Why are people making this response like Mercy’s situational awareness is any more demanding than Zen or Ana? Bottom line, her ability to survive is far greater than Ana. That’s the primary point being made. We already know there’s a difference between Mercy players who can and cannot utilize her to the best of her abilities.
Edit: BTW, I know your post wasn’t a direct comparison of the two. But anytime someone brings up the ease of her kit, we’re met with “but it’s not perfect” (caveat).
reason why this is wrong Ana is weak reason being if you play her you have to try harder to live in terms of self heal in terms of fighting if you are alone and forced to, your get out of jail ability is a skill shot and all for one her value is nothing special sorry to say. You can play like a pro on ana but if you play any other healer you could play half as well and do just as much. The reason ana will always be the lesser picked (still ana main dont care if people salty) is because she takes more effort to use sure zen is kind of mechanically intensive but ana still takes more skill than him.
This is my original post. Did I ever say anything about her situational awareness being any different from other supports? I said that people always tend to think that using GA is super easy and that there’s always someone to fly to, truth is that’s not always the case as people often break LoS to take cover or chase an enemy. Don’t try to make this into me trying to say Mercy demands more situational awareness than say Ana, Ana is the hands down most difficult support to play and I’ve never stated otherwise.
Ana is weak, has been since they nerfed her repeatedly. Moira is balanced, but her main issue is just that she’s a generalist, she’s great in a variety of situations but really doesn’t have any extreme synergies with anyone, so she’s excellent for teams with substandard teamwork since she can perform multiple roles. Mercy is balanced as well, it’s just that when she’s got good teamwork, she synergies really well with others, and her res (assuming she’s protected) tends to fit well into higher level team comps.
It’s pretty much is super easy. Nothing is perfect, but as far as disengages go, if you understand the flow of the game and have decent game sense, it really is very easy to use GA to get out of most situations with people who play her fairly regularly. But great point about not making this into an Ana vs Mercy debate. Just so we’re clear, I understand you’re not saying that.
I always find it very… well, redundant to compare Mercy and Ana. They are both healers, and that’s virtually where the similarities end. Ana is obviously a much more demanding character in every way, I would never state otherwise. However, good Mercy play is more difficult than some people like to give her credit for. The thing with GA is that a lot of its power belongs in the team - an organized team can make it extremely powerful, while a typical QP game will have people running around everywhere outside LoS. Adding the bunny-jump did increase the skill needed to use GA - many think its just “a longer jump”, but I’ve been able to make vertical jumps to avoid attackers and sling myself with extreme speed to avoid nukes. Again, not saying it’s mechanically super difficult, but it’s one of few ways to differentiate between the skills of those playing her… sadly.
Mercy really is team dependent in a way no other character is, the only thing she can do without a teammate is glide and shoot. Ana, in comparison, has all of her kit at her disposal without needing a teammate (in theory that is, in practice Ana is in dire need of protection, hence partly why she isn’t played). Ana’s kit is so weird, it contradicts itself in so many ways…

Movement ability that depends on other people’s positioning
Pistol - that’s hard to aim if you have to defend yourself
Valkyrie - Literally everyone can see you, and you are the main target of the enemy team 95% of the time + it’s healing is not as good as Trancendence , Coalesence, Sound Barrier
Rez- 75% slow and a cast time, literally a sitting duck
Yeah , She definitely doesn’t have any weaknesses , Let’s nerf her to the ground just because she’s better now than she was before the Rework
I’d actually argue that Ana & Moira’s niches are just pretty abysmal more than anything…and even then, Moira was actually thriving on ladder back when Dive was meta.
Ana & Lucio don’t really synergize all that well with other Supports and their utility and ultimates aren’t strong enough to actually make them worth picking in this meta.
Instead of nerfing her , they should rework her, She’s considered by many to be unfun to play now , any nerf will make the situation worse + I don’t think she needs any changes right now, Moira is strong but in certain situations , Ana needs a lot of help to be as good as them. Fun fact - when the Mercy nerfs hit the live servers - everyone was happy that they can play Ana again and she’ll be meta, but it actually never happened, because Moira was the better go-to healer.
The problem with Mercy is that she will never not be a must pick and the only way to stop that would be to either remove Resurrect completely or give the other primary healers (Ana and Moira) a resurrect like ability as well.
Until that happens Mercy will always be a must pick, because Resurrect is just too strong an ability to not have at your disposal.
You will always need a healer so yes you will always have a need for a healer. if you want ana to compete on her level ask for ana buffs/fixes moira not being able to heal through barriers is also gonna further cement mercy has the best main healer
fix and buff the other main healers and mercy will no longer be the top dog main healer

MERCY MAKES WAY MORE MONEY For the game. Look at how they abused mercy players with the breast cancer awareness.
It could have easily been any female hero and the skin could have been for many people but nope just make money off mercy players
Buffing the other main healers won’t do anything to shift Mercy because they cannot resurrect other players.
You could nerf Mercy into the dirt and she would still be a must pick because of just how valuable Resurrect is as an ability.
All you would do is contribute to the current support powercreep if you just buff the other main healers to Mercy level because Mercy isn’t must pick for her healing, she’s must pick for Resurrect (and Valkyrie is a very strong ultimate on it’s own).
Like I said, the only way to bring the other main healers up to Mercy’s level is to either remove Resurrect or give Ana and Moira their own resurrect abilities.
