Anyone's game crashing a lot?

I’ve tried updating my graphics drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers, uninstalling BNET and donwloading it again yet i’m constantly just getting crashes as soon as I load up OW.

On an MSI 4070 Ti Super, so is it a problem with the current Nvidia drivers? Or am I the only one thats experiencing this? Sometimes it’ll let me load into the practice range and then i’ll get a crash message. I reverted all settings in my BIOS so my CPU and GPU is running at stock settings, but it still won’t let me load into the game

Only posting here because tech support channel is dead

“Rumor” on the internet there has been a string of bad driver updates that have gone out causing problems with nvidia hardware.

Only thing I can suggest is doing driver roll-backs and looking what there is on the nvidia archive for past drivers.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had to do this before with this game.

IMO its too bad we have LPs in Quickplay because sometimes there are strings of bad windows updates and driver updates that cause random Memory leaks, faults in the operating system. thus leading to random crashes.

I can remember this was a thing for awhile with 2017 Overwatch :stuck_out_tongue: .

which driver version are you on and is it stable?

Im running 551.23 on an RTX 2060.

Very stable IMO, except a few little bits here or there. but nothing like how bad the GTX 10 series drivers were. Which were extremely flakey.

You should have started by telling what exactly the error is.

If it says GPU device lost or something, the problem is most often the video driver.

i figured it out but it was kinda weird. it wasn’t even my gpu that was an issue, even though all the errors were pointing to it

when i plugged another spare gpu into my build, it was still crashing, so i reseated the cmos battery and it reset the “low latency” and “high bandwidth” settings for my RAM, which i don’t even remember turning on

and yeah game was crashing every time i loaded in before even with updated graphics drivers, but after those two settings were reverted, i hopped into game and all of a sudden no crashes (yet) :grinning::+1:. i’m not 100% sure that was the issue but it looks to be a reasonable explanation for the crashing

Funny enough that use to be on the #1 list of repair for me replacing that battery on boards, when there was an issue :stuck_out_tongue:

#2 was plug a power tester into the power rail that was running the GPU. and a new plug into the current GPU. and then turning on a Game. If the power supply was bad the 5.5v would sag heavily and we could determine the power supply was bad.

#3 was heatsinks no longer making contact with the CPU. So the CPU would go into thermal safety shutdown.

#4 An ethernet pin not making a solid connection. Due to a bend inside of the socket.

#5 the case of the “random disconnection”. Caused by a computer chair rolling over an ethernet cable and breaking one wire.

#6 Funniest one. “The GPU isn’t working” - Investigating the person was not plugging their monitor into the Graphics card, but the onboard video output. :stuck_out_tongue:

#7. Person with no knowledge building a computer. screws motherboard directly to to the case, skips all stand-offs. (also had ones where the standoff was not lined up with the screw hole, and shorted the board out).

When your game crashes, does the whole desktop crashes and you have to reboot your computer? This happens to me previously, and when the crashes happened I just lost my GPU while I can still hear the sound. This turned out to be a power supply issue and the graphics card didn’t get enough power supply when there’s a graphics-heavy task.

My solution to my specific issue was just to reconnect my PCIe cable to alternative interfaces coming out of the PSU.

To find a cause for your specific case, next time the crashing happens, remember your crashing time, and check out the error message generated by “Event Viewer → Administrative Events”. This will give you some (but limited) info about what might be the cause.

nothing crashes like a blizzard game
