Anyone still bother with pinging enemies?

It’s not like there’s ever any point using ping, right?

I’ve literally never seen anyone react to my pings. I ping a Tracer on our flank multiple times as she peeks out, seconds later our Widowmaker dies to her anyway still scoped in and she continues on to some support.

Pretty sure the audio gets lost and nobody seems to even know the system exist. As usual giving your teammates information or opportunities is worthless and you have to do everything yourself.

I ping so much when playing support… But I am usually killed by said ping and my team carry on as normal and then complain about no heals

I think it definitely scales with rank. Lower ranked people probably don’t really know what to do with the information while higher ranked people can make plays with the information.

Also playing with friends and stuff, pings help a lot. Most of the playerbase knows like 3 place names that aren’t point or highground. Adding that ping to “Let’s kill that cass over there” gives people an idea where “there” is.

My diamond support experience is that it’s about 50-50 if people react. If I ping a sleep, there’ll usually be someone to burst them down. If I ping someone in our backline there’s about a 1/3 chance I’ll have someone on my team helping and they usually will do that for the entire match.

Pinging is useful for flankers, because you can call out your target to tell your team to draw attention away from that area. Otherwise, not really.

A good practice to get into is pinging your teammate’s pings.

It will auto-ping the “Understood” line back at them.

The confirmation goes a long way.

Yes, but I still dislike that it’s even a thing. Poor awareness should be punished.

playing zen I ping multiple times per fight. You should always ping a sniper so that your team can see their position, but otherwise its just a matter of recognising who is killable/has wasted their cooldowns/is out of position and getting everyone to click on them, then the next, then the next. Zen finds that easy, because its his job to track all of that stuff and he is usually in a position to see most of what’s going on. Pinging can be bad if its the wrong target priority. For example if they have a wincondition coming up, pinging mercy is pointless, she will fly away. Try to burst the genji or ana down through the healing and stop them getting their combo off, kinda thing. Sometimes in neutral phases, pinging enemies isn’t great either. It can cause people to commit to what they think is an easy opportunity, but might not be. Its better to pay attention and make accurate decisions rather than hard spam the ping 24/7. If you don’t know who is actually killable, and there isn’t an unscouted sniper that you just caught a whiff of, don’t ping. I think its better to wait and react to opponents misplaying

I use it often as a support. For tank & dmg i don’t use it much.

Can’t speak, so yes; pinging is pretty much the only way to convey information.

Ping is a really great tool that, just like Replays, came way too late to the game.
Ping in CoD games is really useful but in OW ? Nah, its too complex. People have too many things going on to pay attention to that. Specially when 2-3 dudes are pinging at the same time.

Just like VC, its an amazing tools for call outs, but people straight up don’t pay attention or just dont care so yeah, when you realize that people dont really pay attention, you stop pinging and making call outs.

The ping system in this game is awful and needs major work.

  • audio of ping gets covered by other audio
  • there are a billion markers in the game as it is because apparently i need to see on the map where someone has said “no” or “thank you”.
  • it doesn’t ping the thing you want to
  • it says the wrong thing when i want to ping the objective.

I ping whoever I have on Discord so people know the shoot the one with the big purple orb on them.

Tracer/Sombra players.

ENEMY O–ENEMY OVE RHERE HERE HERE ENEMY OVER HERE THERE

Ping spammed on cooldown.

I think the big purple orb itself should let team-mates know target this dude/dudette and make them miserable.

Do Zen say anything special when a ping is placed upon discord player?.

Ping is one of the best tools they’ve implemented. I always use it. And always find teams who do as well. I can’t imagine going back to when we never had it.

No, but he prioritizes the enemy with Discord when he Pings.
Also it helps teammates actually look at the one who’s Discorded.

I’ve started using the ping tool quite a lot, and my team responds almost 50% of the time. I also keep an eye out for my team’s pings. I find it useful.

Yeah I do it all the time, within reason.

It’s pretty obvious that if players just start spamming it during every fight, then most will begin to ignore it.

I try to limit it to once, maybe twice, each team fight. I treat it as a tool to direct the team to which ever enemy is currently the highest threat, or point out a phara up above that no one may’ve noticed.

Ya it works mostly i play spotter as tracer when we have the point and defending so if I ping the route they take it helps my tank setup.

This is one of the few times ping works well.

For flankers it’s generally 50-50 sometimes people listen, other times anamaker is still duelling enemy widow and lifeweaver is doing whatever he does playing with petals and flowers.

Pinging widowmaker is one of the most important things. And now even more so as you will see the range to see if youre within the one shot range or not (53m or less)
