A while ago I had noticed the amount of bot players, not only in quickplay, but in competitive as well. And in this recent patch notes this was confirmed.
Players new to Overwatch 2 may encounter AI-controlled opponents in the first five opening matches of Quick Play.
“Oh, but they only announced this now.” Yes, I know that, but it’s been a long time since the release of Overwatch 2 that bot players have been appearing in the game. In the last few seasons, this number has increased significantly. In other words, to fill the queues, the game has been discreetly placing players controlled by bots.
AI controlled players playing against other players are useless. I can prove this in PVE missions. Bots don’t know how to behave, they don’t know how to shoot, they don’t know how to walk. They just wait for you to do anything so they can start doing it too.
I don’t think they’ll ever do that in Comp. It would be a reputation killer among the “Multiplayer gaming” crowd.
However, I think we might get bots in QP in the future (even veteran players) if the Overwatch population decreases some more and if they keep forcing Role Queue in a game that clearly can’t afford it anymore.
I’ve played some Overwatch today and QP queues were longer than usual and 4v4 queues were even worse than what I was used to…
OW devs had better have some real good news on February 12th (a real sequel or an expansion) if they don’t want OW to officially enter the “niche game” zone… (which is fine but clearly not what they want in terms of making as much money as possible).
So, practically every game there is a player like this. Always with weird nicknames, and always with a private career profile, you can’t even tell if it’s a bot or not. But given the “dumb” behavior of these “bots” in playing and now the official confirmation, I have no doubt that they have done this before.
That is if it was the old team in management of Overwatch 2… I don’t expect anything useful on the 12th. It will be another attempt by Blizzard to attract content creators back.

Remember, Overwatch 2 was always about PVE and never about PVP.
Without being a conspiracy theorist, they probably tested it discreetly over the last few months with the rare new players they could find but this has nothing to do with the Torb bot building a turret over and over again 'till his death, like we saw in OW1.
Many forumers think OW devs chose to go down this road because of Marvel Rivals but I don’t think that’s the case.
It has probably more to do with the fact that new players feel discouraged when starting the game because they end up always with and against smurfs / alt accounts (mostly people who got banned on another account and are starting all overagain).
Probably. I don’t want to be all negative about it but I’ll believe it when I see it. Overwatch let me down so many times in the last 3 years so I’ll never have any high hopes until they announce a real sequel.
Yup, and they didn’t even have enough content for PVE to make it a full P2P game so yeah… it’s practically impossible to make Overwatch feel like a shiny new toy in 2025… but who knows… ? Let’s wait and see.
Idk if i’m unlucky. But almost EVERY comp match there’s an troll player.
Because this i had tought the bots was present even before official announcement.
They had, in last few announcements in blizzcon, they said almost missions was completed playable and ready to launch, including PVE event missions (like in underground event). Its on youtube.
The Pharah gameplay is hard to tell… The little jumps at the start feels like someone that is impatient to play and it doesn’t strike me as a bot… Maybe some very drunk or high player… ? Hard to tell… I’m no expert but yeah what followed after the round started is pretty ridiculous.
We already got the story mode with 3 playable missions. The rest was probably only in a very mediocre state to be fully released… or maybe they are keeping it for another occasion…
They’re unpredictable. They never let us know anything.
Edit : The Pharah was emoting and killing herself in another one of your clips, it’s definitely a real player, simply trolling or tripping IRL.
Edit 2 : Their username is “Avoidme”… I guess it’s someone who takes pleasure in ruining the game to others, hence why QP penalties are more than ever necessary in 2025 Overwatch.
But was literally in blizzcon, even sequel mission of Suravasa (after Talon encounter zenyatta), iirc they said that was most complicated because they had to feel widow graplin hook should be smooth and not feel scripted.
Basically they took all jeff job and discarded to release Overwatch 2 as GAAS game.
Private profiles are the default for new accounts. Like I said, if you saw dumb behavior before, these were just people leveling new accounts to sell for money.
The OW devs would not make this announcement if it’s something they were already doing behind the scenes.
That’s why I said that the comp mode needs to be more restricted, if the player doesn’t play the game for at least 3 months in a row, they lose full access to the comp. If the player is considered inactive, remove all access to the competitive, and when that player returns, they complete the list of missions/tasks to play the comp again.
This screen you’re posting doesn’t really prove Soldier’s talent tree was ready to be used. It could probably be some placeholder icons with alpha ideas they didn’t have time to finish.
But anything can be true. Maybe they just scrapped Jeff’s worked when he left. At this point, it’s only personal theories from us.
What I do know, though, it’s that it would have been very difficult to make all those talent trees useful with that many heroes to cover. The project was way too big for them to handle in 3-4 years, while updating OW1 from time to time.
Dunno where this narrative came from. The Overwatch 2 trailer from 2019 explicitly included PVP stuff lol. Overwatch 2 was always going to be a PVP + PVE package deal.
I still think comp matches already had bots playing before. See this “player”, look how they move, these smooth stoping movement can only be achieved with controller or if its AI based Soujorn player: https://streamable.com/8a8xic I recovered this video from records i made in GFN.
Don’t make sense playing in PC queue with controller because dont have aim assist.
If I was forced to play this trash on PC, I would do it with a controller. As easy as it woud be to dominate players that can point and click and still struggle to aim… Keyboard is a deal breaker. Qwerty can go uiop itself.
This person is playing on a controller. Just because it doesnt make sense to you doesnt mean nobody is doing it. I know people on PC who play with a controller.
