Ok… so heres the thing.
I am very, very frustrated. I have a feeling that I cant be more inconsistent than I am currently.
My aim is constantly switching between silver, plat and gm… I just dont know what to do… Im so sad when I have bad aim because I know I can do much, much better but I just dont know why Im so inconsistent. for example 3 days ago, I went to bed at 3 am, woke up at 11 and played horribly… 2 days ago i go to bed at 3 am, wake up at 11 am and my aim is godly and yesterday i decided to go to bed earlier, at 2 am and i woke up at 8… and my aim was bad-mediocre. it is always like that. my aim is ok, sometimes good, sometimes bad and sometimes just horrible or godly… please if you have any advice… normally id take a break from ow for a couple months but im so bored i dont have anything else to do… im really frustrated because i dont wanna have bad aim all the time and then one day out of x days have amazing aim… thanks for taking the time to read this
P.S: please dont say, sometimes you just have bad and good days… i know that but my inconsistency is so bad that i really dont think that is normal
Make sure you’re not switching between wrist and arm aiming. Some days you have terrible movement that makes your shots harder to hit. You need to start thinking consciously about your movement and how that will shift your crosshair a little bit.
When are you playing is as important as how you are playing. Some times of day, you get far superior opponents, other times YOU are the superior opponent. This is the flaw in the MMR system, it values you compared to the players you are up against. So you get different skilled people on a different time, that isn’t reflected in your mmr.
On top of that, your diet, your state of mind, sleep (as you mentioned), weather, heat, humidity, age, all factor in.
To be consistent, you need to be consistent in everything. Take takes practice. Lots and lots of practice.
Basically…
When you’re in game, press CTRL+SHIFT+N and look at the SIM tab, the left number is your lowest, middle is your average and right is your highest and you want to get that one down as much as you can, you want your ms to be around 5-8 consistently
Here are some things I learned about aim consistency:
You may be ignoring the impacts of strafe aim which could lead to inconsistent results. Learn to mirror and anti-mirror your movements for more consistency.
Get better sleep, eat healthier, and take breaks. Wakefulness has a huge impact on performance in game.
Lower sensitivity for more consistent aim. But not too low. Like around 4k-5k edpi.
Play aim trainers like KovaaKs and train your weaknesses. You could be really bad at vertical aim and have no idea, leading to inconsistent performance.
Play with confidence and don’t overthink aim. Overthinking aim will lead to inconsistent performance. Aim should be natural and automatic,
Make sure your fps is locked and stable, regardless of what the number is.
It’s all down to the technique.
You get consistency by having a step-by-step process, not just off of feeling.
Knowing how to strafe, and how strafing effects your aim.
Knowing where to naturally place your cross-hair.
Knowing when to go for a headshot or not.
Knowing when to go for a hard shot and when to go for an easy shot
Knowing when your opponent has the peek advantage.
Knowing when and if to swing.
Theres alot that goes into it, you cant just go off feeling.
Play other games because sometimes you can get the yips. Long ago when I was playing Tekken Tag 2 I was dropping basic Eddy Gordo combos that I could do in my sleep.
I played other games on Steam and switched to other fighting games. Came back later and that bad habit of combo dropping was gone.
Inconsistency can creep on anyone. Usually a sign that you are overthinking. Play other games then come back to Overwatch in a few days or weeks
I usually just warm up in the training room for like 5-10 minutes on Widow then McCree or Hanzo, and it generally brings consistency to all my heroes played.
well there are shots that are harder and easier to hit, just make the shots you take as easy for you as possible.
this will lead to better consistency in your aim, allthough there will still be hard shots, now you don’t have to struggle to hit as many of them.
how you make the hard shots easier is generally 2 things, it’s positioning and timing.
you want to eliminate as many possibilities as possible so the shot becomes so straightforward and simple as possible.
for example just resting your aim close to a corner you know the enemy will come from you just simply need to slightly adjust and click.
when you don’t have this luxury of peeking a corner and you have to shoot a moving target, that’s a hard shot because now you’re also doing prediction ontop of trying to be accurate, but take your time with your shots and when you get a read and feel confident of knowing where they will be, that’s where you will shoot.
you can try and play by only using flicks, but honestly i think that’s really stressful and should only be used when you got no other choice but take the risky shot or if you can afford to miss one.
but this is assuming you’re playing a bursty hero, if it’s tracking, it’s simply getting comfortable and having good distance management.
for example, it’s easier to track a lucio further away than when he is in your face doing circles around you.
make fights in your favor as much as possible.
overthinking aim is a big one for me but when i aim well i dont think but when i notice my aim is bad i heavily overthink because i think overthinking wont do anything anyways since i already have bad aim for this day
I’ve had the same dilemma for a long time. At times I have a day, where I can’t seem to miss, it’s like I’m Surefour all of the sudden! But, that’s only half of it: it seems like I’m playing in real time, but my opponents are in slow-mo, where I can see the whole map clearly, anticipate their movements and decisions, while mine are spot on and flawless! These days are rare, however, and much more common are the ones where my aim is mediocre, and I can almost see myself from the side making decisions, which are a split second too late, which, in turn, results in rushing and making more bad decisions, and tunnel vision and ever so worsening aim (hand-eye coordination).
I’m afraid that there are no easy solutions, and the answers you seek lie deep within human psychology and, specifically, subconscious. It has an immense influence on our performance levels, without being easily identified, quantified or qualified. You can spam your mind with motivational mantras and try to get as much sleep as you can (too much sleep may be no more conducive to better performance than not getting enough of it), but those subconscious thoughts and feelings are hard to influence.
One area you can work on is your brain’s biochemistry. Raising your endorphin levels through exercise, for example, could lead to better overall performance in Overwatch. There’s a limit to where this could lead, however, and there are pitfalls inherent to overdoing it, putting too much stake in it, or trying to take shortcuts with the help of pharmaceuticals.
You just focus on the other fundamentals of FPS and Overwatch. Aim is not the end all be all unless ya playing a hero like Mcree or Widow.
Everyone be it athletics or gaming gets into a slump. You break out of it by improving on other aspects of your game. If you can be a better assist kill for your teammates, better peel for supports or tanks caught out of position laying down cover fire.
How you function in teamwork is way more important than your aim percentage. Once you learn to not worry about aim then things come back naturally and you just play your way that got you to this level
They most definitely have those very off days, all competitors and athletes do. They are, however, better equipped to power through them than the average person. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t have made it so far in their respective fields.
