Rule No.1 : Put the shield in the spot that cover your team, not your self.

Try to not back down unless they’re while team is rushing you or they get a pick. Standing your ground with fortify and pulling them backwards with halt is a good at to deter slower advances by the enemy, as long as your team supports you.

That’s for defense of course. It’s fun to feel like an immovable object.

On another note, try placing the shield at an angle if defending from the point, like on Horizon. The first point, she can block both the front door and one of the side doors.

If the enemy has any heavy CC characters, save fortify to deal with it.

You should’t have a lot of downtime with Orisa. There’s always something you can be doing. Place your drum behind your shield, put out cover fire for your teammates, score headshots when you can, use fortify if your shield is broken to reduce incoming damage and CC

Shoot at the place you want your halted targets before triggering it.

Always have a little space between you and your shield, unless you’re turtling in the corner on of the point KOTH. Which is a valid tactic.

I think people should be careful with this specific wording.

I’ve seen plenty of Orisa’s taking this way too literally and placing the shield down in a place to block for their team then running out as a regular character without a barrier.

Place the barrier to shield your team but don’t forget you are also part of the team. You always need to take cover as Orisa otherwise you will not be alive to place the next barrier to cover your team and yourself.

Good tips mentioned so far but remember this first:

Switch off if there are no healers on your team

It’s not worth tanking if you have no heals. You’re a bigger target and you have no escapes. If they rush the shield likely you will be the first to go.

Try to refrain from using Orisa on attack. Orisa is a highly immobile character, and serves a much better purpose when standing her ground as opposed to approaching her enemies.

so true ! its so frustrating realising in the middle of the game that ur healer is garbage ( ur ana cant aim or ur moira is playing dps or ur mercy is just pocketing the ferrah)

another tip is to focus the tanks , ur weapon is strong but its projectile based , so its in efficient to shoot at small heroes , leave that to ur dps moira  lol

When people don’t realise that Moira has to deal damage in order to heal.

hehe im with u , im a moira main . but some moiras in plat do next to zero healing

Orisa on attack is fine.

Just need to be a lot more forward movement aggressive with shield positions.

If all you do on attack is barely move the shield past the choke, then yeah, it’s time to switch off Orisa.

Never go passive and babysitting someone especially Bastion, that might feel good for one or two fights but will surely end up bad once the enemy team relize they can outnumber you.

Always walk with your team and use a shield as an agressive tool to create a more suitable place to fight and don’t forget about shield dance especially if you in a 1 v 1 situation.

Utilize your halt to keep enemies on the other side of the barrier if you need to defend yourself, or use it to prevent your targets to escape, works great if you can time it right and cut down their mobility.

Learn your friends and synergies as Orisa works best with only specific set of heroes, aka Hog\Junky\Reaper\Ashe\Moira, if you have atleast one of them stick together and help them with your halt to secure kills.

Think twice about positioning of the supercharger as it can be a difference between a good or bad teamfight, but don’t hold on to it since it can be obtained really fast.

And most importantly work on that aim.
The good Orisa is the one who land most of her shots and provides a good fire support and can take care of the flakers on her own, but don’t shy away from asking Moira for help as she is your best buddy when it comes to deal with annoying Genji\Tracer.

Use shield when ur having a bad situation

Know how to navigate around your shield, I think some people forget that it’s double sided.

Watch your head for snipers.

Because you’re slightly immobile the enemy team loves to sneak behind you. Watch your back. To prevent a team wipe, tell your team to not all gather behind the shield, that’s the perfect place for a Reaper or Pharah to use their ult. When you’re by yourself, they’re least likely to use their ult and if they do you’ll be the only casualty.

Also, Orisa has pretty decent gun damage when you land headshots.

Use the green glowy ball (forgot the name of it) to throw your enemy team off of certain maps. Some people are resistant to falling and always find a way out but other just have bad positioning and fall for it every time. This trick may take some time to perfect.

Unpopular opinion: Orisa is better in attack then defense, she’s a great a defender but a more dangerous attacker as well. I have more success attacking with her than defending, maybe because no stays behind my barriers on defense I guess :man_shrugging:
