I’ve only been playing for a little over a year now but I’m really interested in starting competitive. I’m not the greatest but I don’t think I’m terrible ya know. Obviously in need of a lil improvement. Honestly though, the idea is a little nerve-racking and I’ve been hovering over it quite a lot lately so any suggestions or tips you could give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
From other people’s points if you are interested in climbing choose a role to main and a hero rather than flexing every game
There is always going to be trolls smurfs leavers etc but you’ve just gotta know it happens and move onto the next game

This only works below diamond, above that you need to be good at a role AND be able to flex.
SR is only a number. Try not to worry to much about it.
People tend to place artificially close to gold. Don’t freak out if you sink after your initial placement.
-Pick two roles and then pick two heroes to play from each of those roles.
-if you know you are going to die and you are on defense, die on the objective because you die stalling the point.
-Work with your team. Help them do their jobs/ make them easier.
-Prepare for the worst. Even though you have played this game for more than a year, competitive is a whole other game. You may even get ranked very low or you might get ranked higher then most do on their first placements. Just try your best and know that if you rank low that it is only the beginning for you.
-if you want some kind of idea of where you will be placed, play quickplay and look at the ranks of people that are in your games.
Suggestion before starting comp? Don’t. You’re welcome.
Uninstall now and save yourself hours of mental anguish because the developers can’t deal with the negative element infesting there game
And everything they seem to add only empowers the negative players
One other thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/OverwatchUniversity/ has a much, much better community and attitude than this forum.
Only play comp if you hate yourself and want to cause yourself additional suffering
Have to agree here. Unless you end up in the higher rankings after your placement matches, or have a bunch of friends similarly ranked to play with, competitive is essentially broken, and you should just quick-play and practice mechanics until your elite.
