I feel this cinematic is the worst one of them all because I don’t get any kind of emotion behind it, its just another little show really, unlike the last bastion, dragons, the rien cinematic, mei, etc all of those I would nearly tear up because of all the emotion behind them. this one was meh

There was no emotional resonance here I agree, I felt like the connection between hana and her friend wasn’t there at all. Like he didn’t tear up or even hug her once after the incident where she almost nearly died. Anyway it just felt hollow. Like their relationship with eachother is so distant i cant tell if they even like eachother.

it was very meh, nearly a year of waiting for this and we don’t even get any extra lore not even how she joined OW just a kinda JUST ANOTHER DAY THING and nothing special about it really

agreed, i mean people are saying its free so we shouldn’t complain but doesn’t mean cant have an opinion and in my opinion it wasn’t good and i love dva too thats why its even more disappointing.
I just genuinely think there was no story. There was nothing there.
I genuinely raised an eyebrow when he said how many people were working on this. From the animation, rendering and texturing phase then I can understand but the others working on storytelling and dialogue made it feel lacklustre.
It really is the absolute worst of them all.
But hey, the D.va fans are happy that their plugsuit, short Asian, “kawaii desu”, young gamer bait got a short.
Which means that it has “amazing and flawless story teling, and D.va is such a strong and unique character, and anyone who says otherwise is ungrateful.”
But what am I saying? Blizzard is a “smol indie company” and making complex characters while adding to the story is really hard.
The only feelings this new short invoked in me was the strong desire to go back and watch The Last Bastion and Honor and Glory for the umpteenth times.

Fan fiction gives her better lore than that short did lmao…it was still pleasing to watch though, amazing animation still. Really wish they’d progress the story

yeah watching this with a =.= kinda face just made me think to the TRUE best shorts like last bastion where they are able to put in SO MUCH EMOTION on a HATED CHARACTER without even having 1 line of actual dialogue, the best shorts are for sure last bastion, honor and glory, and Dragons those are the best 3 for sure GREAT emotion GREAT story, and even giving some lore while this one lacked that in all departments

Maybe it’s just me but I actually really liked it. Yes I’m a D.Va main so I have been waiting for something like this for a long time but I don’t dislike it as much as others.
The short for me told me a few things. In the game you don’t see some of the qualities that you see in the short. She doesn’t care about her fame and she puts a huge weight on her shoulders when it comes to making sure her home and her friends in MEKA don’t die. She also has ptsd clearly from seeing other pilots killed.
Another thing which I found interesting was that her self-destruct wasn’t a planned thing at the start. She didn’t go “nerf this” and be done with it, it was actually something that needed to be done manually by another person and then D.Va had to finish it off. In the same event, D.Va almost died just to simply make sure the omnic didn’t reach the city.
Again maybe it’s just me but I appreciate the little things and the details that the short offers and I do feel like this adds something to not D.Va but Hana Song.

It wouldn’t be as disappointing if there had been more interim content or less of a wait. OWL can go do something lewd and euphemistic to itself, so waiting a year made me expect a lot more from a hyped up cinematic.
I wonder how is D.Va the single and only line of defence of that city though…
Not really? Dva is my favourite character, though certainly not for those reasons you mentioned, and I’m completely disappointed by it; it does her an absolute disservice.

I think maybe they should have shown her early career as a mecha pilot. Shown her not taking it 100% serious, do it for the views (was she even streaming in this one at all?). And then show how she loses people (maybe it’s not her fault, maybe it’s a new model enemy), show her ptsd, show that she learns that th kishin aren’t some easy prey.
