Anniversary Remix Feedback Thread: Post Yours Here!

The Anniversary Remix Event is now upon us, and while many folks had much to say about it prior to its release, now it can be officially rated by players. So now seems like the perfect time to start a unified thread in which the Overwatch Community may share feedback with Blizzard in regards to the Event, and provide some Constructive Criticism in regards to it.

I have a few complaints about the Event which I have already preemptively stated in the official announcement thread, but I am going to reiterate them here since they were not addressed by the time the Event went live, and have negatively impacted my potential enjoyment of the Event. I also have some new complaints as well which I have not voiced previously because I was trying to be optimistic.

1.) Failure to include the complete library of Limited-time Skins.
It makes absolutely no sense that only three of the past Weekly Event Skins were made part of the Anniversary Remix when they all could have been available and quite frankly should have been added to the Anniversary Loot Box pool as well as the Hero Gallery. In addition, OWL Skins really ought to have been included as well.

2.) Failure to provide each individual Seasonal Event Mode with its own dedicated Slot in the Arcade Mode rotation.
The standard modes should have been temporarily set aside in favor of seasonal modes from the Archives Event onward. Regardless of the fact that the Archives Event was effectively replaced by the Anniversary Remix, player are obviously still looking forward to playing the annual PVE Archives Event game modes, yet here we are on Day 1, and what do we have to choose from Lucioball and the usual rotation of standard modes.

3.) Failure to implement Cross-Platform Progression.
Here we are at what may very well be the Twilight Event of Overwatch, a premature Anniversary Event coming over a month ahead of schedule with the Overwatch 2 Beta coming at the end of the month, and not only were many Skins from previous Weekly Events and OWL Events excluded, not only are players lacking in an opinion to play their favorite PVE Modes on demand, but Cross-Platform Progression still hasn’t been implemented? Now would have been the ideal time to gotten that together by, but like so many other facets of Overwatch, it has been neglected.

4.) Failure to add any new variations of old favorite PVE Modes.
When I heard that there would be no new PVE Modes released for this event, I wasn’t all that concerned because I had presumed that the name “Anniversary Remix” implied that at the very least, all new variations of old PVE Modes which would surely be improved by Fan Feedback would surely be implemented. For instance, Uprising and Junkenstein’s Revenge with all Heroes unlocked complete with adjustments to each mode to balance them for all Heroes. Would that have really been so difficult to do? It would have required minimum effort yet made all the difference to players.

5.) Failure to deliver any surprises whatsoever.
Obviously the community was disappointed by the announcement of the Anniversary Remix Event due to the fact that what was announced was underwhelming, extremely lacking, and utterly void of anything exciting with which to send Overwatch off with a bang. This was an opportunity to surprise players with something special, leaving them with something memorable as well as something to look forward to, yet it has turned out to be a wasted opportunity.

Needless to say, I’m very disappointed with the poor execution of this event. One would expect that since this is clearly a sort of send off for Overwatch with Overwatch 2 looming over the horizon, that something special was planned, yet it wasn’t. Even after fans were clearly disappointed by the announcement right from the beginning, leaving room for something to be put together over the past few days, or at the very least for changes to be made based on feedback, like making more of the Limited Time Weekly Event Skins available for players to unbox or redeem their Credits for, yet nothing at all was done. How is the community supposed to react to this, Blizzard? How are we supposed to feel?

Personally, I’m very disappointed. I feel extremely let down and my expectations weren’t even particularly high. Furthermore, I can’t help but feel less enthusiastic about Overwatch 2 when the Overwatch Anniversary Remix feels like an obligatory afterthought of an event with absolutely no passion or enthusiasm by the developers behind it.

That being said, fortunately the Event is still going to run for the better part of the month, leaving no shortage of time for the dev team to make minor QoL Tweaks in response to Fan Feedback and improve upon the event before it ends, possibly even extend it, if need be.

So I encourage anyone who is displeased by the Anniversary Remix Event to provide Constructive Criticism for the developers with which they might use to improve the event before it comes to an end, to salvage it before it goes down in history as a failure. Please try to be as polite as possible and don’t just tell Blizzard where they went wrong, but provide ideas in regards to how they might make it right, and try to make a discussion of it as well in order to keep the thread active so that it will remain on the front page where they can see it.

Bigger version of the mini challenges from past I guess….really it just boils down to just continuing to do what I normally do anyway

Nice that they bring back some of the time limited skins……but otherwise a non event for me….so pretty indifferent about it

It just feels like there is a whole lot of untapped potential and missed opportunities here. There’s much room for improvement too, but it doesn’t seem like Blizzard it listening to any of the feedback they receive via the official event threads, (assuming they’re reading the comments at all) hence why I posted this thread. Unfortunately, it’s getting zero traffic, so that’s all she wrote.

Oh well, I’m making the most of the event regardless, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I’m extremely disappointed and my overall expectations of Blizzard when it comes to the future of the series had been effected by just how little passion, enthusiasm, and above all else effort went into the Anniversary Remix.

Archieves remix would’ve been better

I would hope for OW 2 that if they aren’t going to do these events that they could lend these assets to a level editor and mode creator for some mod customization.

The devs put in all those hours shame to not let longtime and newbie modders put out creativity that other multiplayer games get to do.

That’s a great idea. If the devs want to spend more times focusing on more important gameplay related facets of the game such as balance, then maps, cosmetics, and new modes ought to be user-generated content.

Valve once did just that with Team Fortress 2, (a game which Overwatch clearly drew inspiration from) by opening the Steam Community Workshop where the community could submit their own cosmetic otems, and they had a place to submit new maps/modes on the official website.
Blizzard could easily do the same for Overwatch 2, and it would be a scenario in which literally everybody wins. The dev team would have less work to do when it comes to annual events, and the community would most likely be more satisfied with the results since it would all be made by fans for fans.

Easy.

  • Don’t just recolour the skins to the exact same identical colour, it makes them all look boring.
  • Give players who already have the weekly rewards something for re-achieving it. Let players earn the sprays from twitch drops/events they missed first. Then if they have everything, give them a choice between gold, lootboxes, comp points or one of the new skins.

Now the new skins aren’t boring and you aren’t slapping your most dedicated fans in the face.

Yea but Valve pay the creators for their work. That would mean Blizzard would need to pay users for submitting content which they won’t want to do since they won’t realistically make that money back. Also with what they did to Warcraft 3, they want to own any and all user created material.

I may be in the minority here, but I’m actually pretty satisfied with the event. Most of the time the events are just a bunch of skins I’ll never even consider using with 3 weeks of filling the arcade with garbage I dont care about and removing my favorite mode (total mayhem) from the rotation.

This event gives me:

  • Recolors of some actually good/popular skins that I think look great
  • A chance for other people to get some missed challenge skins without pressuring me to play the game just to get in my wins for the week if I’m doing something else. I couldn’t care less that I get no reward by already owning the challenge skins.
  • Arcade only uses up a single tile which is the best case scenario for events

They don’t necessarily have to pay the community for content submissions just because Valve did with TF2. They could easily just have a legal disclaimer and a checkbox which indicates that all content submissions become the property of Microsoft, Activision, Blizzard, etc.

Yea they don’t have too, but given how much they’ve already destroyed their reputation and relationship with the community it would just nuke that even more.

They currently have a competition where they wanted people to submit user created art and the winners got $500 but they kept the rights to all submissions and they had to go back because the community outcry was so much and that was for a drawing. It would be even more for 3d modelling, animations, texture work etc. because that take significantly longer to do and noone will be willing to do really good ones for free just for Acti-Blizz to immediately take ownership of it.

I won’t lie, the Anniversary Remix is a big disappointment for me, yet again.

Since I already stocked up on tens of thousands of coins (97k to be precise) and already got 2 of the recoloured skins from the gold lootbox, the remaining 4 are easy to get and barely mean any content.

As for bringing back the old challenge skins I am happy for those who didn’t have the possibility of getting them the first time, but I already had them all.

Sadly it’s still nothing for the people who sticked around all this time. No twitch sprays returning for these challenges (I personally want Mei & Mercy spray from Mercy Recall so much since I missed on it and it’s one of the best sprays), no return of OWL gray skins or Blizzcon Warcraft themed skins or Pink Mercy…

Certain folks have been suggesting the possibility that since this is merely the first of multiple Anniversary Remix events which will occur throughout the year at the time when other annual events such as Summer Games, Halloween Terror, and Winter Wonderland would otherwise occur, more Limited Time Skins will be made available for subsequent events.

To this I can only say, assuming that is correct, why? Wouldn’t it make more sense just to do a “remix” of each separate event with its own distinct content rather than have multiple “Anniversary” events which are all more or less the same but with additional Weekly Challenges as well as “remixed” skins?
Honestly, I think that fans would be a lot more satisfied playing Archives Remix, Anniversary Remix, Summer Games Remix, Halloween Terror Remix, and Winter Wonderland Remix than multiple Anniversary Remixes with a rotation of PVE Modes which are bound to get extremely repetitive.

Sadly, the Anniversary Remix just seems like something that was thrown together haphazardly by the devs for lack of anything better, an event for the sake of having an event rather than a legitimate attempt to offer a new twist on fan favorite content. Because the deeper we get into it, the more folks analyze the developers posts regarding the Anniversary Remix elsewhere, the more obvious it becomes that this wasn’t something that the developers thought through very carefully, but rather something which was just sort of thrown together spur of the moment to fill a space which would have otherwise gone unoccupied.
It really does seem like they originally had planned to just rerun the Archives Event sans new content, but as the time drew nearer they had second thoughts, yet insufficient time to produce anything new, so they whipped together the Anniversary Remix just to cover for the fact that they had nothing planned/prepared.

My only hope is that the overwhelming amount of disapproval that the Anniversary Remix is receiving will make them reconsider doing tje same for future events, and just run them properly.

Personally, I would have been happier with an “Archives Remix” of sorts, which was more or less just a rerun of the PVE Content of previous events as well as the Weekly Challenges of previous events as well.
Anniversary Remix is a total bust, and has unfortunately has most likely set the tone for future events for the remainder of the year, unless of course they receive enough feedback to convince them otherwise.

There are plenty of threads on the subject, I just hope that Blizzard is reading them, in spite of the fact that many of them have rather rude titles which could easily be dismissed as typical whining from folks who do nothing but whine regardless of what they do.

You really need to manage your expectations if you were expecting them to just randomly drop these things.
