Just saw this, not sure what to think but it’s interesting to say the least, apparently pulling out of China really peeved off a LOT of players there, and Steam gave them the opportunity to really stick it to Blizzard:
Does it even matter? There is significant amount of other negative reviews and hardly any positive ones that aren’t just trolling.
Also I love the hypocrisy when people bring china views numbers when defending OWL as a success but them brushing them off as invalid when it doesn’t work in their favor.
Just gives a different perspective is all, lots of people running with narratives and their own motivational biases about what the review bomb means but looks like there’s more to it than meets the eye, which I just thought was interesting, though as you say nevertheless it’s just one part of an overall negative trend for Blizzard.
As for OWL, I thought that was shutting down or something wasn’t it? Haven’t really heard or seen anyone defending it, just looked like it was quietly on its way out.
Well yes, it gives context as to why the game is currently rated as the worst game of all time on Steam when it obviously & objectively isn’t. The game is being review bombed, so its current approval rating isn’t actually representative of how good the game is or how many people like it.
Let me summarize you in this way.
People from all around the world are very upset with how Overwatch 2 was launched and continued. It just happened that Chinese people are more in general, and Chinese people lost a century worth of blizzard progress.
But, if you remove the Chinese reviews and keep all other languages, it is still around 50k reviews with 90% of them being negative, and almost all positives being troll reviews.
So, even if Chinese reviews didn’t exist, like even 1 review, the game would still have overwhelmingly negative score, and still would be the lowest on steam.
To say a lot of Chinese players are upset, is true.
To say that low score is because of Chinese players, is not true.
Why is no one review bombing Baldurs gate 3 ?
If a game getting backlash, there is probably a good reason for it.
Funny you should say that.
Baldurs Gate 3 actually was review bombed when it was in Early Access. Not because the game was bad, but because the price was still $60 and wasn’t a complete game yet.
Therefore because it was bad.
Same thing here.
Lol. I think you’d have a hard time finding many people who would say Baldurs Gate 3 is bad. It being review bombed simply due to Early Access price being the same as it is now at launch does not make it bad or deserving of a review bomb
You asked, and you received.
You said it yourself: it didn’t meet expectations vs price… just like OW2…
Don’t agree with this point, agree with the rest. Most negative reviews are 100x more troll than most positive reviews are.
Factually speaking, most of the positive reviews are troll reviews.
I think most ow players would agree that they still enjoy playing the game, for the gameplay, the combat etc. But people hate the monetization, and rightfully so. I haven’t looked at the reviews very much, but assume most negative ones have to do with their hate for blizz as a company, and their prices. Not overwatch as a whole.
They didn’t just pull out.
They left with no backup data. All their stuff is gone forever. And not just in Overwatch.
Decades old accounts for world of Warcraft etc. all gone.
Damn right they are annoyed.
Net ease promised to find another partner, and recover all the date on behalf, but I don’t know how is it going to be possible.
You either misunderstand or you’re intentionally missing the point…
You asked why no one review bombed Baldur’s Gate 3, but it actually was, and for a stupid reason unrelated to the quality of the game. OW2 isn’t the first game to be review bombed, and it won’t be the last. The 9% rating on Steam is not at all representative of how good the game is.
I strongly disagree. Most positive reviews are just positive reviews and actually discuss the game, whereas most negative reviews aren’t even discussing the game.
Like the ““most helpful”” review in the past day is literally a cooking recipe
There are 2 billion people in China and compared to other countries there are many gamers in them. Of course there will be more reviews coming from China
It is still a form of criticism. I think a lot of people just got tired of trying to reach out for blizzard. Because otherwise, we have to claim that blizzard somehow magically gathered all the trolls in the world, that ruin the game just for nothing.
Is the community overreacting by making it the worst game rated? Yes.
Is all negative criticism overreacting? Probably no .
The issue isn’t the fact that they’re leaving negative reviews. The issue is that they’re not leaving any real feedback. And almost every negative review isn’t leaving anything constructive.
