Anna doesn't count as a 'counter'

I’m tired of seeing Anna listed or suggested as a ‘counter’ to certain heroes due to her anti-healing capabilities being on such a low cooldown.

Her Anti-Healing grenade is so powerful it kills anyone. That’s not a ‘counter’, it’s just overpowered. A counter is something that is really good against one or a few heroes but average-bad against others. An AOE grenade that stops all healing destroys anyone, sometimes everyone hit by it.

Ana counters every tank and every support with just one ability. But no let’s buff it and ignore Zen and Brig needing buffs.

Kiriko counters it though? Ana doesn’t even counter hog anymore even without Kiriko.

By that logic, why don’t we buff Moira and Mercy? Mercy without pocketbotting isn’t impactful. In what elo do you feel like Ana is dominating? If anything, I’d rather have a Lucio/Bap than an Ana.

So powerful there’s like 15 ways to block it, a bunch of ways to cleanse it, and she needs it for when she gets flanked so it’s not like she’s just going to be spamming it every second it’s off cooldown.

Yeah, not sure what’s with all these posts about her nade being overpowered? Are they even playing the same game? No way does a good player get naded and just continues to shoot or stand there. Nading a tank doesn’t really do much. Tanks in OW2 have so much armor that nade just wears off before it can do anything. I don’t see a lot of posts of people complaining about Lucio. Arguably Lucio has the most impact in the game.

Basically a meaningless argument.

Being blocked by things is fairly standard across nearly all offensive actions in the game. Heroes being weaker after having used abilities due to a cooldown is also true of nearly every hero in the game.

I feel you could argue that basically nothing has ever been overpowered by your criteria.

Alrighty then, based on your criteria how exactly is it overpowered?

No mention of her sleep dart ? Nice try xD

People perceive it as being unusually oppressive.

I’m not sure that Ana is overpowered, in fact I think she’s numerically not, but if she’s draining fun from the game they should act on it. Same reason they kept Doom and Sombra underpowered in OW1. If the game is better with badly designed heroes kept weak, keep them weak.

The issue is that Ana’s value comes from her nade. Right now her nade isn’t really oppressive but might be for lower elo players who don’t know how to play around it. And it’s a double-hit for Ana since she has the lowest mobility in the game. How would they make Kiriko or stop Mercy pockets without fundamentally changing their kits? How would players feel that a high skill hero has one of the least impacts in the game because of lower elo players?

I like and play Ana, but anti-nade has always been overpowered. The ability could use a re-work. Good suggestions have been made. Like the idea of it weakening healing (with more duration to compensate) or buffing damage taken.

I guess they could make Ana actually high skill then?

Give her splash falloff on her nade but give her impact damage, let her headshot but give her falloff, reduce sleepdart’s hitbox, give her an ult with a semblance of skill expression.

Ana is one of the highest skill heroes in the game. And I wish people would consider said “high skill heroes” were being pointed at Kiriko. Kiriko who was released at the game’s launch, was pushed to the most picked/most win-rate support hero and it was justified because she was “high skilled”. She’s not the most “high-skilled” purely on the fact that high elo players dominated with her and learned her kit in a matter of weeks.

That would make Ana overpowered. She would be a pseudo-sniper, crazy amount of heals, and you would have scenarios where good Ana players would kill her counters if they approached her.

Same argument lower-elo players made for Sojourn. She’s “high-skill” therefore she should remain strong. Can you say a hero is “high-skill” if they have no ways to punish said heroes? Would a widow be “lower-skilled” compared to Sojourn?

Eh, Ana is skilled in some ways but not skilled in others. She was clearly built to be playable around silver ranks, or on consoles. Like, there’s a reason why all her value comes from bodyshots, large AOEs, no falloff explosions (even junkrat lost his no falloff explosion), and the least challenging ult in the game. That’s why she was always a top tier pick alongside Mercy in bottom ranks.

Then reduce her damage. Every other “high skill” hero is required to land headshots to function at all.

this is how we spot a troll post

She’s meant to be a support hero. Give her headshot damage and she would be another Kiriko except even stronger.

Have you seen Ana players in silver? Ana is designed as a high skill hero. People in silver get more value with Moira than they do with Ana.

Not true. Ana’s value comes from her positioning. Her long range gets value if she never dies, which therefore warrants her low-damage. Otherwise, the things you listed, would be better off playing Baptiste. High damage, high survivability, good pickoff potential, good AoE heals.

10 seconds for having the potential to anti-heal the whole opposing team is considered ‘low’.

Only other person in the game which has that ability is Junker Queen and it’s her ultimate.

May I ask what role do you play that’s giving you a hard time against Ana?

only to be immediately cleansed by Kiriko which is the literal Meta for supports

Cooldowns difference means Kiriko only cleanses half of the BioNades.
That is, if there’s nothing else that requires the use of Suzu, so a best case scenario…
