Anyone Else Ever Encounter This?

So the enemy team is legitimately terrible. Their Doomfist is flying off cliffs and killing himself, their Ana is taking duels solo, their Reaper keeps holding W and running in a straight line into the enemy team.
They’re bad, like really bad, and you stomp them handily the first round.

Then they suddenly become VERY good. I don’t just mean they coordinate better or whatever, it’s like an entirely different person is playing.
Their Doom is easily killing everyone and combo’ing perfectly, their Ana is hitting every single sleep even on high mobility characters, their Reaper is now actually playing the game and doing insanely well.

Is this some kind of tactic to make the enemy team slip up? Did they turn on cheats that I just can’t tell by looking?
I don’t get it, and it makes me suspicious every time.

Its isually about 1 team getting serious and the other team becoming overconfident.

There are a couple of variants on this. Sometimes they just hang around spawn and a couple of them go in and die. Then a couple more. But it is obvious they are not actually playing the game as they respawn then it’s 15s or more later they come to the fight, sometimes longer.

But then it gets to either 2 mins or 1 min remaining and they start playing hard. As far as I can work out, it is a stack that wants a challenge so they run down the clock to a certain time remaining then try to win the game in that time.

The other thing I’ve seen is when they play really well and easily take the first 2 points, then they seem to just stop trying and push to almost cap then leave it there. These are the same people I think but they are making sure their MMR does not go up and put them into harder games so they can do their other “challenge” approach against low rank players.

It comes in waves. I hadn’t seen it for a while, then I got a few games in the space of a week that followed the pattern, then don’t see it for a while again. I had 1 of those games tonight actually. They ran the clock to 2 mins without getting a tick on 1st point Eichenwald then just ran it to the end non-stop after that.

Regarding bad plays many times I have rusty starts then pick up pace.

Like i would even blink of the map etc.

Also even when winning you will know your team is bad if they are if you notice properly, they will struggle to kill one Lucio, the tank would be a sigma playing chicken little and pressing S.

Some support shenanigans, the other dps could be mid, all these in any role and order.

So when the crack happens they never recover.

ive encountered teams that was really bad heck in one match i OUTDAMAGED my entire team and im not even that good

They probably started coordinating. It’s the most powerful thing in this game and most “clown fiesta” teams that are getting dominated are just not working together. It ain’t matchmaking, it is player chemistry.

Wow, exactly. I’ve seen this too. I always know it’s gonna be a slaughter when they turn up the whatever it is, cheats, skill, both. Yet the pattern is there for sure.

Also I haven’t seen them lately as much as I used to.

You have to remember the times you lost a first round harshly but turned it around to 100/0 the enemy next round. Sometimes it takes a minute to click. Happens in my games all the time, both sides.

If it’s happened, I can’t remember any time I did that. Usually when we’re being stomped, we continue to be stomped just as hard. Even if I swap to hardcounter nothing changes. Say there’s a Dva wrecking us and I’m tank and swap to Zarya. She is entirely unafraid and just obliterates me, running straight into my face with boosters and micromissiles at the same time.

I dont think I have ever had a team go from outright throwing to dominating. I have had teams bomb, have a leaver, then the replacement shows up and that team then makes a major comeback.

I seen this since OW2 launch. In one round they were so bad and all of sudden they became good on next round. I never seen in OW1. Strange.

Something else i saw was that my team being so good and when we were so close to winning. We just lose. From replays i seen my tank all of sudden decides to throw and/or other players in my team. I don’t know if they are solo or in group.

This is why players shouldn’t give up/leave because things aren’t going their way. Instead of making excuses for not sticking it out, they can stay, try and learn something through the W or L they’ve earned.

It’s the same reason why sometimes people feel like their team is full of incompetent bots. What seems like people being “legitimately terrible” to you is just a few mistakes adding up.

Doom messed up and flew off, happens to the best of us. Happens three times in a row as well, it’s just more rare.
Reaper walking in a straight line without doing anything can just be a difference of enemy positioning.
Ana taking solo duels isn’t really the problem, Ana not winning them is which can be nothing but her being unlucky with a sleep. Again, happens to the best of us and it can happen several times, especially when the tank is flying off cliffs and there is no space.

Often all that has to happen is Ana winning that one duel, Doom not flying off for once or Reaper walking into people that are positioned badly and suddenly it seems like they’re playing much better.

This is what it means when people say Overwatch is a very snowbally game.

and exactly why people saying “this game is unwinnable” is the absolute most harmful mentality to have.

Ive definitely encountered this as well. Its vrty surreal. Some of my favorite games are like this: we stomp them first round, then they somehow stomp us in the second round, then the last round is a full-om brawl. Its very exciting but also very confusing why this happens!

My guess is that this is their first game of thr day and they are just warmimg up. After the first round or first few minutes of playing, then they are ready and actually working together as a team. But it happens so fast, its quite perplexing to be involved in.

Turned on cheats/ragehacks. 90% of time this happens its cheats. Happens all the time to me when playing in EU especially against russians, they get stomped first round then toggle cheats on 2nd and spam chat with hieroglyphs.

Pov: your not a shotcaller

My team when Im not in coms vs my team as soon as I join coms.

Basically what Saber said.

Had a game last night on King’s Row where we were dominating second point, we spawncamped for almost 3 minutes straight. I was tank.

Then the enemy tank switched to DvA with about a minute and a half left, and we basically got rolled aftet that. It happens.

Dps were being cocky af, supports tried to get in on the elim action. By the time they realized we were gonna lose it was too late.

Stuff like this happens OP. Its not cheats, its just people being people imo.
