I’ve been using a non-gaming desk for most of my life, but now the old thing is falling apart and it’s become a humongous problem to play with due to how it restricts my range of motion with mouse and keyboard. So, I was hoping some of y’all would be able to point me in the right direction for a good gaming desk?
Any desk that has a large flat surface, is height adjustable, and not bulky (so your chair and body fit comfortably around it) should be sufficient for a gaming desk. I dont think there is really such a thing as a “gaming desk” otherwise. It’s just whatever is comfortable for you and not restrictive. You can probably get a desk from IKEA for like $100 that’s very well suited for gaming.
Build something out of 2x4.
Ah, really? I thought there was a specific brand/type for gaming desks that were designed to be more desirable than a normal desk. I’m kind of an older gamer, so I’m completely out of the loop on things like these.
I’m sure there probably is, but I sincerely doubt there’s any real advantage to them. They might have some nice features that are designed for gamers like having built in power strips or A/V connectors for cable management, but at the end of the day the thing that’s important is your performance on the desk, whcih is really just about whether you can comfortably control your mouse and keyboard. Do you have enough space? Is the surface flat or are theres bumps and stuff where mouse tracking or cables can get snagged and throw off your aim? And can you comfortably fit around it?
Get a nice ikea desk, install power strip/surge protector and plug it in. Boom
A table is a table.
There’s some that are better than others with things like adjustable height and other bells and whistles (as well as size and build quality), but it’s not like mice or chairs where an ergonomic design is beneficial over extended periods of time.
You’re just putting your PC on them.
Personally I just use a secondhand office desk I picked up from the op shop for like 30 bucks.
Gaming desks can be almost literally whatever you want. I picked up a simple desk at Walmart for $40.
Its gaming chairs that you should consider investing money into.
Is the gaming chair thing just a meme or are they actually good for you? Again, I’m an older gamer, so please explain lol
Gaming chairs are usually just desk chairs that have a lot of adjustments options for the arms rests and chairs and stuff, and sometimes may be designed for better posture. But I would sincerely question if they’re really any better than an equally priced desk chair from a reputable manufacturer such as herman miller.
This is a popular brand of gaming chair, for example:
$300 for a chair??? whaaaat
Good “racing bucket” gaming chairs help with good back posture, which helps with fatigue.
DX Racer, Vertagear and Secret Lab are good brands to look into.
$300 isnt really that bad for a decent desk chair. Even for a non gaming chair you’ll easily pay that much for a good one.
i probably should’ve expected this, considering i used to work in retail recently and shoes ran up to almost $100 despite being obviously cheap mock-up mass-produced garbage lmao.
Eh, I don’t have problem with fatigue; my main issues are with my desk at the moment and being able to properly move my mouse and access my keyboard. But if it does become a problem later, I’ll check these brands out. Thanks, Wyoming!
A lot of times what you pay for is the construction quality. You can certainly pay $100 for a basic office chair but in 2-3 years it’ll start falling apart and it’ll be about as comfortable as sitting on a piece of plywood. You can also pay $800 and have a chair that has all the bells and whistles and also last a solid 8+ years before showing any real signs of wear and tear. Just have to do the research to find out which brands are actually just marked up garbage (or paying for a brand name) and which ones are actually good quality design and construction.
Yeah, but what would you do without:

I use a white plastic folding table 90% of the time. Gotta say the durability and amount of space I have is 10/10. It also makes a solid noise when I slam it.
