After playing other games with a far better quality of matchmaking, I’ve come to realize something about the matchmaking in this game. And that is, the point of the matchmaker here seems not to provide BALANCED AND FAIR matches, but rather keep the player ADDICTED. Wanting more.
Think about it for a second. The vast majority of matches in this game are a case of stomp or be stomped. With trends that appear seemingly out of people’s control/hands. With most people’s win-rates floating around 48% to 55%. Again. Designed to keep you addicted. You stomp players, you feel good. You get stomped? You feel bad. And so it is a vicious cycle of rinse and repeat.
Here is an alternative, which Blizzard would never implement. But, would dramatically solve this case of matchmaking. What if people’s rankings were setup based upon their performance, rather than them being punished for the performance of their team. Think about that for a second.
What if players were completely responsible for our own stats and ranks, and no longer shackled by the 4 others on their team? Meaning, if let’s say there is a leaver on your team? Or someone blatantly trolling? And you lost that game? You wouldn’t lose points. The person who left and trolled? Did. So on and so forth. Rankings being done based upon personal performance data, which was then SHARED PUBLICLY with each other. And not this secretive MMR bs.
Then all of a sudden, that whole “it’s just QP” garbage would fade. Because now, all of those people with that mentality? Would be forced to face against each other. The people who are tryharding during their matches? Would be forced to face against each other. So on and so forth. You’d have genuine rankings, and not this artificial nonsense.
Also, this would severely hurt those who get boosted to rankings which they don’t belong in. Meaning, if you have someone who is being carried (say a Mercy queued up with an incredible WM), and their stats show that they’re way below other Mercy players in that particular ranking that they’re playing in? They would lose points, rather than gain points. Simply because once again, their ranking is now based upon their data.
