(Sorry if my English is wrong) I play on Xbox and when I first tried to play a QP with a friend on PC, I wondered: “why my aim is so strange?”, and then I realised that the aim assist was turned off. The aim assist in Overwatch is balanced, but even with it on it would be difficult for console players to play against PC. In Apex Legends, for example, the aim assist is much more aggressive and they don’t turn it off for players using controllers on PC servers, but the majority still prefers mouse and keyboard.
I know that some people will just say “you are bad”, but I think that the aim assist is not a problem, it will just make the experience for console players better and console players won’t “destroy PC players because of the aim assist”.
(Aim assist just exists to compesate the fact that it’s more difficult to aim in a controller than in a mouse. It doesn’t make sense to turn it off.)
Update: reading some answers and other posts, I saw that some people think the aim assist makes all the console players good, but no. There are players of all ranks who use aim assist: a bad player would be balanced with bad players on PC and a good player would be balanced with good players on PC. The match would be balanced and the controller player would not carry the game or destroy the game, it would be just another normal player.
Honestly, considering it’s only casual modes I don’t care that they have it, even if some people use it with KBM. Based on how it actually works I can’t imagine that it’s actually good with mouse either.
I would be ok with that.
However I believe the main issue would be unaware people that don’t know you’re using aim assist reporting you for cheating.
Aaaaaand since the report system is TOTALLY automated a lot of innocent people would be banned.
That’s what I think at least.
There so many PC players who use controller for Overwatch and have never had aim assist.
It has never been a feature on the PC version of the game, and there is GM player on PC who uses controller and he’s reached T500 too not sure of his rank now, I assume he stays around the same SR.
Apex Legends have crossplay as well, console people get to keep their aim assists but (given in the same rank in competitive mode) PC people will still prevail.
(Edit, Im not taking any side on this topic but i’d just like to share my experience in gaming)
I know Joystick, I really like him, but he is 0,1% of the players with controllers who reached a good rank in PC. And there are players who prefer to turn the aim assist off too, but the majority likes it and I think it should be enabled on PC.
And the most important thing: we are talking about casual matches. It’s important to make a good experience for console players too and it wouldn’t harm the Competitive.
I don’t think Blizzard is going to give console players aim assist in PC lobbies, because they’re afraid that they will be bombarded with complaints from PC players.
Well, unfortunately, no one can convince those PC players that it’s nothing to worry about lol
I am all for console having aim assist but it might be extremely difficult for the average player to outaim aim assist so doubt it will happen, Only way I could see this working is if they made 2 gamemodes, 1 with aim assist and one without but with the player count decreasing I doubt they will want to divide it even further
I mean, they’re complaining now because we “suck” and we “can’t aim” and we’re “ruining their games”, so basically we’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t give us back aim assist.
Without aim assist, pc players complain that we’re not good enough to play in their lobbies, but with aim assist, pc players will complain that we’re OP and too good to play in their lobbies.
Neither of which is true, btw, but people are gonna believe whatever suits their opinion.
