Almost every update = latency spikes

Is this the new norm, or has this been going on for a while and it’s just now starting to affect me?

Past three updates have resulted in increased latency over the course of a week or longer (typically until the next patch).

4 working theories (no evidence except for patents), since this has been ruled-out as being not an local/client or ISP issue.

  1. collapsing population → proxy lies as they host more and more on 1 server per continent. e.g. it will show 40ms but that’s just the last hop, meanwhile ur hosted at 120ms.
  2. not cleaning house and failing to upkeep server/metal. infrastructure is aging out, and MSFT has forced a lot more telemetry (customer data is the product ft. rigging), and possibly a new netcode stack that is just that much more clunky.
  3. crossplay desync. it’s just bloat to try and IDE thumbstick players in with FPS progamers.
  4. DDA rigging. Top-performers get their i/o throttled out and the game is constantly readjusting hitboxes and hitreg scaling breakpoints to artificially force close games and teamfights since the MM doesn’t have enough population to rigg at that layer anymore.
  5. shadowbans and smurf-arrest. game just deprio/throttle sudden smurf reveal so u cant actually dominate and hard carry the lobby after faking a few losses in a row.

There have always been issues with updates.
Server errors that kick all players out repeatedly, bugs, wrong numbers on heroes, adding a feature but the feature doesn’t work, lagging, rubberbanding and of course issues from the players ddossing themselves when way more people than normal log in to try a new feature.

It’s all happened since 2016 in varying amounts, it’s not likely to change either.

Blizzard never had much scalability in terms of servers. Each launch comes with problems, also doesn’t help when their investments on servers are usually low to begin with.

They had way more servers in the past, now… most of theirs are located on U.S.

Think this way, LATAM have one, U.S have 2.

In the past LATAM had more than currently.

Similarly to other places around the world.

When AWS provided services for those we had more locations than GoogleCloud by example. Dunno if is still reality of migrated towards azure, but the point is. They always had less than ideal servers on most cases, even more on launches.

It happens even prior that, blizzard always had launch problems. WoW always had, diablo 2 had, Warcraft 3 too

They literally have 2 presences in Europe; Netherlands and Finland.

This is a joke compared to other games having at least 6 locations in Europe spanning the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Spain, etc.

On top of that, I get the same ping from a different country as the Dutchies do to the Netherlands (23-27ms). Sometimes even lower than them (friend with Ziggo has 30ms somehow, another with FTTH has 25ms)

I’ve also been having 1000% more disconnects than usual. It just lags me out and kicks me out of the game. Friends have been having this issue too, the amount of comp games it ruined is just insane. Every time it happens, I check my internet and it’s completely fine. In fact it’s happening to me right now as I write this lmfao.

Absolute joke.
