I haven’t seen too many people talking about this, but from worst to best, how would you guys rate the 9 animated shorts? This is strictly my opinion, but I’d love to see what everybody else thinks
Worst to best:
Shooting Star
Hero
Rise and Shine
Infiltration
Recall
Alive
Top 3 (These were really hard, all 3 of these ones are kinda tied for me. BUT if I had to choose worst to best…)
The Last Bastion
Honor and Glory
Dragons

Sure it’s good. They’re ALL good. But is it really better than any of the others, though?
I don’t get why ppl like rise and shine but maybe I’m just a husk lol
I like it because of the emotion that it has. It really tested the boundaries of how “dark” these animated shorts can be, and although Mei isn’t my favorite character, it made me admire her more by showing how she persevered where most other people would probably give up.
9.Shooting Star (so bad it’s painful)
8.The Last Bastion (cheesy Pixar wannabe)
7.Rise and Shine (cheesy)
6.Recall (cheesy)
5.Hero (cool)
4.Infiltration (cool)
3.Honor and Glory (cool but cheesy)
2.Alive (like the dark tone)
1.Dragons (best by a mile)
Was that all of them?
So many good cinematic let down by very very poor writing.
From worst to best:
Shooting star
Rise and shine
Hero
The last bastion
Infiltration
Alive
Recall
Dragons
Honor and Glory.
Can you give some examples where the writing is cheesy? I don’t really think any of them are cheesy except Shooting Star and maybe some bits in Recall.
I`d say Last bastion is the best one, and that first cinematic about museum robbery was the worst by quality standarts.
Everything else in between can be rated pretty equally depending on wich hero you was most interested to watch at.
Sure!
In Recall I find the interaction between Harold and baby Winston cringe worthy. “Never accept the world as it appears to be, dare to see it for what it could be” just doesn’t work for me. At all.
In Honor and Glory the whole interaction between Reinhardt and his mentor feels really artificial and corny.
The entire The Last Bastion feels like a lazy attempt to project emotion. It’s like a 3rd grader trying to write a movie after watching Wall-E.

I would say they are all good.
If I would rank them: From best to least
The Last Bastion
Honor and Glory
Dragons
The Plan (Yes, I count that one as well)
Rise and Shine
Recall
Shooting Star
Hero
Alive
Infiltration
Forgot about that one! It’s really good and for sure deserves a spot (despite not being a ‘real’ animated short)!
I don’t even count the cinematic trailer, to be honest
I liked that quote because it just goes well with Winston as a character, to be honest. Even as a kid, he was curious and innovative. I suppose it’s a little corny, but the music and the art style when they’re looking at the Earth makes up for the actual dialog there.
I actually really liked their dynamic. Reinhardt being young and reckless, Balderich being the responsible one, who truly knows what it means to be a crusader. The only way I can see somebody thinking it’s corny is due to how short of a time we get to see these characters and how they’ve already established such a strong relationship. However, that’s not an issue with the writing, that’s just the nature of these animated shorts.
You can definitely see the inspiration from Wall-E, but you can’t deny that the music and the art style are incredible here, better than any other short IMO. The music and animation is even better than a lot of Pixar animations I’ve seen. Trying to convey an emotional story in 8 minutes without a single line of dialog is not an easy task, and I think they did a pretty great job with it.

When snowball powered out I was just thinking
“Can’t she just recharge it? This seems totally fine, why is it being framed as sad?”
Then the short ends with her doing exactly that.
I did however enjoy it overall because I like finding out about backstory.
No no, I agree they look amazing! Like I said, it’s the writing I take an issue with! The visuals is second to none!
Exactly, only seen that story a million times! Don’t get me wrong, I really like Honor and Glory (in my top 3 after all), I just think it could have been even better with some more creative writing!
You can do amazing things even in short films when it comes to writing but agree to disagree
