I’ve suspected for a while now that with the current matchmaker your own performance matters less than the whims of the matchmaker. I just had a 7 match win streak where I had the worst stats in every game and when I watch the replays back I did absolutely nothing to help the team in the majority of them. All solo queue. I won because the matchmaker decided to put me on a win streak and it had absolutely nothing to do with how I played.
If you’re with a group, doesn’t it have to balance around the group, instead of just one player?
idk how that works
I play mystery hero.
How did the matchmaker know your team was going to do their best to cover for your lack of contribution?
That’s also very true.
“Is the game predetermined because I played bad in some games and good in others?”
IDK, did you… try… in the first set?
If I had to guess I would say they put me on teams that were much better than me or our opponents.
Ehh… That’s called SBMM. EOMM? Whatever the heck it is. Not saying matches are predetermined but system definitely did cover up for the guy if he did bad on all those matches.
I try all the time. I just suck at the game and always do poorly.
I’m pretty sure there’s something more to it than that
Yes most of the time by you or others whoever looks at scoreboard and gives up first predetermined the outcome.
Sometimes you get gm tank doomfist that carries everything while enemy team gets a dps or support on gm or two of those in masters.
Gm doomfist is superior to any gm or multiple masters in other roles.
Ofcourse the matchmaker doesn’t know that but it’s predetermining a huge course of outcome.
it still cannot MAKE them play better or worse. So at very worse it put you in a match you were likely to win, but it cannot guarantee it.
This is yet another thing that gets discussed to death here.
You wanna think you aren’t at fault for your win or loss that’s your bag. Objectively question though how or why other people can make it work when they put in practice. What reason is there to make you win or lose?
I also solo queue, and while I don’t think matches are pre-determined, I do think the matchmaking is iffy enough that it isn’t unusual to be thrown into matches that are very hard to lose, as well as matches that are basically unwinnable. But I also see a lot of matches that can go either way - usually to whichever team adapts best.
But that’s mostly due to random assortments of players that do all the loopy things players do. Like in a recent comp game I had, I feel pretty comfortable that the matchmaker had no idea the enemy kiriko would spend the match flaming her teammates in match chat and triggering several departures.
If you later get a loss streak, will the matchmaker have turned on you and if so, why? What does one do to incur its favor or wrath?
Are you sure you aren’t selling yourself short? You may not have done anything incredible, but there is still a lot to be said for baseline competence. It may not get play of the game, but basically doing the stuff that needs doing still counts for a lot.
Overwatch matches may seem one-sided skillwise, but sometimes it’s also difference in willingness to try. If one of the teams doesn’t get any playmakers, they become too passive to win. There are good players who are comfortable following someone, but if team is not doing anything productive all their skills go to waste.
Losing multiple matches in a row while having terrible stats makes sense to me.
They definitely feel that way when we all step out, get obliterated in 10 seconds upon meeting the enemy team, get pushed all the way to the spawn and locked in there for 3 minutes and lose without ever touching the point.
Playing with friends doesn’t work for me. I encounter stacks all the time who utterly stomp me and my team of solo q, but when playing in a stack or with other people, it feels like the game purposely pits us against more skilled players than I would ever encounter solo (even when my friends are at the same skill level as me or lower) and I get stomped even MORE than usual.
Your matches become pre-determined as soon as you stop being variable on your own.
The matches are, their outcomes are not.
If overwatch devs somehow created a computer system that can read/alter reality to make pre-determined matches, I think we have bigger concerns then a videogames
They’re predetermined when you decide you can’t win
Yup. Through a combination of voodoo, witchcraft, and advanced AI, Blizzard is capable of accurately predicting the outcome of any given game. They use this power solely to make the experience miserable for their players because that’s how companies make money.
