It can’t be graphics settings because I didn’t change my settings, the PC is the same as before, and the feature was working until I uninstalled + reinstalled on another SSD(the same one as Windows, this time). I gotta think this is a bug related to either the newest update or the fact I pre-downloaded the next update, and I can’t find a way to delete the pre-release and it downloads automatically on a new install. And I had so many good clips the past few days
I’m gonna try and download Overwatch on my steam deck just to see if it works there.
Update: It DID work on my steam deck! So now I know it’s got something to do with my machine or installation. It might also be because I’ve downloaded it through Steam there. Ugh, what a pesky bug.
Update 2: I reinstalled the game while unchecking “automatic updates” and it did not download the pre-release content. This did not fix the issues tho
I think I might have to use Steam to actually fix this
Update 3: I am absolutely at a loss of what to do. I tried downloading the game through Steam, tried installing it on the old hard drive it was originally in, disabling Windows Defender completely(it was mostly off anyways), double checking Firewall rules, logging in on a different account, absolutely nothing works. I can’t see shop images, can’t see battlepass previews, can’t watch replays and not even the season launch video showed up(there was an error). Would really appreciate a response from the devs here.
Update 4: A bit of a bigger evolution here, so bear with me!
I seem to have narrowed down the issue to a possible certificate problem. When looking at the Event Viewer(a Windows tool that logs system error and whatnot), I’ve noticed a very clear trend:
- Whenever the game is open (but NOT just the Battle.net launcher), a bunch of issues repeatedly pop up under Windows logs> System, with the message “The certificate received from the remote server has not validated correctly. The error code is 0x80092013. The TLS connection request has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.”.
- The details vary slightly from error to error, but some keywords I could find were “GoogleTrustServices1”, “
storage.googleapis.com
” and “breaking-news.support.blizzard.com
”.
Now I have almost 0 knowledge in this area, and this could very well be completely unrelated as, from my understanding, these kinds of errors can pop up even when everything is working correctly and by themselves don’t denote a bigger issue, as exemplified by the “breakingnews” url - This doesn’t seem to be related to my issue at all. HOWEVER, the google storage API could very well be related to both the shop images not being able to load and the replays, as those are both things that pull data from the OW servers.
The closest support article I could find in regards to this issue was BLZBNTBTS00000011 - Blizzard Support , and I did the steps in there to replace my DigiCert certificates, but no dice. I have also found this old WoW post from 2016 with a very similar scenario, although I’m afraid it didn’t help much: https://web.archive.org/web/20160907222251/http://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17611171301
I have opened an actual support ticket to get some help with this, and talked with them for a bit. They said this is a new issue so no workaround is available yet, and this will probably require a bugfix from the devs, but to keep reporting my findings. So I guess that’s what I’ll do.
Some other things I have tried recently were creating a new Windows user, changing servers, flushing my IP, completely resetting my Firewall settings, and basically every troubleshooting guide on the Blizzard website. Something I forgot to mention is that I don’t have any antivirus software aside from what Windows forces you to have at a minimum.
Welp, for now I guess I’ll have to switch to Steam Deck if I want to watch my replays ^^’
If anyone reads this and does NOT have this issue, could you kindly check on Windows Event Viewer if you also get the same errors I do whenever running the game? All you have to do is to press Windows + R (to open the Run prompt), type in eventvwr
and navigate to Windows logs> System. Take note of anything that’s in there, if there are any errors at all. Then launch the game and check if any errors pop up by going to the Action tab and selecting “Refresh”. Thanks a lot!
