So we see Wuyang and Anran fighting in the trailer, and Wuyang’s attacks use most of are pretty faithful to his kit (other than some small embellishments like blocking attacks with his staff) and showcases all of his non-support abilities.
And we know Anran is basically guaranteed to be a new hero eventually, so could this fight animation also reflect her kit?
Looking at the footage here is the closest I can make out to a kit
- Fire fans - quick melee jabs with flaming hand-fans
- fire shield - She quickly does defensive martial arts moves, summoning a short-term shield around her that bursts when finished into a big blast of AoE damage
- Fire projectile - She shoots a fire ball from her fans, can be used somewhat frequently perhaps a doomfist-esque cooldown system
- fire-boosted high jump - She shoots 2 jets of fire out of her hands allowing for a long burst of movement in a single direction. Possibly with a short windup time and possibly dealing damage at her starting location
So we see the makings of a melee kit here you got your get in/out ability your stay alive in the fight ability and your do a bit of something even when you’re out of melee range ability.
I do think it is lacking a bit of the mobility needed to be a pure melee kit, my guess is that since she’s so athletic she’ll have some passive mobility baked in like genji, or perhaps there are abilities we aren’t seeing, or perhaps the fireballs area bigger part of her kit
And then of course most of her attacks will inflict some sort of fire status effect. There’s generally two ways these work there’s afterburn like we already see with abilities like ashe dynamite or there’s temperature mechanics where attacking the same targets consecutively build heat on them either making them more vulnerable or culminating in a big burst of damage once at the max
Which approach they use could really change the kit, a heat-meter type mechanic would be new to Overwatch and would sell that fantasy well that you’re doing a big martial arts type combo that has a big finishing blow without having to have any specific ability do too much damage (unlike dps doomfist). Meanwhile an afterburn approach would encourage you to spread out your damage among several targets to maximize how many people on fire. Punch their genji who’s flankign you, burst into the chokepoint, aoe burst their tank and lucio, shoot a fireball at their ana and another at their ashe, and listen to the sweet sound of fire ticking on 5 people at once. A very different playstyle but would also be fun
And of course there’s the possibility that she’s not planned to release for like 3 years and they don’t have a kit planned so they just did typical fire attacks for the animation
