Analog keyboard might make the AD strafing problems worse

Just a heads up. There seems to be a surge in analog keyboards like Wooting 60HE which allows the players to input their actions much faster than a regular keyboard. I fear that this is going to make the AD strafing problems worse when people start using it in OW2.

I know most people prefer lack of movement acceleration. But don’t be surprised this problem is going to get worse the more people start using analog keyboards.

There is no AD strafing problem… and mechanical keyboards are still better. Analog keyboards need dev’s to actually optimize the game for them to even be anything other then basic keyboards.

want movement acceleration?

play (hopefully) any other game
its the last thing i will request to ow, the day i quit that is

I think what they’re referring to here is that you can set the actuation point on this keyboard. For example, you can set it to .5mm so that your keypresses work faster. Most mechanical keyboards actuate somewhere between 2 and 4mm, depending on the model and configuration. It also “releases” the keypress the instant you release pressure rather than when the key reaches the actuation point.

Theoretically it means crisper, more reactive inputs, but I probably won’t ever be sold on it unless I tried one and it turned out to be awesome. If shortening the keystrokes was really that great, mechanical keyboards would have done it already. That or we’d all be using those super-flat keyboards like laptops have.

wait thats a complaint over for example mac keyboards activating faster than a regular travel distance keyboard?

who cares?

I’m thinking it could be quite useful in the hands of a really skilled gamer, but for the average? Not so much.

For most people it’ll probably feel better to use, but it won’t actually cause any noticeable improvement. Like all precision tools, you only get the advantage when you reach a certain proficiency.

it might give a tiny little speed advantage to thosee able to use them more effektive than regular ones.

always a feeling thing.

i used to have mx speed switches and swaped them bc i was always jumping on accident due to the low key activating force needed.

If there is movement acceleration that is what will kill Overwatch once and for all

There already is, on heroes like wrecking ball and lucio. Even widowmaker can’t abuse AD strafing because her movement becomes slower when she’s scoped in. So some heroes by design aren’t that problematic even if they lack movement acceleration.

It’s just the few heroes like sombra, tracer, S76, ana and moira who are a bit too good at abusing this mechanic. I would add sojourn to the list too in OW2. The ability to be lethal while simultaneously being able to abuse AD strafing is what I find troublesome. And I just fear that this might get worse once people start using analog keyboards. Projectile heroes are going to have even more harder time hitting their shots.

Or, it might make a non-problem still a non-problem. Besides, network inconsistencies inherent to not running on LAN would wipe out any discernable effect.

It will result in accidental key presses alot. I remember when I first got my mechanical keyboard the key stroke were much less effort than my membrane one to the point I kept driving into walls and off mountains in GTA simply from resting my fingers how I used to and accidently pressing the keys.

OW has no analog movement input on PC and macros are not allowed if it is just simulating quick presses.
