Alright, what is it with Mercy players and really poor awareness?

Occassionally I play with a very good Mercy that clearly has a lot of game sense and knows where to apply her value, but I just got through reviewing some replays and maybe 80% of the time, these are the Mercys I see in my games, and I simply find it astounding. What is with the sheer amount of Mercy players, with lots of hours on her I might add, that can actually be this bad at the hero? I’m a not a good Mercy player by any stretch of the imagination and have like no time on her and yet I can pick her up for a couple rounds out of sheer spite and do better than these people with 100+ hours on her.

These Mercys have suicidal positioning, walking into the middle of teamfights or in front of their Tanks offering themselves up as an ult charge meal for the enemy team. Instead of running away and coming back to regroup when fights are over, they stagger themselves by healing that one person remaining on critical as they try to die with their team after everyone else has died and most of the enemy team is still alive and healthy, so they live for longer and feed ult, die, and then Mercy dies a few seconds later slowing down the whole team. Or better yet, she flies in to rez that last teammate after the fight is over and they’re both immediately killed together. Why would you do that? I just don’t get it. And it’s not a one time thing, these are behaviors I am seeing consistently from most Mercy players I get.

And it gets worse. A lot of these Mercys don’t even use half her kit, they do not damage boost to accelerate their teams ult economy and close out duels quicker. (A bit rarer.) These players tunnel vision on their Tanks and ignore dps that return directly to them for healing, and rather than looking behind them when they know a teammate is coming back, they only ever look forward and only heal whoever happens to be directly in front of them meaning if you’re on critical you need to put yourself in harms way if you want this Mercy to heal you, since their priority is always that Tank missing 100 hp and not yet in danger of dying over the squishy missing the same amount. And when you use that ‘need healing’ command one time, they get hissy at you for being so bold to ask and sometimes they stop healing you at all the rest of the match.

Horrendous target priority. Abysmal awareness. Horrible understanding of the hero’s value. Why are there so many bad Mercy players? Am I just unlucky and it’s a bizzare coincidence or is this a common occurrance for anyone else?

Probably really bad tunnel vision.

a lot of mercy players go into the hero with the “She’s brainless easy, so I’m just not going to do anything” mindset

they would soon find out, if you’re not using gamesense and making call outs, you’re as good as a hacked mega healthpack

playtime means nothing in ow

Lol you talk like you are playing games in high bronze or something. Mercy’s do not do any of those things at your level or they wouldn’t be there to begin with (source currently playing Mercy in your elo) I mean I guess it is a common rank for low rank Mercy players to get boosted to so mabye you’ve run into a couple bronze or silver mercys fresh off a boost? who knows.

It really isn’t only Mercy players. Everything you described are plat and under issues. I guarantee everyone else in the match is doing the same thing. It’s just more obvious when it’s Mercy because her kit is so simple.

It’s because we’re all drunk when we play, clearly.

I notice this too. I’m a Mercy main myself so it’s especially painful to watch someone with 1k hours on Mercy using a fancy 15$ skin and golden staff who has absolutely zero control over her GA, horrible game sense and positioning, and on top of it they ALWAYS use Valkyrie when their whole team is already dead just to fly back to the spawn room and save their own life, or pop it when the entire enemy team is already dead. Never actually use it DURING a teamfight.

And you know it’s the same Mercy players who say Valkyrie is useless lolll

See I don’t even touch Mercy and I know you want to initiate with Valk as you describe, and I understand her decision making to at least a better degree than some of these people. It just seems really wierd that I’ve seen such an influx of these players recently. And it is just quite frustrating.

I mean if you have them in your games, then they either can’t be that bad or you are not exactly a genius at the game either.

I’m high Plat, I suck at the game. But it doesn’t take a genius to at least know better than the behaviors I’m describing.

Yeah but again, those described Mercys are (roughly) same rank as you. If they would suck oh so much, then they wouldn’t be in Plat.
Everybody has an offgame, I see DPS and tanks do who knows what sometimes and I’m in Masters/GM matches.

Admittedly, some of the rezes I go for are suicidal, but it’s hilarious when they work.

Bonus points for rezzing RIGHT in front of a Widow and AD+crouch spamming to successfully dodge her shots. :sunglasses:

TLDR: I like fun too much to ever be good at this game. :joy:

Because most Mercy mains don’t play real games. This is their first “”“real”"" game they consistently play online due to how easy/accessible some heroes are (Mercy/Moira). They don’t have the experience/awareness to look around. Some aren’t used to the pressure and just tunnel vision.

What’s the difference between a silver Mercy main and a GM Mercy main? Her duo’s SR.

THIS is what your average Mercy main looks like in a normal FPS.

Meh people have off games sometimes. Once in a while I misclick my superjump or bunny hop and end up basically making out with McCrees gun.

The only thing I can say about poor positioning is that maybe the tanks or dps positioned poorly so the mercy takes a risk to heal them despite being out of position along with them. Maybe someone was on the mercy and she was trying to reposition because no one was peeling for her?

I would also say that with mercy there is always balance about who to heal. Often Tanks are more valuable as space enablers but often when I heal as mercy and If I know my second healer is ana or moira and I feel like they are not being competent / doing their job well. I put more effort focussing tanks sometimes because of that. But I at least always heal up a critical squishy before a tanks or juggle my beam between the two until the squishy dps is healed up so I can heal the tank up again as it is quicker to heal dps / squishies first

Whoa there, acting a bit too tough aren’t you. I bet you’ve been caduceus pistol whipped alot, to cause you to spout such vicious lies.

it’s funny how people think mercy is the easiest hero on OW when moira exist.

It’s funny that you’d say this because my past 4 matches I had a Mercy, they were the only gold player in the match.

As an ex-medic main, and ex-mercy main, most of them are horrible, at the first sign of danger they just GA into anything instead of having a plan, they don’t realize so much of her value is healing through barriers and nimble targets like gengu or tracer so their other healers can manage the targets they are best at, exc…

I notice a lot of Mercy’s also don’t dmg boost at the right times, like healing is no1, then you kinda just switch when no one is at risk, they will watch a doom fly in at 100% hp, heal them and once he starts taking dmg they will boost… kinda thing

I mean I just let them do their thing though, as I really only play QP these days so am not too worried about much.
