Both hit Tuesday, I’m excited for both, but I can’t lie, the Apex rework looks absolutely incredible and will surely draw in more players than OW. I wish OW would take some inspiration from what they’re doing…I want to see OW make some dramatic changes or at least try them.
Apex is going to have this new leveling system similar to a moba. You start at lvl 1 with lvl 1 shields. Shields are not longer on the field so you can’t pick them up you just have to level up and you do that by getting kills, reviving team mates, providing utility etc. There are 4 levels and each level you get to pick between 2 perks that enhance your abilities. Big win for Apex as it puts more emphasis on getting kills so the game becomes less of a run around looting/hiding game, and more brawly fun like it used to be.
I’ve always wanted to see a progression system like this in OW where you can level up your hero throughout the match if you perform well. The game could benefit form it now more than ever with rock paper scissors counterwatch tanking. Would be cool if you could build resistances to counters from performing well. Paladins does something like that.
OW is just not the game for that. The main point is that you can switch during the match and adapt to your opponent. Your skill is not defined how well you play a hero and rather how well you play a ROLE (ignoring onetricks).
Its nice that Apex does Apex things, but Apex and OW function totally different.
Doesn’t mean that can’t change. It was great in OW1 but honestly counter swapping is awful in OW2. It just makes tanking miserable for everyone. When multiple people decide to counter swap the tank at every moment, they can’t do anything but absorb all the cooldowns, die, and hope their team capitalize on a team wasting everything on one person.
Doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s always enough to make a tank shut the game down and question why they even play the role.
So, I’d personally love to see overwatch try something very different to actually make it feel like a sequel. Draft pick, bans, locked into one hero the whole match and hero builds. I’d love to see it.
Hey I actually suggested a system were you could add perks to you character on spawn, in order to mitigate negative countering effects from enemy team’s composition. All at expense of your ultimate charge, as you trade its points like a form of currency
Mostly for Tanks. To help them soak hard counters a bit more and not yell at them for not insta swap
Play paladins then. They got everything you want. The thing you seem to want, does not fit into OW. Maybe some soft core bans, but even that is kind of bad for a game AROUND counterswitching.
Wow, someone that doesn’t play tank that doesn’t hate them and think they deserve to be counter stacked 24/7. That’s very rare on these forums. PUFF PUFFsensored

Running around looting gets really boring, which is one reason I’m so excited for the update cause Apex used to be the most active br out there and it’s going back to that, rewarding players more for kills.
For the past several seasons, ranked has been everyone running around looting hiding, and then one massive fight at the end. It sucked. The game is much more enjoyable when those fights are spread out throughout the match and that only happens when they reward you for early game kills.
The core of Apex gameplay though is really incredible. One of the best fps games ever made.
