We can all argue about whether Ana is OP or not. But this last week has shown 1 thing - if she is in every game then tanking is too much of a chore for people to bother queueing for it. Her nade is up too often and is used against tanks at least as much as it is used for healing. As a tank you can be purple 4 seconds out of every 10 but in reality it is 4 seconds out of 12-15 often.
Like Sombra, if an Ana decides to target you as a tank for the entire game then your game is completely ruined. If youâre rein with a quick deploying shield you can do something, or Dva, but as Hog, ball, Sigma (he can grasp but generally uses that for damage mitigation when shield is recharging) or monkey you are an easy target and I see more leaving this week than usual.
To me she is like Hanzo - overpowered, but because they are normally not in every game you think ânext game will be betterâ. But now they are in every game and itâs miserable to tank.
I donât believe Rein/Zarya is the reason tanks seem to be leaving and DPS queue times have been going up considerably this last week in Europe QP, but rather that the prevalence of Hanzo+Ana in a vast majority of games makes tanking just horrible.
Sure, git gud would help, but the vast majority of the tank player base just have to live with it or move on. This last week they seem to have decided to move on. And I suspect a lot of them wonât come back to tanking if Blizzard ever gets around to fixing the current situation.
Itâs interesting to me that people seem to think anti nade is an op monster ability and a free fight win, but your team can never follow up on a sombra emo in a million years. Even though emp is not really going to get cancelled outside of a Lucio hiding with best or a reaction trans but nade is one of the easier abilities in the game to block if you get used to the animation/sound queue. Why is one op but the other not
Because nade comes from a support so you have two damage dealers to follow up, but EMP comes from one of the two damage spots so you are relying on the one remaining damage hero to follow up.
Itâs the exact same issue that Mei has, as they are both âsetupâ heroes.
Nade is a situational ability the Ana has to actively choose if itâs better to try and use it against your opponents or on your team to give them a healing boost, her ability can be blocked by shields/walls, it can be cleansed by Zaryas bubble or Moria using fade, she can be hacked so she canât use it, stunned and killed if she uses it in defense (nading a Mccree wont stop them from killing her), or even have her nade deflected back at her by a skilled Genji. It has its weaknesses and things itâs ineffective against meaning it has weaknesses to counter its strengths.
There is PLENTY that other heroes can do to counter or avoid nade all together and as someone said if you get hit with anti heal for four seconds you can back away until it wears off and try again. Ana is not the reason tanks are leaving the role, they are leaving because tanks are being gutted at every turn in one way or another, healers have been given a similar treatment, meaning healers canât heal enough & Tanks are being shredded by McCree & Hanzo to name a few DPS with ridiculous damage output.
As someone who played mostly rein, Ana is why I quit. Paper shield plus anti-nade equals immediately dead tank. This is also why zarya is essential, since she has the only cleanse that can be applied to other people.
This isnt really Anaâs fault though its becuase poor Rein got gutted the way he did that its so frustrating for tank players. I will say Iâm not against slight tweaks to Ana to perhaps increase nade cooldown and shorten the nade duration to 3.5 seconds or something, but the developers of Overwatch have proven time an again they dont know anything about balance or when a nerf goes too far, they refuse to acknoweldge they messed up (Case in point all of the tank nerfs that were totally needed >_>)
im an avid hanzo player and im right there with you bro. the storm arrow change never needed to happen in the first place and im also a huge fan of mccree but FB+FtH has been making me mald for weeks since his 225 buff. i play a lot of tank and playing winston and hog has been PAIN. i almost exclusively play zarya nowadays when im solo. guess what zarya has? an instant cleanse that makes her shoot harder!
mcree, hanzo, echo and then the other hitscans except soldier do
anas nade can be blocked by every tank except hog and ball
hog who is hard countered by ana
ball who has shields so the effect doesnt affect him
nade can ruin the game if the ana gets huge ones constantly (because the tanks are bad) then they deserve to win, it is the only support ability that can single handedly win fights and it deserves it

seriously, you can block it by so many ways,
if she uses nade, ana is really vulnerable as itâs her only way to heal, capitalize on that.
You know what really sucks on this situations? When you play support and your tanks get nade - than spam for heal, which is immposible, while they are pink, ofcâŚand than you get blamedâŚLIKE WTF!
Most picked healer and 2nd most picked hero in every rank except for GM.
This happens when you try to balance around GM. A hero which was supposed to reward players for better aiming dominates the ranks where players objectively canât aim.
