I’m a console player and I just can’t aim for shaite (I don’t use mouse and keyboard). I’m always too shaky and I feel like i don’t belong in the skill area I’m in because i just suck at aiming. So that being said, I’m asking for a friend. Give me your best tips to improve my aiming.
Its weird i remember growing up playing CoD Blackops on Xbox360 and being able to land 360 no scopes with ease but now 25yo me i miss Monkeys tesla canon
I don’t play console but I lurk and see a lot of people saying turning off aim assist can be helpful.
If anyone can confirm that would be great, but otherwise I’m just here to boost your post
Take shots you do not believe you can land and do not focus on improving your accuracy stat. Just practice. It is that simple. I have top ten percent accuracy on console that way, sometimes higher depending on the character.
I also warm up on the training bots. I never did that weird Ana hs suggestion.
Don’t play Sniper …
If you can’t aim long range, your meant for short range
Seriously don’t play sniper
Here an anime to explain better
I personally lowered aim assist window size, I have it nowadays usually at somewhere in between 20-25 depending on hero. Aim assist window size has impact on that how often and how frequently aim assist assists in aiming circumstances. I also lowered aim smoothing from 100 to 94 or 93.
You’ll need to play with your settings til you find what’s comfy for you. In general I prefer a super high sensitivity and an extended joystick (you can buy snap on extended joysticks for like $15 at GameStop they’re called kontrolfeaks). Again, do what’s comfy for you, but at a high sensitivity I highly recommend extended joysticks. The idea is you can turn quickly but the longer joystick allows you to make smaller more precise movements at the same time.
Set the aim style to linear ramp (default is dual zone)
IIRC, ease in affects your aim speed with small movements, smoothing affects the acceleration from slowest to fastest speeds, sensitivity is just your overall aim speed. With aim assist (no shame using it on console), I’d adjust the aim assist window over the aim assist strength.
As far as being twitchy though that’s just nerves. You’ll have to play through that, relax when you aim. I used to listen to Beyoncé when I was sniping, I don’t know why but it helped me pop off.
Switch your aim tech to linear ramp, and your aim smoothing to 60. You’ll probs have to lower your sens, but now you won’t have that nasty startup when you move the joystick.
Theres no easy way your gonna have to spend a good 1-3 hours per hero just playing with aim settings. The defaults for console are terrible. Honestly I been playing since season 4 and my aim still sucks cause I didnt calibrate properly on a lot of heroes. Only ones I really put the time into are ashe, soldier, roadhog, and hanzo and even they could still be better then what I have them at. Your gonna have to kill alot of training bots then AI bots then take it into a game to see if you have it right. It’s very time consuming and boring but I stopped caring bout that stuff long ago and just try to be average and have fun.
Sensitivity is huge. Truly.
The rest is style. You can flick shot, or track. It’s best to master both.
Ideally, I would take advantage of the aim assist. I usually strafe left and right with L-stick and set the R-stick at character head level. Strafing side to side without rapid movement of the R-stick will usually let the assist pull the reticle to their head. It’s a rather delicate process.
There is no definite way to learn to aim well. It’s person to person. You really need to memorize character frames, movements, and just get a muscle memory for how your sensitivity functions.
A lot is mental too. If you think you’ll miss… you will.
I suggest giving Linear/Exponential Ramps a try. They give you a lot of control with aim. It also breaks away from the negatives of aim assist taking away too much control.
See what I mean? I liked to make my Widow videos cinematic when I used to make them.
With anything other than Dual Zone… I would most definitely say no.
It can be and also it can make things weird.
To the OP, I have aim assist turned all the way off for some heroes, turned down for some heroes, and turned all the way up for others. It’s really gonna take some trial and error, op, to find your comfort zone with each hero.
Also, when turning off aim assist, it becomes almost impossible to go back to having it on. I have my aim assist for Ana turned all the way down and when I tried turning it up again, it felt way too much like the game was wrestling with my controls and I just couldn’t deal. So keep that in mind. Once you go one way on the aim assist and become used to it, going back up will be really annoying.
Go into vs AI and change your aim assist settings to 0 for a chosen hero and play for a few seconds then tinker with your aim settings and carry on like that until you find a really comfortable setting. You can do this in practice range too, but I find vs AI gives you more variety of heroes to aim at and also forces you to move around the payload and walls and just generally a more accurate representation of what you’ll face in the real game.
For most heroes, Total Mayhem is a great place to practice aiming because games can go on forever and you get your abilities reset quicker and health pool is higher so you can really speed up the process of adjusting to an aim hero. Any hero really, but it really upped my Tracer game in Total Mayhem as I could practice for longer periods without dying at aiming for heads and getting the pulse bombs to stick.
Dunno if it still appears in the arcade, but I’m certain there are some custom clones.
The first and most important thing is to understand what which setting does. This helped me a lot:
Then make a custom game for yourself, fill it with bots (turn off their ult and damage) and try to figure out what fits you best. At this moment when you already know what which setting does, you will be able to know what you need to change and how much.
This helped me a lot.
edit: looking at your Sombra stats, you have a good accuracy. Not godlike, but it’s totally ok.
Stay calm, thats my first tip, sudden shifts in the situation can cause you to lose your cool and that can mess up your aim a lot so practice on keeping calm in shifting situations
Find the settings that are right for you, maybe the aim assist window is too large maybe its too small maybe its too strong maybe its too weak, same with your aim smoothing and sensitivity figure out what feels best for you and lands you the most consistent results if you need a place to practice and see what settings work for you there are a lot of good aim training workshop codes you can use even after figuring out the rufht settings for you to continue to improve
Practice your positioning the right position can make all the difference on getting a kill or landing a shot
I believe BackOffMyJankzz made a video on finding your sens and understanding the sens options on console. Getting the right sens for yourself can help improve your (or your friend’s) aim so if you wanted to look into that.
