so i have 3 potgs with tracer since i started playing her concurrently. all those games i was like had less elims and lower damage than the other dps. also some supports had more damage than i did. for some reason it seems like tracer is a potg magnet. i remember getting odd ones with her too back then also
i think they should make that support algorithm again and have supports take back the spotlight. i mean supports have all these cool highlights but hardly ever see them. i dont think ive seen one with mercy in quite a while… well i dont play her much. ive had the most with moira of course since she basically is a dps
The algorithm makes me crazy because supports never get it but when they adjust it to help supports get it more, they end up getting it every single match. SURELY they can find some kind of middleground lmao.

So true. I remember for a while that Moira would get PotG every time due to the combo of damage and healing provided by coal.
The issue is if you give supports pog based off healing more it is pretty meh at best.
I honestly don’t want to watch me land 12 healing darts in a row…
I mean mercy pog, held down healing yayyyy.
I’m not opposed to supports getting more pogs but I don’t really care to see a healing pog is all I’m saying.
Healing pog is just playing properly.
Brig pog, throws three packs, lands a whip shot…I don’t really need to see it.
If they wanted adjust it they would need to make a new algorithm for each individual healer imo and I honestly would rather devs work on the game than a clip of a match that doesn’t really matter.
That’s just me though
You could say that about any role. Healing is just doing their job? So is DPS getting kills lol. And it doesn’t have to be healing. It could be the simplest thing like a support getting an elim, using an ability, and healing. Idk personally I think a Kiriko using a good portion of her kit smoothly and effectively is way more interesting than a Dva throwing a bomb or a soldier… shooting people. Like yeah that’s extremely basic gameplay there. I do agree that it’s way more difficult and impractical to code for, for SURE … but those changes could reflect everyone. Potg is boring atp and currently does for DPS exactly what you’re saying would happen for support.

Maybe they could factor player saves into the algorithm? There’s a risk that it will be pretty boring (e.g., Mercy bouncing between a bunch of critical teammates, keeping them from dying, but not much else happening), but I’ve also had some huge saves that should warrant a PotG (e.g., I once saved the full team from a tire - we were clustered together close enough that the tire would have been fatal but everyone was within the zone of lamp).
Watching a player get a triple kill is far more satisfying than watching a tank get healed to full imo.
I main tank and heals and it doesn’t bother me that I don’t get pog on healer often.
But
The way the algorithm is set up, when I DO get pog on a healer it’s masssiiiveeee.
I enjoy the rarity.
Either way it doesn’t matter to me as long as the devs don’t devote time to something so trivial.
Let’s be honest, I can be the worst player in the lobby and get pog. That doesn’t depict how I actually played and anyone that is half decent at the game knows pog means nothing
If anything they should just randomly roll a 12 sided die that chooses a random players highlight…problem solved
I think that PotG isn’t a fixed output. Every time a PotG-worthy event occurs (which is determined based on eliminations, damage dealt, proximity to a checkpoint or game end, whether the person is on fire, the phase of the moon, etc.), that event is added to a pool, and then the game picks one of those events from the pool at random (though the randomness may be weighted, IDK - I think it favors plays near the end of the game).
That’s why you’ll have situations where player A got 4 eliminations and player B got 2 eliminations, but player B receives the PotG. It’s also why you sometimes get PotGs where a player wins a random duel.
Every character has special PotG score. For example, Soldier’s score is one of the lowest. Even if you pop off and get triple kill without ult on last point, you will never see it in PotG. Doomfist’s score is very high, if he ever gets a double that’s PotG right there.
For S76 to get a PotG everyone else must just not do anything all game.
Last night’s PotG was a Moira on stadium just heal misting someone and tossing a heal orb to another. Sometimes I think there’s an algorithm to invoke what I call Pity of the Game to where it randomly selects a player on the losing team and gives them potg for whatever they were doing at a random point in time.
In OW1 as Mercy, I got a pistol kill, popped valk, rezd the tank, damage boosted a dps for a kill, got another pistol kill and the reaper death blossom still got the potg. That’s when I stopped caring about potg
