Anyone else think the new art is bad?

I’m talking about the little hero faces when selecting a hero. It looks weird and doesn’t fit the older art style. Normally I would suggest redrawing all the faces in the new style… but it’s just so bad. Tracer looks like she has an Instagram filter on and Mercy looks like an anime drawing instead of a 3D model.

Its not bad.

But I don’t pay too much attention to it.

I’m hoping some of them are placeholders. Take Mercy’s one. She looks like a Nintendo Mii character in the select screen.

They are just place holders.

Didnt they say that current ui is a plceholder?

You believe that? They already have hero portrait art from OW1. It sounds more like they made horrible art, got bad feedback, then backpedaled and called the bad art placeholders.

No, no, no. Why would they use Overwatch 1 art as a placeholder when THIS is Overwatch 2? We need unique placeholder art for the sequel, fam.

I think most of ones with new looks already revealed are using concept art as placeholders until they get everyone, at which point they’ll all swap over to 3D rendered new looks. Kinda weird they didn’t just keep using the old ones.

Though its weird how some aren’t, like Bastion and Reaper.

Sojourns is weirdest; its her icon from the Recall short. It doesn’t even line up quite right with her modern look, which has less metal bits than the icon.

Yeah? Does everything that we saw look like product of 4 years in making?

It all looks like it was made in 1 hour time

why would they finalize small things like hero icons when designs aren’t even final yet? smh

I think the older selection screen is 100x better than that doo doo lol

IKR and her face looks kinda squished and odd looking

The old portraits represent the characters kinda poorly, and the style reminds me of those super edgy American comics from the 1990s, like Spawn.

Some of the designs were already outdated in OW1. Cassidy looked so much like Clint Eastwood that the man could have probably sued Blizzard. He looked different in the game, and has been further updated since.

Mei had a fat face, as in Sumo wrestler fat, but Blizzard chickened out at the last moment and gave her an “anime” style makeover, likely anticipating backlash from Chinese players.
