Aiming subconsciously

Hello. I have a quick question. For the great aimers that can click on heads easily (or can just hit a lot of their shots), do you all think about it consciously or subconscious? I would have to assume subconsciously as there are many other aspects you are needing to be thinking about such as positioning, ultimate tracking, etc

It’s a lot of trusting your muscle memory and practice.

When you practice enough to have that kinda aim thinking can actually impede your performance

You don’t think about aiming, really. I’d say like 80% of shots should be auto piloted. The other 20% are the difficult shots, where you wait for the perfect moment and then click.

If you’re thinking about your aim then you are basically tunnel visioning. You are then weak to flanks because of low awareness, and some more.

Alright. Thank you all very much!

Just play drunk as reinhardt problem solved

(dont forget to bind “catchphrase” and “beer” to easy to use buttons for maximum effect)

Thing is though, with mccree, most of the time I’m holding down to shoot, just due to the fast shooting from the recent buff. I assume he’s talking about the clicking for when it’s a singular target and they’re low or whatever. I know this was before the update, too.

Kephrii once went to training area and shot the bots with Widow without a crosshair.
He was hitting more headshots than I do with a CH…
So, yes. It’s basically muscle memory after you deliberately decided to shoot someone.
That’s also how musicians are able to play their instruments to the highest degree.
Not having to think about what they are doing with their TOOL.
Just thinking about what they want to play. The tool (aka your hand, mouse and cursor) then just magically happens to be at the right spot at the right time.

And the very same rule applies: Practice does the trick. (which sucks ^^ )

I know my aim is better when it’s complete chaos and I don’t have time to think about it.

This is a good watch he covers some things others don’t.
I’m more of a track aimer, and most of the time I am not thinking about aiming, I am just aiming. But when I am having a low accuracy day, I consciously think about what I am doing wrong.

If you have to think about about aiming, you’ve probably already missed.

yeah. thanks so much man

When I’m playing McCree or Ashe, thinking about aiming makes me actually perform WORSE.

You have to make aiming a subconscious skill.

As long as you’re not playing on autopilot, the more you don’t have to think about, the better. Taking time to think about anything takes away from valuable reaction time. From something as simple and mechanical as aiming to something complex as back and forth ability interactions and positional outplays, the people who do it best usually do it subconsciously.

One of the largest components of aiming is memorizing movement patterns. With time, you naturally memorize how different heroes move under various conditions, and you draw from that knowledge subconsciously as you use your muscle memory to track or flick to the moving enemies.

Thinking is too slow.
You have to practice to get muscle memory

Well, take it from me as a 400 hour mercy main, it really comes down to just pure talent. It’s something you’re born with, some people just aren’t meant to play aim intensive characters and that’s ok.

My favorite combination so far is “What do we have here? Beer!”

Nope no talent at all actually, just learned and practiced. Anyone can aim to some degree. Minus a physical limitation of course.

It is a combination of muscle memory and subconsciously. Its usually muscle memory that does all the heavy work, especially when flicking.
