Personally, I think it’s time for Mei to get a complete Rework. She has remained one of, if not, the most hated hero in the game since Overwatch 1 came out. There are no parts of her kit that are actually fun to fight against. It’s time for a complete overhaul. Or at least nerf her into the dirt and keep her there so I never have to see her again
Ball icon saying that a hero needs to be reworked because they are ‘‘unfun to play against uwuwuwuwuw’’ has to be the least self-aware thing I have seen today.
Anyways, this is a pvp game. You are not entitled to make your opponent do or play what is acceptable for you personally. Go play a PvE game, but something tells me that you will complain about that too.
If you dont like playing against Mei, you adapt or you cope.
So… put her ice block on a resource meter and give her a new ability that deals damage over time?
ok, maybe it’s just a coincidence that you have wrecking ball as an icon, coincidentally a perfect counter for Mei.
Anyway, actuallt Mei goes well, although I think the developers are undecided whether to keep her a cc (see the revert made this season). I think she just needs some better rules around her primary / secondary fire, rather than assuming skill shifts to make room for other functions as happened with roadhog and Sombra.
She’s not OP… but technically she’s a character who’s a bit messy about the contribution he gives to the team in her personal survival skills or blocking enemies with wall.
She already has the slow so they can’t add that either… maybe give her a grenade like thing that does dot, they can call it frostbite. Just enough of a flavour text to make it different from all the other reworks.
She synergizes a bit too well with tanks. Sort of like mini goats. Granted, there’s a reason players gravitate towards it, due to all the BS tanks face, but maybe we need to move away somehow from sustain metas.
the point is that Mei has very “strange” gameplay. On tanks, let’s exclude the OBVIOUS counters like D.VA, Wrecking Ball, Sigma, Winston, Junkerqueen, and I guess Roadhog & Doomfist: who’s left?
- Technically Reinhardt is optimal for blocking Mei’s frost while his teammates assist him, but it is a completely defensive ability, and the charge can be blocked by ice;
- Orisa is perfect at fortifying to not be affected by the frost, and she has an excellent way of blocking icicles… but you can counter the ultimate with an icewall;
- Ramattra is a good compromise in blocking Mei’s frost… but he also suffers a lot with the ice wall;
- Zarya can always mitigate damage… but his bubble with that spray doesn’t collect enough frost, and hibernation makes getting the kill on Zarya even more frustrating;
From these assumptions we see Mei as a possible “tank” that creates a “goats situation”, having as fundamental characteristics: A, good survival on the pitch - B, a defense that protects the team - C, an ultimate CC that stops the enemies. And why can’t you sync her as a tank? very small hitbox, difficult to manage resources, her defenses can also be a flaw for the team, and above all her skills are more advantageous for herself by trapping opponents who try to escape or don’t get the kill, generating frustration.
her kit is a paradox that is difficult to resolve, because we don’t really know how to treat the CC, which is so iconic of the frost (despite having been nerfed with ow2) and fundamental enough to function as a “trap”. perhaps some rules on the CC should change, but they tried it in season 5 and it didn’t convince anyone.
Ice block on a resource would be filthy. The world is not ready.
Some of you are throwing ‘‘goats’’ as some kind of boogieman word while not understanding what GOATS was and apparently just to excuse butchering Mei to put her into the tank role.
Literally making up a problematic that does not exist.
Mei is pretty simple. Her slowing and wall are not effective on characters with fixed frame mobility. Swift Strike, Translocate, Blink, etc.
She’s only useful against non-mobile heroes and those with acceleration such as hammond/dva during roll/boosters. Even Winston/Doomfist don’t care about Mei much due to their fixed frame leaps.
She’s an area denial and anti-aggression. You respect the wall else you get trapped. You respect her range otherwise you get hit with a guaranteed 100 DPS + slow% that makes it easier to kill you.
This make her naturally weak to dive which is predominately heroes like doomfist, winston, tracer, sombra, echo, genji, kiriko, etc. While she’s rather useful for supporting the comp we have had recently which is the slow static team. She’s the natural counter to rush based comps when you have DPS behind it. The Illari/Bap/Bastion has so much ranged fire power, it makes up for Mei’s lack of it.
When you have people that can’t take value from slow/wall on a regular basis (aka Pharah/Mercy), then her value plummets into very easy usage. Icicle is her primary weapon in the bulk of situations resolving to use wall/slow on mostly corner situations or on point or choke points where you are forced into her stuff.
Mei either needs to lose Cryo, or be moved to the Tank role. Her damage is fine. Her ultimate is fine. Wall is fine. Cryo, however, is not.
I think that title actually goes to Hanzo or Widowmaker.
To me at least GOATS was just boring to both play and watch. Still, I disagree that Mei can contribute to GOATS. She was not even used for GOATS when that meta dominated.
I am more confused why Mei is even being associated with GOATS. Mei is still a DPS at heart, she just uses tank tools to achieve her goals. Unlike Brig, who literally was both a tank and a support during GOATS.
I think mei is treading on a thin line where she almost necessitates a rework. But so far I think she is fine. Her oppressiveness can only be achieved with proper team work, so it’s up to your team to outplay the enemy team’s strat.
Regarding mei hard-countering wrecking ball, I think this is more of a wrecking ball issue rather than mei. It’s not just mei that hard-counters ball, but brig too. Ball just isn’t fit for 5v5 in his current state and he needs a major rework or get turned into a different role like DPS but with less health.
Here’s a counterpoint to why Mei doesnt need a complete rework.
She is the best designed accessible hero in all of gaming.
Also shes a flex dps, there isnt a flex dps in the entirety of overwatch that isnt “annoying” to play against. every second post on the forums is x flex dps is annoying
Mei would simply no longer die if she had resource ice block.
yes it is. and no, she does not need to be moved to the tank role either.
Reaper should be the first to get a rework.
No, it’s not. Mei has 250hp. She has a short range option and a long range option. Her damage isn’t insignificant, she has a wall for both self-defense and utility, and then to top it off cryo makes her invincible for 5 seconds and heals her.
If this were a new hero, people would be breaking out the pitchforks and torches. Mei has been a strong pick for several seasons. You simply can’t say a dps hero with all the tools of a tank, but the hitbox of a dps belongs in the dps category. Something has to give.
I hate the wall with the burning passion. Slow is okay, her headshot burst damage can surprise but it’s fine I guess. Blizzard is kinda obnoxious ult but it’s ult so I’m fine with it. But I loathe the Wall, it’s so cheesy on any map with chokes. Always the same boring strat - someone (usually tank) walks up, wall them off, free kill. Rinse and repeat. They managed to survive? Then it costed them their all cooldowns probably and now your tank can destroy them.
Playing into Mei is like playing into extra tank. Meka base, Kings Row, Nepal, all those maps where Mei can just defend and wall people off in the choke are so bad to play when Mei is in the lobby. I don’t care about her left-click if it freezes people or deals damage. WALL IS THE PROBLEM. And it’s her only gimmick realistically speaking, who plays Mei anywhere else other than on those maps? Her left click is short range so it’s easy to stay away from her, her right click is a lot worse than just hitscan weapon or Hanzo projectiles, so it’s mostly about the wall. And wall is mostly useful on maps where you can cut someone’s escape entirely (if they can just walk around the wall then Mei value plummets).
I don’t like Mei and I probably never will as long she is just one trick pony designed to split people up. Too much value in the wall, too little in everything else. The cheesiest hero in Overwatch.
Cryo is the opposite of a tsnk tool. A tank self stunning to heal and losing the ability to hold space is garbage. It works for a dps because they dont anchor a team
