What happened to half a decade of “THE TANK DICTATES THE META?”
We said tank and support dictate the metal
Where u getting this from
These frag player will say whatever they need to in the moment. They are honestly trolls and should be ignored. No consistency.
Right. So OP, everyone’s leaving the roll, to dps.
It’s because doomfist is a tank now. So Samito doesn’t wanna blame the tank for the meta and make the role look bad. So he just mentions supports instead (this is a joke btw don’t take it personally)
Tank + support defines the meta because they’re more objective oriented heroes. It’s no surprise here. You could mega-buff tracer and give her 1000hp but that’s still not going to let the DPS define the meta. Because there’s nothing about tracer’s kit that forces the whole team to form their composition around her.
Only way would be for DPS to become more synergistic with other tanks/supports and become more of a team player like mei/symmetra/sombra etc. But these ability based DPS constantly get nerfed because of their annoying nature.
Ive felt like for ages supports and very select few dps ruined the game.
Brig and Bap definetely ruined the game more than anything else.
And ana is what led to the game eventually dying out before that mercy was main healer in 2016 and the game was aruglby the most fun and most popular then.
The forum is like 70% support mains lol. Supports have been OP ever since they started massively powercreeping them around season 3 when the Anapocalypse happened. Then the moth happened. Then Brig happened.
At some point we all just forgot that 50hps Mercy was normal, and that Lucio was a main healer.
Clearly, you do not understand what the word OP means. The only “OP” hero in existence was brig 1.0, end of story. Every role has their job that needs to be fulfilled and has flaws about their role that makes it unfun.
…okay moth mercy was OP too with her >90% pick rate. So two supports were legitimately “OP” technically. But mercy was more of a must pick due to her being overtuned than OP. So I still think only brig 1.0 was the truly broken/OP hero.
It means overpowered?
Were you not around when Ana gutted nearly the entire dps roster from relevance, outhealing all damage with her 100% heal amp bionade, whilst sending in immortal supersonic Reinhardts? Totally crushing the pre-existing meta of Lucio-Zen, by suddenly making the concept of sustained damage irrelevant.
Season 3 was baaaad. Ana was hitting the 95% pickrates towards the end of it in GM. At the time no hero had ever come close to her level of imbalance, and wouldn’t again until moth.
Didn’t Ana release like a month after the game launched? The game was doomed within a month???
support effort to impact is the problem. way too much value for just existing.
that is why its a dead game. why would anyone want to put in effort when it can be so easily mitigated. look at how much support players are malding because they cant just hide behind 2 shields and have a 2nd tank to babysit them in ow2.
imagine having to worry about positioning, triaging resources, managing cooldowns looking out for the 2nd support, hitting shots.
Ana was buffed a couple times after launch, with greater AOE on her grenade and a bigger clip and higher fire rate. Between around november and march 2016, the game was in a really bad state because of her.

Wasn’t fun with her at 95% pickrate. She was the first sign of how badly Blizzard were designing and balancing supports, and a pre-lude to moth meta and ultimately the brig catastrophies that really knocked the game from the mainstream.
Just saying:
1 year of moth meta (mercy)
2 years of goats (brig)
2 years after that of 2x shields resurgence (baptiste)
I just call it like I see it ̄へ ̄
This sounds more like your own personal fever dream. Those who know what’s going on with the game have known about the top DPS and top support dominance ever since the first week of the patch things changed and that tanks are nothing but bottlenecks to the game which makes them the weakest role in the game, because the purely negative aspect of potentially being the biggest throwers in the team doesn’t give net them any positive value what-so-ever which they lack drastically compared to the top DPS and supports of the game. It is obvious.
No, I only started playing this game last year. So I could be wrong on some points. Regardless, it doesn’t sound like ana ruined the game though. So I’m not sure if this was a problem or just the way the game worked at that time.
Even moth mercy was just super overtuned but still killable. It was mainly brig 1.0 that ruined the game by being practically unkillable and uncounterable.
Well, she hit 95% pickrate, and forced the other 5 slots to be played based on their ability to synergise with her, whilst slowing the game’s tempo down to a fraction of what it was before.
If that’s balanced, then that’s pretty wild.
Mercy was different in that she didn’t define a meta, and instead just kinda added on to dive and allowed a variety of heroes to be played. Ana’s influence on the game was much more similar to Brig’s.
In that case, sounds like ana was OP back then, you’ve changed my mind.
1 thing doesn’t suddenly make the other not a thing.
It’s can be both. They arn’t mutually exclusive idea’s.
EG; tanks determine the meta because they are normally what initiates a push and healers are OPAF because things not dying is extremely powerful.
BUT things not dying isn’t enough if you have no initiation tool and the enemy does.
It’s always been both tanks and support. In 2019, support got a ton of well-deserved ire.
Basically, they know it’s something that will probably need addressing, but no one is losing sleep over support being weak for the first time in at least four years, not counting the few months Genji and Hog were meta in 2020.
Saying that supports determine metas is kind of a chicken and the egg question. The way I look at it, is if you remove the supports completely, is the comp still viable. In almost every case, the answer is still yes. So, tanks determine the meta. On the flipside if you remove the tank role, are any of the so-called support metas still viable? Almost none - the only one I can think of is “Goats”. Brigitte’s sustain and shield was so good back then that it would probably still work with just supports and DPS.
