Not invalid at all. I immediately saw what they did to it. Waited on it, watched a few scenes and absolutely did NOT want to ruin my memories of a great series.
Also BTW all white people aren’t light skinned. We aren’t all the same.

“white” is not an ethnicity. Germanic is an ethnicity for example.
I don’t believe I said it was. It was a fairly short statement, mind pointing that part out?
Not really. Also, being simplistic with 3k years. It’s actually only been 2000 years since Manetheren fell. Now. We can assume an average of 3 generations in a century, So 60 generations have passed. That’s not significant on a genetics level.
Also, again, if you want realism there shouldn’t be any caucasian or light hair and eyes left.
Reread, neither I, nor Robert Jordan ever said “All two rivers people are dark skinned and dark eyed.” It was Dark HAIRED and Dark Eyed. Mat fits. Further, that fits with genetics, because given time Dark Hair and eyes will overrun and eliminate light. But Skin Tone is trickier and will vary all over the place.
#1: They were, the vast majority were dark haired and eyed. #2: Even in a place where most are X, there will be exceptions. The book has Short Aiel, brown eyed Aiel, Dark Haired Aiel. Just because the generic Aiel is 6’+ pale skinned redhead with blue eyes (in the desert…) doesn’t mean they all are.
Bait or do you genuinely disagree with the scientific and medical communities? Or did I misunderstand?
I don’t care to discuss anything further with you. PixelKitsune shut down your misinformed opinions on WOT period.
So I see. If we just ignore ALL evidence, refuse to respond to it, then hold our noses in the air and ignore it, that means we’re right?
Gotcha. Also… Why is Mat white again? And all those people in the Winespring? Cause again… the two rivers folks where supposed to be ALL dark skinned/haired/eyed. Rand is fair skinned. They fact that it was notably lighter than the Two Rivers people rather says they were at least “darker” than that no?
.
At least be consistent.
Oh and while we’re at it… why the flippin heck was Perrin married again? And you wonder why I didn’t watch it…
you call it representation, it’s not. this is a hero based fps and everything that doesnt add to that is just there for appeal. blizz doesnt have a stance when it comes to politics unless its good for their business. look at their company history, lots of outrage and scandals which dont aline with current mainstream politics. grow up and face reality.
Scientific and medical communities that are paid for the results the person paying wants? Or the scientific and medical communities that say it is a mental disorder? Or the ones that have said it’s a mental disorder, only to be canceled by cancel culture? i.e. losing funding/grants/etc… Bullying your way to desired results to appease the masses isn’t “science”, it’s bribery.
Imo, if it fits naturally into their character, their motives, and or gameplay, then sure, I have no objections.
Soldier and tracer are gay… or bi I guess, but they’re not always in your face about it. They are gameplay characters first, and political statements last.
I was always of the opinion that if the most important thing about your character is their sexuality, your character is suited better for adult films than traditional media. A characters goals, motivations, stuggles should matter more than what attributes about themselves they can’t change.
Blizzard doesn’t go for the low hanging fruit, they don’t pander, or at least haven’t up until this point. I think they do a good job in this particular area.
Because skin color was not a defining trait of two rivers folk. Only hair and eye color. As for consistency, again, did you take issue with Joran having Aiel that weren’t tall pale redheads?
That actually has a completely solid explanation. The show had the characters live a year or two more in the Two Rivers before the plot starts so they weren’t 17-18 year olds suddenly out in the world. Perrin’s Wife is a character who shows up in Book 4 whom Perrin specifically thinks that he would have married her if he had stayed in the Two Rivers longer.
As for why her. Because it gives weight to Perrin’s later issues with Faile, why he’s so terrified of losing someone and so protective over someone. It also gives more weight to his fear of the wolf nature, since he’ll incorrectly blame it for his actions in episode 1.
No thanks. Let’s keep politics out of gaming.
Knowing Blizzard, it’d be half-assed and just crowbarred in. They’d then pat themselves on the back, somehow think this is community giving praise and then treat the transgenderism as if it’s some sort of super power, completely trivialising the character and who they are.
Really? List them then…
List from where? Assuming Overwatch since we’re here. Every non omnic character save Tracer and Soldier 76.
The thing here is that cisgender straight is the assumed norm by our society. People aren’t hurt, marginalized, diminished or threatened by the system or by legislature for being cisgender or straight.
Okay. Also. Why change the ages? The last thing I want out of an adaption is CHANGES. All I see is change change change. I just want a faithful adaption.
Again Jordan mentions skin color many times in the series to denote differences. Tuon for example, Semirhage, the Sea Folk, the Aiel, the Domani. The ultimate META truth of it was RJ was a white dude, and didn’t think to denote what he considers an average white person skin tone as remarkable enough to mention. It’s was just his unconscious bias. When you cut through all the BS that’s the truth.
Again though, I don’t care if you make the Two Rivers people all tanned white folks, hispanic, indian, arabic or whatever you want, just make them consistent. You don’t get a village of people with the same eye and hair color without them also having similar skin tone lol. What you think blondes just never got laid or something?
and there are no heroes with down syndrome or other disabilities.
it’s always only the would-be women/men croaking that they won’t represent enough…you play a game to escape from reality…and to be honest, it doesn’t matter when i turn on the tv or open the newspaper… the first thing you see is a woman with a beard, a man in a dress or something similar…plus the gender in any form…sometimes it’s enough
You can do that and also add a trans character
The first two Harry Potters were faith adaptations, they were junk compared the rest. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is considered a masterpiece and changed multiple things throughout. Pure adaptations don’t work. Like it or not.
You just mentioned the only exceptions. And again, there were exceptions in the books to the norms in all of them.
You absolutely can, look at any major US city today. 60 generations is not a lot of time. Also, Blondes procreating with anything not blonde is going to give you not blonde almost all the time.
Funny enough, that’s not how Ana is actually portrayed. She’s shown as not being particularly off put by her hardships, but more the weight of the lives she’s taken. She’s proud of Pharah and rather than having sadness at seeing her living the same kind of life is proud of her and regrets that she tried to keep her away from Overwatch. Going so far as to actively encourage her to join the reborn Overwatch and operate under Cassidy’s leadership.
it just really continues to show how shallow OVW is. Apex doesn’t tout its diversity as the main selling point in the game- you kinda get dropped into it after you’re already in. And Tress’ handling in her initial trailer was amazing for a company.
Overwatch though? Marketing is based off ‘the world needs more heroes’, people from every walk of life, etc etc. Diversity is a purposeful selling point, and in 2022 they have not made any further steps to better the actions they were taking 6 years ago in 2016 while the landscape around it improved. It’s showing as pathetic, esp from a company who sooo desperately wants the gays (speaking as a gay) to love it.
In fact they’ve actually taken away representation they used to tout- writers used to be vocal and proud that Bastion only uses it pronouns- but if you look at all the marketing and ‘fixes’ done in OVW2, bastion has become entirely gendered. Haven’t bothered to add a single trans or non-binary individual, let alone actual human.
It leaves a sour taste in the mouth to do that while they continue to spout the importance of their variety in their hero roster. We won’t even get into the orientalism and other racism lol.
