So Sym is currently my DPS main (I am a flex player so I have several mains) and I was wondering if I am using turrets correctly.
Currently, what I use them for is like this: before the round starts on defense, I set up my turrets by most chokes. Throughout the course of the game, especially when getting into 1v1s, I throw one on the ground between me and my enemy to get the slow effect and minor damage. This helps with the long cooldown, considering that I only use one at a time versus all three at once.
Is that the correct way to use them, or is there a more effective way?
I try to throw turrets up and around the point if I need to mid-fight. Throwing them straight down puts turrets in melee range for every hero. So while yes, they will activate faster, that faster activation time is useless if someone just melees them.
Throwing turrets on the wall behind someone also helps in fights because they would need to turn around to deal with it (think enemies trying to move through the dorado choke after they destroyed your initial turrets)

Generally speaking, I just put them in random places because I know they’ll all be dead within 2 seconds.
If the enemy has like a tracer or genji you can save your turrets exclusively for them though.
In an open space/fast paced Brawl, throwing them on the ground is not the best but it’s your only option.
A good on the ground placement option is for the Turret Bomb but this is only effective once or twice before the enemy catches on (enemy awareness depending)
Mainly you want to set your Turrets in areas you can retreat to or places you know enemies will travel through.
Don’t bunch them up! While this guarantees Maximum damage in a single target quickly, it also guarantees that they will all be destroyed as quickly.
Instead, know the max firing distance of each Turret and place them so the enemy must spend the most possible time looking/aiming at each Turret while they are taking damage (directly above them, one to the side, etc) just imagine a Zarya grenade radius and try not to bunch Turrets at that radius.

I wouldn’t always throw them between you and the enemy. I like to throw them behind the enemy on a wall, or to the side of me on a wall so they have to really dedicate destroying it by turning instead of just pressing W and killing it
I put turrets at my feet when I want to control the space

You should be putting them on a basketball at the start of the round and then kicking the basketball all the way to the enemy Ana. Then watch as Ana, with Grenade on CD, dies a slow and agonising death as lasers sear through her nasty little grandma body. RIP–but not the P. >:(

The ONLY reason I miss old Primary fire.
Well, before the game starts I like putting them on enemies spawn or in key places away from me they will pass through for more free damage considering my turrets will all be off cooldown until they come.
Then I try to place them near me in key spots, And usually placing them up will be better as you force enemies to look away from you. Not to mention to deny value from heroes like Reaper,Reinahrdt or Brigitte who can’t even reach them.
Remember the turret got a 10 meters radius so don’t be shy placing them above enemies heads.
Another cool classic trick is to remember turret blocks hook and shots from Widowmaker.
I usually put them near a choke but spread out their height. I’ll put one or two up high and maybe hide one near a pot or flower. Sometimes that little extra time can mean a free kill. I’ll put them in different locations too. Putting them all in one spot never works.
I do this mostly vs Genji players since the turret dmg is usually enough to make them go away. I used to do this with Tracer too but she can just outrange your turrets. Against other heroes I don’t think It does anything really.
As usual, there’s no single “correct” way of using them. You can use them as harassment, placing them all around to slow down enemies. They can help ambush enemies, by placing them near chokepoints. They can be alarms, with a single one placed in an alternate route of approach to alert you when it hits something - or gets destroyed. You could teleport bomb with them (place them in a bunch, then place a teleporter to immediately send them through). Or they can just be shot nearby during a brawl, to add to the team’s damage.
Pretty much the only common thing is that when you can, try to place them into places where they’re hard to see, not accessible from the enemies’ approach direction and/or otherwise require a bit of extra effort to get rid of. And if you only have one turret out and could still place more, the two others aren’t doing anything. Unlike some other Abilities, they aren’t even a huge threat. So unless you have a specific plan, you should send them all out.
