Applying Update Bug

Tried to load into competitive match. Stuck on applying update screen until game disconnected. Had to restart game and then loaded back in to find myself with lost sr and a ban because I was kicked as game started so the match shutdown and I was unable to rejoin.

(Edit) - now realizing that this was probably attributed to the experimental card match I played before this, as others are sharing similar things. Also, I’m on Xbox Series X.

Edit 2- received a generic response to my ticket with customer service linking me to an article about crashes in regard to my system, when it’s the patch itself that’s causing them smh. Really hoped blizzard would treat their community better but it looks like we’re all going to be stuck with out lost stars and endorsement levels

Same here. I played one match on the new Experimental Card, had no problems. Went to do a comp match and got stuck on applying update as well, never loaded, got an error message with a QR code that’s for PC (I’m on PS4, so uhhhhh…) and now I have a 15 minute ban as well and I am guessing massive SR loss. Awesome. Thank god I queued for an off-role instead of ruining my main SR I guess?

Also here. I played 2 Experimental matches before getting bored. Queued for competitive and got the same applying patch followed by a large SR drop and 15 minute ban.

Edit. That’s all I’m getting now. Can’t play anything but Experimental because of this bug…
Exited the program and tried again. Works fine if you close the whole program

Same thing here. Experimental game then error trying to play comp. Closed game and tried again, but same thing. Now I’m banned for a full hour on top of lost SR. Amazing job Blizzard.

Awesome, I’m now completely locked out of the game by this failure to apply update. When I tried to open a support ticket, they blamed me for being a leaver and closed my ticket. Unbelievable.

Ive had this on ps4. 100 sr gone and 1hour ban. Error HF-5

I put a second ticket with the new information you guys have all replied with, a link to this forum post, and screenshots of the errors so they know it isn’t just us “leaving games.” Hopefully this time it will be taken seriously…

You can find the support page here. It is a bit of a pain to navigate to actually get a ticket in, so I suggest choosing “other” under “account.”

Same like how bout instead of doing all this fancy stuff with this old game you actually finish the one you’ve been announcing and showcasing for years!

I have lost 2 competitive matches due to the same error on Xbox.
I tried to play an Experimental match before which has caused this.
I continue to get “Error Applying Update” Unknown Error (HF-5).
This needs to be patched and damage to customers accounts should be restored which includes in-game competitive points as well as reputation.

Unfortunately they’ve said time and again that they won’t fix SR losses, even if it is their fault. But you could try to use the “appeal decision” under an account support ticket.

Switch, same story. Played experimental on Practice Range, now I can’t play any other games without crashing.

Same issue here and also on Xbox Series X.
As above in a reply players will lost SR due to this error should be reimbursed along with any players losing reputation level due to a forced leave of match.

Same issue.
Thankfully, I don’t play competitive anymore, so I didn’t “lost” anything, but I can’t even play quick play now.

The exact same thing just happened to me. Same Console and everything. I better not be losing SR to this Bug. :rage::rage::rage:

I’m on the same boat. The sad part is that even after restarting the whole game, the game bugged after looking for comp game. Stayed on main screen with the “join match” option. The match never started and I got another penalty :woozy_face:

I’m on PS4 and the same just happened to me. I played a few games of Experimental, then I noticed the card for it was gone from the menu. Tried to play quickplay, got to ‘applying update’, game crashed after a while, happened twice in a row so I’ll stop now, guess it’s a widespread issue…
