I know I’m relatively new to the competitive scene, as I finally caved and decided to give it a try after persuasion from multiple friends so I could get better in a more serious environment. I’ll go ahead and put a disclaimer that I’m not claiming to be any pro at the game, but I’d like to believe I’m halfway decent at what I do.
I started this season with a high of 2219 in Gold and I’m presently sitting at 2036. I’m a Support main, I went into this knowing it was going to be difficult. However, I didn’t expect to get snowballed so hard that I’d go on a 9 game losing streak, and then spend the rest of my games going one step forward and two back. In about two seasons of non-consistent play in competitive, I’ve lost 300 SR and it feels a bit ridiculous.
Now, I don’t know a great deal about the competitive scene by any means, but are there a lot of smurfs present? Because I’m seeing a lot more shots at my level than what I saw two seasons ago, and while I didn’t play regularly by any means it didn’t feel like it does now.
You are bad and you deserve the SR you got. The MMR is not wrong. Matchmaking makes no errors. Believe in Blizzard and peace will befall your soul.
That was for the trolls you’ve opened yourself up to. They’re probably crying tears of happiness now and can’t read this, so the truth is many people experience what you are experiencing. It doesn’t mean you’re bad, for one thing, Gold is average, not bad. The fact is you’re on what many of us call a “forced loss”, because you probably did something poorly while playing your character and the algorithm that determines your hidden MMR has put you on a track to match it. It will be a painful ride, but when you’re done, I guarantee, like many of us, you’ll question why you went on the ride in the first place.
My suggestion is that if this is bothering you, then this game is not for you, competitive is completely constructed by a hidden algorithm, in all honesty this is the computer’s representation of your skill, not your own performance. Go play another game because it only gets worse from here.
I admit I had a rough ride through placements. I made the poor mistake of testing out new controls while I was starting Competitive and I didn’t think it would impact my play that badly. I got called out for it, which I should have, and I took time to try to sort it out.
That being said, I don’t want to quit Competitive. I want to get better, I want to be able to say I was able to sit myself in a rank I’m proud of. Maybe I’ve gotten a bad perspective of Gold because I have acquaintances that are placed higher than me and are admittedly very toxic to lower ranks. As angry as I get with this game, I love it simultaneously and I want to see improvement in myself.
Perhaps I’ll just have to keep playing, keep crossing my fingers, hopefully see some improvement in myself and fix this pathway I’m on so I can actually start climbing and not feel like I’m playing like actual trash each game. >.<
Do not say your bad, don’t let others get to you. You continue to play competitive, and whatever distracts you block it out.
You won’t learn if you are distracted from others misguided information saying your a terrible player. Just keep improving and you will be at diamond or even higher in no time at all.
That’s good luck. Most SR fluctuations including mine can reach low as -500 SR below your career high. You’ll climb back eventually though so don’t sweat it, this games matchmaker is just god awful.
While I don’t know what exactly you are doing, but I’ll give you some general information.
No matter what rank, players always have something to improve on. You will also get throwers/leavers, bad teammates no matter what.
The only constant factor is yourself. It’s as simple as just playing more and getting better.
But if you want to know how to get better, check the following for starters:
-Watch your own replays, including lost games.
-Managing your cooldowns.
-Ability to land abilities.
-Positioning yourself so that you are less likely to die and help your team.
-Always check what your team and enemy is running with the Tab.
-It’s also very important for supports to shotcall and track enemy ults.
Dont worry, it happens to practicaly every new player, Comp mode is something different than Quickplay. Best you can do it actively learning game kniwledge and post recorded game so others can give you tips what to fix in your gameplay.
Don’t think you are bad at the game. The game tosses a lot of players into that rank. If you ask me, 4 years into the game, that is not a bad rank at all. Don’t worry at all, and keep playing and learning.
So, no offense, but you’re most likely bad. And that’s okay, nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of smurfs, sure, but it wont be why you don’t rank up.
Would you like coaching? Could help you improve and get to a rank you respect. If so, hmu on discord. My tag is Nickdarick#7021
Here’s the thing, and I forget this far too often. Overwatch is not a game you (most people) can simply play and climb. It is a complex game that requires you to correct your mistakes, and to do that you have to know what you’re doing wrong, in order to climb.
Gold is an average rank, so being in the 2000s makes you a typical player. If you want to climb, you need to identify your mistakes and correct them.
Honestly, hitting diamond was the worst thing that happened to me in OW. I’m not a great player by any means, so when my QP and Arcade matches were flooded with masters players, OW lost all of its fun because I was simply outmatched. I one-tricked D’va to diamond because hitting that rank is what was important to me.
Once the D’va nerfs came though, I plummeted because I didn’t know how to play the game, I had simply gotten good with one hero.
TL;DR
OW is a complex game. Gold is a typical player. You cannot just play and climb; you have to correct your mistakes and get better.
Don’t listen to people who say you are bad. No offense, but this is common garbage advice on the forums. The seasons fluctuate, and so does the player base. Smurfs are really bad right now. You go through ups and downs with matchmaking.
Just keep playing and you will improve over time, and get a mix of better teams and match ups. Never listen to people who say you are bad or want to criticize your gameplay through footage. That is a complete waste of time. Play for yourself and you will be sure to improve.
I have a 60% win rate on one account and I am below 400 SR from where I started on Support and Tank and 200 below SR on DPS. This game sucks. The SR and win system doesn’t look at whether you have won your match, but how you statistically perform compared to other players. If you let this get inside your head it’s over. Again competitive sucks.
Also I have improved immensely since i first started, but that doesn’t stop the game from forcing losing streaks on me against smurfs and people obviously more skilled than I am, just to keep me in my place. The hidden MMR, after all, is segregation based on skill, plain and simple. Bronze should not be playing with silver, or gold. Don’t want them ruining the majority’s experience.
The ranking stems probably putting you with different levels of players and is just trying to find where you belong. It doesn’t mean you’re bad, it just means that you getting put with all kinds of players since you’re new to comp. gold is average so don’t worry because even in low gold you’re not bad at all. Just keep playing and eventually the games will get better. Give it time.
