Any tips for more fluid movement on PC?

Ok I know this title might sound weird but I recently decided to get OW on PC after playing close to 900 hours on console. However since this is my first proper time playing games on PC I’m struggling to effectively move my character around with WASD and have my hand positioned correctly to easily press the needed keys.

Any advice?

Something that might help you get used to it is only using wasd - no mouse input - during downtime. Like when you’re walking to point before the game starts, try and get there without moving your mouse at all. It might help you get used to the rigid directional inputs a bit more.

As with most things in life, it gets a LOT easier if you do it more often, just keep playing, it’ll come to you eventually.

Just… avoid competative.

Oh that’s a really interesting technique, thanks for the advice.

Edit for Doc (cuz you can’t send multiple posts at once): Yeah I thought that would be the case but I wanted to see if people had any specific methods to help the adjustment. I did actually get halo MCC to help me learn the basics in the story mode.

Just imagine it as moving using the d-pad.

Never use the Dpad for movement on console, it was a lot easier as you just use the analogue stick.

Don’t stress about it OP, it becomes second nature later, kind of like walking in real life. Before you know it you will wonder how you struggled in the first place. In my opinion it’s something that comes with repetition, not practicing it like aim

Well… You could always use a controller on PC of you can’t get used to it.

I’m certain a lot of PC players do that. It’s all about preference after all.

Honestly it wasn’t much help as telling you to be patient :joy: Even custom games like Murder Mystery, that usually helps with nothing but be fun/kill boredom is good for practicing movement. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help

Oh no worries, just hearing from multiple people it gets easier (which I’m aware of already) makes me more confident with playing it so it does help

People vastly underestimate the value that playing Deathmatch brings - they avoid it because the McCree/Tracer/Doomfist denizens that stock it kind of ruin it for a lot of folks, but there is no better place to focus on mechanics which in this case include unconscious key pressing. Even learning to aim will improve I assure you, the more time spent in Deathmatch, the faster you will mechanically improve.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s much more to it than getting used to the change and practice. But there is an interesting option you might want to try out: Hybrid controls.

In OW it’s quite possible to use a gamepad for part of your controls and kb/m for the rest. It also takes some getting used to, and a lot of tweaking to the control scheme, but it works. I’ve even heard about (at least) one GM-level player using hybrid controls, though I can’t remember at all what their name was.

Short story time. A couple of months ago, I hurt my shoulder quite seriously, and couldn’t really place my left arm enough for gaming on keyboard. Pad use was quite fine; I could rest it on my lap easily, and my right arm/hand wasn’t really affected, so I could use my mouse normally. Of course, using pad alone caused a lot of issues with aiming and button presses. But as I took up the time to adjust the hybrid scheme, using my left hand on pad (giving me access to stick for movement and the D-pad and shoulder buttons for other controls) and my right on mouse (giving me the aim advantages of mouse, and of course all the mouse buttons for other controls), I got far closer to my former level of play.

Note that you’ll probably need a mouse with a couple of extra buttons for this, or be ready to lose a couple of possibly essential inputs. It’ll also take some time to get used to with the shifted controls from what you’re used to on pad alone, but you might still want to test it out. It also might’ve been easier for me than many others, as I’m already used to using both kb/m and gamepad in different games, but don’t have the pad controls in my muscle memory. It may still be worth trying out for you too.

I did think that, but one of the reason I decided to get OW again on PC was because I was fed up of using a controller because honestly the aiming assist system on OW is really not good.
