There are quite a few shots I make that I could’ve sworn should’ve hit but end up doing nothing.
I am not talking about projectile heroes here, I am talking about hit-scan heroes like Ashe and McCree.
You could be aiming directly at centre of mass but miss due to a random animation or sporadic movement.
When I miss because of this, I don’t feel like I missed because I wasn’t skillful enough, I feel like no amount of skill could’ve allowed me to hit my target. I feel like the only reason I missed is because of Overwatch BS with zero movement acceleration which is just part of the game.
This is just about me but with ashe im hot or not. I have be in the zone to rock it with her.
Another thing is ow uses interpolation delay which is a visual effect to keep things looking smooth and i have no proof but when my ID is above 30 i feel more of the hit reg issue that you mentioned or lack thereof
Ow is definitely funky sometimes and flick shots are BS and heavily relied upon
There is a known bug that has been around for years where your shot will land on your screen, but it won’t register. It happens on Widow and Ashe. Not sure about cree. It’s pretty rare and I don’t think it was ever patched.
Tbh. Overwatch hitboxes and hit detection seem to be among the best of all fps on the market. Only real issue it has is projectiles hitting when they shouldnt (like times when I clearly aim below the head as hanzo + there should be projectile drop and I still get a headshot) and abilities acting weird or having weird hitboxes (like reins charge getting you when youre clearly behind him for example)
At least comparing hitscan detection to other games I would say owerwatch is near perfect.
Isn’t this just a straight up wrong statement. I can’t say for the hit-detection because there is no real way of testing that but for the hitboxes, Overwatch is far Far away from being one of the best on the market.
All heroes, projectiles etc all have enlarged hitboxes in Overwatch, which is probably because of the design choice of having no movement acceleration.
But saying Overwatch has some of the best hitboxes is just wrong, nearly any other FPS game is better.
Yeah, all those my Hanzo shots that are surprising even for me and all those that went through enemy and arrows stucks in a wall glowing red dealing 0 damage (It glows red only when it hits enemy)
I’m just going to say that human eyes aren’t very good at discerning what happens over the course of a few frames with clarity. More than likely the issue here is that you came really close to hitting the target, but not quite. If there are times the game has cheated you, I guarantee that they are rare.
Long story short, this line of thinking is a barrier to improvement. Instead of taking it at face value, you are allowing yourself to blame the game for your miss instead of taking responsibility for it. I don’t know your background in fps, but I imagine almost every fps has slight nuances to how the shooting mechanics work, and you could also be used to how other games feel.
I’ve been noticing this more and more lately where my dead center shots are not registering, almost like the shot is going through the target. Not sure if it’s something with the servers or the player connections, but not really fun.
Nope I totally agree with you and that is what I think is happening as well (99% of the time), it just feels bad because I feel like there isn’t anything I can do. It doesn’t feel like a skill issue, it is the fact that any hero is capable of instantaneous movement that can move there entire hitbox in a fraction of a second that I can barely perceive or even hope to react to.
You don’t get this is other games, if your cross-hair is at centre of mass, they can’t suddenly twitch and make you miss your shot completely unless they activate an ability or something. Movement acceleration allows for consistent shots and stops even the smallest of twitches making a shot miss completely.
It’s not random at all. It’s clicktiming, coordination, target finding, movement, and animation prediction. Especially with Ashe.
For example, when Zen throws his orb of Harmony there is an animation where he pops up in the air a bit. You would miss a body shot here. You should expect this, and take advantage of the animation to get a crit shot since he’ll be moving in a predictable path. Getting the shot comes with moving your mouse to the right spot, and clicking in the correct time frame.
I have noticed it as well. I was doing some death match just to work on McCree mechanicals (you have to be a real sadist to take McCree in against booping Lucios, orb throwing drain DPS Moiras and a sea of Genjis and Doomfists) and I definitely noticed a lack of hit registration. ITs a well=known problem on Ashe’s scoped view, her regular view seems okay though. McCree though I know there were some times it just didn’t register when it ought to have.
