I got a message from another angry player earlier today, and I’m trying to make sense of what he said.
He said he was going to “slam dunk and score” with my mom? First of all, my mom doesn’t play basketball. She doesn’t play any sports that I know of. Secondly, how does this player know who and where my family members are? Is the games security somehow compromised where people can see my IP address or something?
I’ve spent the past few hours looking at VPN services to see if I can better protect my network privacy.
I have since reported this angry player to blizzard and I have warned my mother that if anyone approaches her wanting to play basketball that they should immediately call the police and run.
I won’t be posting the players name here due to naming and shaming rules, but I just want to warn everyone out there that your ip address might be compromised. This is a very serious situation and I will be bringing this to blizzards attention through any outlet I can (twitter/Reddit/Facebook)

Unless he mentioned your mom specifically by her name or other specific details that no stranger in an online game would ever know, it’s just empty gamer rage.

One of the big dangers of playing online games is your mom spontaneously picking up basketball with people you play with.
If she starts making 3 signs at you like Steph Curry, you might want to check where she’s going at night. The dangers are real. Thousands suffer every year.

Very funny. Except In this case it’s not funny. My mom has osteoporosis and recently had a hip replacement. Playing basketball right now would be -extremely- dangerous for her health.

Have you never seen the special olympics? People of all different abilities are now able to score and be dunked on. There is no reason a hip replacement should stop her from scoring herself. I’m sure after recovery she’ll be able to do so all night long.

As Sonny pointed out, unless they gave any accurate information like name or address then it’s quite obviously just empty gamer rage, the “Your mum” joke has been around for years and it’s always creeped up one way or another when someone loses a game (Usually in the “I did your mum last night” format) just don’t take these seriously UNLESS they somehow happen to pinpoint anything accurate.

Not funny. My mom has had severe back and hip problems for the last few years. I don’t see how endangering her further could possibly be considered ‘fun’ in any capacity.

You’re getting comments like these saying “playing games with OP’s mum is always fun!” because the whole situation isn’t something serious, sure it’d be a different story if the message was “Your mother’s name is (Name) and you live at (Address)” but it just sounds like some harmless gamer rage that you should’ve just ignored because it’s always posted by some young kid who’s mad they’ve been getting killed over and over again.

I don’t think he really wants to play basketball with your mom. Scoring is actually slang for something entirely different.
He wants to obtain illegal narcotics with your mom. That’s what it means “to score.”
The slam and dunk parts are probably part of the crimes they will commit to get funds to obtain the drugs.
I’m guessing he’s a Columbian drug lord. Like most everyone online, he’s probably over 6 foot tall and really buff. You should warn your mom (unless she likes drugs; in that case, I’d ask for a finder’s fee).

eeeeeeeh, we dont know whom did what. So I will just leave it at that. A blizzard rep needs to investigate the situation and look at account action for one party or the other.
