Stadium itself sounds like it will be tons of fun, but I just can’t shake that only 14 heroes will exist when it starts. I’m worried it won’t take off and blizzard will abandon it for the wrong reasons.
So, it should have 16?
I think it’s fine for the start. More will be added later, and having new heroes with new stuff to explore will make the mode stay exiting.
It should be a concern for the devs. Because it’s really the same cast you’d expect. And personally I’m excited but none of the heroes I really love will be in it. Hopefully it doesn’t take them several years to put them all in…. But it probably will. So their is a chance it’s dead on arrival because 28 mains don’t get to use their favorite heroes in it.
I would be have to play it to decide if I want to commit to the mode.
Frome what I watched on streams it looked more like a moba. Didn’t look fun to me and I played enough mobas in my younger days.
That’s just my first impression.
Maybe Stadium will shock me and I get addicted.
But I reserve my judgement until I play.
I didnt consider that…
One thing that limited my Classic gametime was the limited characters. Its hard to forget about Juno, Illari and Mauga…
Right? Only being able to use a third of the cast could very well be a death knell.
its cool that it will be a different mode by itself. i have to play it too see if its fun or not, sounds really intersting tho.
still yea i wonder if the reception is bad if it will fade away and would kinda be messed up since wasted resources. could have made archive pve story missions or something
Yep. They need to add them all or all the excitement will die down. It’s like they only put in the heroes that most people play. No need to be careful with balancing in this mode, just let it fly…
Agreed, balancing can come second, first and foremost add everyone before interest wane.
Perks and Stadium appear to be the frameworks for how Blizz will manage balance in the game, and they’re already making tweaks to perks in the next patch.
So I actually think Blizz will keep its word on this one, because the future of the game depends on it.
Stadium has it’s whole own team, and a load of datamined future content so there’s plenty on the way. Unless literally nobody plays it (Obviously very unlikely) then I don’t see them abandoning it before we get a bunch more heroes in the mode.
Also it’ll have 17 heroes btw, the spotlight stream was outdated
I’m worried about Stadium too. Not having all the heroes makes the mode sub par right off the bat.
I’m really worried about leavers in a best of 7 game mode that can take up to 45 minutes to complete. People are going to leave these games when they are getting rolled.
Will there be backfill in a competitive only mode?
If so, how do they implement it for the player backfilling
This mode seems like it’s been in development for a long time. And I feel like it’s going to fail
Or they could have used the resources to make new heroes for the existing modes seeing as heroes are the lifeblood of this game.
Now they add a new mode with barely any heroes
Blizz… come on
It’s not like Stadium is making us get fewer heroes than before…
In an ideal world, yes Stadium would have all heroes at launch but I think people are underestimating how much time it takes to flesh out a hero with all the new perks which many will come with new animations/voicelines/VFX and so on. The perks are not just number tweaks.
Also there is a benefit of starting out with a smaller roster and that is it gives time for players to acclimatize to the mode and learn what heroes perks do. The mode itself will be chaotic as is and will just be too overwhelming if the whole roster was available immediately. It might actually end up putting players on the fence off as they have no clue what is going on.
Regardless, I think this is the right approach as it also gives Blizzard a chance to adapt future releases/balance based on data and feedback. It’s a lot easier to change course with a small roster if needed at relatively short notice too.
Are you sure about that? They said they’ve been working on Stadium for years, and that there is an entire team dedicated to it.
You don’t think we could have gotten a few more heroes by an entire team over the course of a few years?
We’re still getting heroes at the same rate as always, so yeah. We’re not getting fewer heroes than before. If anything they may actually be increasing the rate of new heroes as times goes on thanks to pressure from Rivals.
They probably could have, but this can be said about so many things so it’s pointless.
Stadium provides things to the game that a higher rate of heroes would not. It’s not exactly a fair comparison.
Maybe you are right.
Maybe I’m just frustrated at them for wasting all that time with pve just to scrap it, and maybe I’m just not trusting them to not do the same thing with stadium.
Once bit twice shy
It at least looks like they will be reusing a lot of the talent system that they used for PVE in stadium. So it wasn’t a complete waste of time.
Hopefully the enemies part didn’t have too much time invested in it.
