

I mean, yeah, technically possible. But it’s far from the first rework and I doubt they’d use that wording on a numbers rework knowing that most are going to assume that’s meaning a full kit overhaul.

If memory serves, the tradition is to demote the ult to an E ability and then slap on a new ult. Maybe in this case they’ll go with swapping tank and turret configs. Sorry, OP.

What would that have to be to count as a full kit overhaul?

rework does not automatically mean “buff” but to review the rhythms of a character in a different way. is a “buff” related to his way of playing, not in numbers as we are used to see in the patch notes that “monitor” the meta in a cyclical manner.

It’s one thing to take Torb’s overload and move it from an ult to a cooldown ability.

It’s another thing to ALSO move his turret from a cooldown ability to be an ultimate

I would personally assume at minimum a Torbjorn style rework and prehaps even as drastic as what they did to Sym.

And yet that’s what they might settle on, because I can’t believe they’d chuck either form. Sorry.

Perhaps I’m being too pessimistic, though.

What would be analogous to Symm losing her lock on beam for more damage?

They’ve kinda already done that, Sentry gun used to be accurate and could headshot now it’s really inaccurate and can’t headshot.

They don’t have to, Bastion famously doesn’t have an E-ability.

By default that key is dead.

So they can just move Tank from Q to E and have Q do something else and Shift is still for toggling sentry/recon.

It looks like they are going in the direction of movement/flanking and larger areas with more cover.

I have a feeling that Bastion won’t have stationary abilities anymore.

Being stationary is less of a problem in larger areas, where you do NOT want to be stationary is in a maze of tight corridors as it’s so easy to move a bit and get out of line of sight and if you’re stationary then you can’t follow to regain line of sight.

Maybe you’ll be alright stationary but even the new maps are littered with sniper perches.

Snipers, the biggest balance issue of OW2

Snipers are only a problem for Bastion because Sentry’s spread is so unreasonably large and there’s no consequences for snipers taking damage. Snipers can’t headshot Sentry mode so they win by attrition just plugging bodyshots.

LOL no, they can probably later claim they meant for pve, which he will most likely be absolutely banging in.

I guess they could make both turret and tank abilities and give him some other ult, but I don’t think they’ll put that much effort into it. Maybe I’m being unduly cynical.

The problem is the ult could be activated at any time when Bastion is in Recon or Sentry and also Tank mode if tank was on E.

An ultimate doesn’t have to be VERY powerful, Tracer’s ult is just a 350 damage projectile with a very low velocity and long detonation delay. That’s only any good because of the synergy with Tracer’s kit.

A barrier-shield that just appears around Bastion (in any mode) as an ultimate could work with a low ult-charge and low barrier health of only 400HP or so. Because it would be a barrier used exactly when the Bastion player knows it would be most needed. Or maybe an orisa style ironclad with higher damage resistance.
