Are people just blind about team-comp context?

If their team has a zen and ana, and you have a mercy and lucio, your tank’s stat is gonna be abysmal low and will keep dying vs against their tank.

If their team dps has a mercy pocketing them, and your dps has none, naturally, their dps stat will be a lot higher than your dps stat.

If their tank has a shield, and your tank has none, the overall dps on your team will usually be lower, but their tank dps mitigation is a stat that no one bother to look at.

If you’re the one moving the payload all the way through each checkpoint while your teammates are pressing charge ahead, it’ll look like you contribute nothing because the objective time is not on the scoreboard - the most important stat.

So before you call out someone for not doing well, please look at the context, thank you.

Oh lord, don’t ask the kids of overwatch to engage in any kind of critical thinking, they’ll hurt themselves.

my mistake assuming everyone already know these basic stuffs, until someone said something only right when the match ended

um its not so black and white as that, its more a question of can a player adapt accordingly without needing to swap being the only solution.

I will elaborate using your examples.
If their team has a zen and ana, and you have a mercy and lucio, your tank’s stat is gonna be abysmal low and will keep dying vs against their tank.

Tank could easily adjust using off angles reducing the impact of Zen/ ana sight lines, baiting opposing tank to be out of position. furthermore depending on the tank used if your squaring off against opposing tank your doing it wrong from the start.

If their team dps has a mercy pocketing them, and your dps has none, naturally, their dps stat will be a lot higher than your dps stat.

This is not true, it just means your DPS is AFKing, missing damage opportunities. or has such bad positioning they are easy picks for the opposing side. claiming just because Mercy pocket is just an excuse. just like the complaints with Phamacy comp being op. but failing to notice the 76 on your team cant look up.

If their tank has a shield, and your tank has none, the overall dps on your team will usually be lower, but their tank dps mitigation is a stat that no one bother to look at.

again not true, this demonstrates the team just tunnel focused on the opposing tank, in also should not make your overall dps lower, as many intentionally unload on a shield to inflate the dps numbers. iirc only D.Vas def matrix out right cancels incoming fire.

If you’re the one moving the payload all the way through each checkpoint while your teammates are pressing charge ahead, it’ll look like you contribute nothing because the objective time is not on the scoreboard - the most important stat.

this is moot really, TBH I’ve been in this situation but never received flak for it but some times praise when the enemy has not noticed and I’ve moved it to the checkpoint same can be said for capture points also. if your on a hero not suited to it can always ping the cart or emote the team to be aware

so with the last one a bit of a grey area, there really isnt an excuse. but to be fair there is a chance the person complaining wont be coming from the same rationale as above and are just looking at stats, but you should take the opportunity to think about the criticisim and not fold to them but reflect on them and give less reasons for people to complain in the future.
or just turn off all coms and play in pure bliss.

I mean, this is the point, it’s not black and white. Mine are simply that - examples.
The main point is simply asking people to think more about context and should not take the stats at face value.
What’s the point of being toxic when you yourself don’t even know if the stats truly reflect who’s at fault?

yeah while I don’t know how the criticism in game came across, but like i was breaking down some could be justifiable. like its still not good to tear someone’s head off but at the same time low stats in a match can be fair critique and getting rolled as a tank simply blaming support comp isn’t a good reason. im trying to see things from both sides but at the same time not condoning toxic behavior

I’d take my chances with Mercy and Lucio just because the Mercy player is likely going to stay alive, heal the most and get off some clutch rezzes. Until they nerf or rework that busted character I always want a Mercy on my team.
