To be honest it was cool at first to see the game get a league but overtime I feel the money going into it only supports the 1% and not the 99% of the community, not to say you cant have a league, it’s just I think it was over compensated. Instead I’d put that money into New Events gamemodes, more skin drops then 4-5, Hero Reworks (Ah-hem Bastion) More Comp Updates, The list goes on. Going big can sometimes send you home which I feel the league has done for the other 99% of the community.
even worse that game balancement is taken by OWL data.
like how terrible ban system is
OWL should die before OW2 happen.
Sinatraa had his salary leaked at $150,000.00 a year. That’s just one player and one of the highest paid players. Now think about every other OWL player, the managers, the tech, all crew members, etc. That’s a good chunk of change that could’ve improved the game.
What do we have instead? The same old events recycled year after year. Dead lore. A new skin every few months. Painfully slow game patches. Zzzzzzz.
What?! That’s fricken insane I knew it was alot but that much?!!
i agree it really has zero relevance to the ladder in the game. they have their own meta because they practice so much and know where hacks and walls are going to be
i dont think it makes a very good spectator game either
Surely you realize that Blizzard doesn’t pay the players, managers or anything team related right?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who does?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The team owner, whether it be a person or corporation.
It most certainly has not been a good investment.
First and foremost, you can’t force an eSport like Blizzard did. You have to let it grow naturally. They simply saw everyone else doing it and said “Yeah, let’s do that.”
Second, never let the so called pros be the deciding factor on how you balance the game. You’re the game developer, not them. The pros will always have bias, like everyone else, towards who they play and who they hate playing against. Yes, feedback is important, but only if you’re taking into account the feedback from all players.
Third, with how much money they pay the players and the money they spend of all the stuff to make it happen, imagine if they had instead used that on their game. Hell, maybe they could’ve paid their employees and wouldn’t have had to fire so many.
Overall the OWL has been a dumpster fire that has only hurt the game.
I agree 100% it just pisses me off to see them waste and try to force a esport then let it grow, kinda have a feeling the game would be a lot better if they never did it the way they did
I feel like people in this thread have zero idea of how the League operates but are nonetheless still happy to talk about why it’s bad.
You don’t have to like OWL, but at least do some research before spouting out nonsense.
Then how does it work? Are you telling me blizzard has a league for free? If that’s the case were do I sign up for a free league??
Blizzard does not pay any costs the team themselves incur, whether they be travel, player, staff or equipment expenses. Players like Sinatraa (150k), Seagull (200k) and Decay (300k) are/were paid by their teams, Blizzard does not pay them anything.
Then where’s the money coming from? Sponsors? It’s hard to believe it’s all coming from sponsors… like I’m sure it help
Venture capital and investment firms throwing money at the dumpster fire.
OWL is an investor FOMO bubble based on the idea of selling colors and branding to sheeple.
Ah, then… wonder how long till they pull out.
The ignorance in this thread of how the OWL works is matched only by an ignorance of competitive level play.
The OWL has been a considerable factor in prolonging the lifespan of the game in spite of all the issues it has been facing.
Shooters that have no competitive scene rarely see millions of daily online users for more than a year or two. By comparison, people have been playing counter-strike in one iteration or another for nearly 20 years.
…never let the so called pros be the deciding factor on how you balance the game. You’re the game developer, not them. The pros will always have bias, like everyone else, towards who they play and who they hate playing against. Yes, feedback is important, but only if you’re taking into account the feedback from all players.
Top-down balancing has been shown time and again to be the only reliable way to balance multiplayer games. Of course pro players have bias, but why would it be better to prefer the alternative: players who have bias AND don’t actually understand how the game works?
OWL works much the same way as any other sport/esport league does in regards to finance. It really isn’t anything complex if you have a basic understanding of this.
A pro scene is necessary, but Blizzard strangled the entire competitive scene to death so they can install a puppet in it’s place that they could control, milk for money, and sell off to gullible investors. One need only look at T2 pro play and how dead it is, especially compared to the old days where OGN Apex was the height of competitive OW.
Don’t confuse the manufactured dumpster fire that is OWL with the grassroots scenes of CS or Siege.
This. Especially because balancing for solo queue would likely destroy any semblance of balance the game had. Like, how do you balance a 6v6 game where you have to play with your team for most of the game for people who
Might not be in vc
Are one-tricks
Don’t know how team comps work
Don’t know what counters are
How do you balance around that? How could you even TRY to balance around that?
Now I will say, the dev team needs to add CLANS to the game. If everyone (or the vast majority at least) was in a group and played, and we saw stats from that, then MAYBE balance around mid ranks and high ranks would make some sense… but as long as most people solo queue, I’d rather the game be balanced around 100 pro players than anyone else.
