Any tips on how to play Widowmaker effectively?

I know,I know “git gud” but I have spent ages practicing my aim with bots but when I try and play her online I can’t hit any headshots, is there a more effective way to get better aim as her?

You should work on landing the easy shots rather than go for the hard ones. Easy shots as in waiting for when people jump and shooting them at the apex of it and then clicking on their head as it’s the most predictable movement.

Yeah I try to do that but I only land a body shot most of the time. Still, thanks for the tip

Then you just need to grind aim more tbh. Try DM and widow headshots only

Practice is the only way. Practice against players, not bots. Players move erratically, bots do not.

Start by just trying for any hits at all. That should get you a good feel for her, and flick shots in general. After you’ve got that down, then move on to aiming for upper torso, around the neck area. This will lead to the highest success rate for you in terms of combining hits and headshots.

Ok thank you right now the only targets I can safely kill are torbjörn, his turrent, Bastion, and sometimes Hammond.

First: check you mouse settings. If the DPI is too high you are doing it wrong.

Also, get a larger mousepad. I got one off of amazon for $10 which covers my entire desk. This allows you to play at a lower DPI with more accuracy

Keep you hand steady when you click for the headshot (i sometimes struggle with that myself as if im not focusing my hand sometimes shakes as i aim for the head).

Note where you are hitting when you aim for a headshot and adjust your aim accordingly. For example, Mercy ults and she is tough to hit. However, if I am able to adjust my aim for her increased speed I can hit her head

Body shots are okay for starters. If you consistently body shot, you are helping your team considerably. Some of my best games were tons of body shots.

Stay calm. A shaky hand is your enemy.

Learn trick shots via grapple hook. If you angle it correctly, sometimes you literally “Feel” the head shot. I find that sometimes the jump shots are easier to land as the strafing back and forth wont work if you are slightly angled above the enemy.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

If you are NOT hitting the bots at least 80% of the time as HEADSHOTS, you need to stay in practice. try different angles and try jump shots.

Lower DPI, Lower Zoomed DPI, Aim for the head.

If some trys to duel you can spams strafe movements. DONT track them.

Wait to see how they move left and right

Let them walk into your crosshairs

Oh and dont stand around in scoped for to long or you will get obliterated.

I would join a few widow hs or just widow custom games I found that those helped a lot in game. Also going for bodyshots is always good to start out, and helps the team a lot more than going for headshots and missing :stuck_out_tongue:

About how often should I move sniping points

Depending on the map, I move as often as possible. Standing still is a dealbreaker for Widowmaker. Once they notice you, prepare to adapt or die.

The question only experiences can teach you. If you know to think about it you will get better.

I usually use the venom mines to cover choke points and corridors behind me so I know when someone’s coming. Is this the correct use for them

Standing Still is bad, learn to shoot while quick-scoping
