What a long, winding road it has been. I began in launch days tryharding QP and Comp to eventually loathing both due to meta comps and the existence of DoubleShield. With 5v5 there was initial relief, though the core game model joined the lowest effort hanging fruit of FOMO and battlepass, and I missed out on much outside the finely tuned requirement to meet the milestones for pixels bound to my account. Furthermore, being primarily Support, 5v5 is especially stressful rather than fun yet the FOMO was driving unhealthy priorities.
Being no longer a spring chicken, time is shifting back to more meaningful pursuits and maintaining precious bonds and community, and there is increasingly less time to worry about FOMO pixels bounds to my account. With the recent Classic experiment card and current 6v6 mode, I have been reminded of what made OW fun to begin with - agency of tactics and room to experiment, and the occasional absurdity resulting in various compositions and circumstances.
Granted I maintain that Sombra mains focusing on me the majority of match as I try to heal team should touch grass more often, it still improves my own gameplay and the challenge is always appreciated in hindsight. Also the flexibility for OffTanks to peel rather than be limited to pushing and holding the line makes each match far more pleasant than any 5v5 match ever was, all things being equal.
With all the other games to play in this space, many out the gate following the same lowest effort hanging fruit FOMO battlepass model, I hope to keep casually enjoying the devil I know which in 6v6 is more therapeutic than stressful.
