Was planning on recording a match I played last night, but was hit with a bug fix patch, so now it’s just gone.
Considering how little this patch actually changed and considering it doesn’t seem to have actually changed any core gameplay mechanics, I have to question…
Do the replays really need to be deleted EVERY patch?
It also doesn’t make sense that a copy of the replays aren’t being saved locally, even when they’re pinned.
Because I’m on console, I can’t access the game at all once an update is released because the whole game is marked as a network feature. That means I can’t delay the update to record the games. Shouldn’t it be possible to download and access replays without signing in though?
Personally, the fact that you just erase our replays with no fore-warning kind of feels like a huge “[***] you” to players like myself that actually want to use this system.

I’m not a huge nut on game coding. But what I assume is that there are some slight errors that come with any patches. I.E. Tracer Blinks being fixed this patch. Since they’re a game mechanic, any type of changes done will affect the replay since replays are played back using the game itself.
The replays are refreshed to avoid complications in code.

So far every single game I have played has the replays wiped after a patch. And we get patches often now
If the replays were actually recordings, that would solve this kind of woe. However, that would require much more data to store.
As it is, the replays are the game recreating the match with all of the inputs made throughout. This means if an update comes along and changes even the smallest thing on a character, then it’s going to break the replay anyways.
They don’t choose whether or not to delete replays with each patch either, it’s just something that happens automatically.
Having a way to access the game without updating it would be a good way to go though. I think if you boot up the game while not connected to the internet, and then connect to the internet, it may be possible.

Streaming your games is a good way to save them.
I use shadowplay and can clip or start recording with a simple F9 or Alt F9, it saves on my hd.
Actually there was one time the replays didn’t get cleared. But an ability was changed. Ashe’s ammo amount. The replay still stored her original stats. It is possible for the replays to store the old information. But I guess the more complicated they get, it cause more bugs. But I wish they announce when a patch is coming out.
Dude, 100% Junkrat accuracy was too strong from the game to handle.
Regarding the ammo count, it’s probably because of the Experimental card. It existed during that time so I assume that it allowed it to exist due to that.
The D.Va bug was indeed a core mechanic that needed a patch. It actually interfered with gameplay.
Unfortunately PS4 won’t let you access any network features before updating a game, so the internet-off-internet-on thing just won’t work in my case.
But if it temporarily downloaded the data for the match to your system (And only when you pin the game, to further save memory) they could probably make the replays accessible while offline, which would be kind of ideal really.
