After watching Shanghai Dragons vs. Vancouver Titans, I'm strongly against role lock

Shanghai Dragons absolutely crushed GOATS over and over to the point that Vancouver swapped to Soldier: 76 just to counter Pharah. They did the same to NYXL. GOATS isn’t the most optimal team composition and Dragons proved it.

Dragons was running either 2 Support, 3 DPS, and 1 Tank or 3 Supports, 1 DPS, and 1 Tank, and they made for one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever seen. Those compositions are impossible in a 2-2-2 role lock. This game would’ve been impossible in a 2-2-2 role lock.

Please don’t take that away.

EDIT: Shanghai Dragons defeated NYXL, Vancouver Titans, and San Francisco Shock back-to-back-to-back without using GOATS once, and the finale was the best OW match I’ve ever seen in my life. A clear sign that the meta is indeed changing and extremely enjoyable, right before role lock comes in. :unamused:

If Shanghai does wins against SF shocks GOATS composition tomorrow in the Finals then I DO have strong belief that the OWL commissioner would delay 2-2-2 role lock until next year

But if LA Valiant wins against shock today... We will have to see what happens tomorrow and see if they go in favor of DPS composition.

it would be tactically tougher for the OWL commissioner to sell to the E-sports Board

2-2-2 is only needed if Blizzard can’t balance their game.

And so far, the only thing that is stopping them from balancing their game is their unwillingness to wind back changes that are obviously bad. Why did it take so long to fix Mercy 2.0 despite the fact that she was obviously broken? Why did it take so long to bring Brigitte under control? Why are they buffing every DPS in the game instead of admitting that Hanzo 2.0 is too strong? Why will they add 2-2-2 instead of fixing actual balance issues? These questions all have the same answer.

Does that mean we get to revert armor, brig, Lucio, Zen, Zarya and Dva nerfs? How about the dps buffs to Reaper, Sombra, Pharah, Junk and Soldier?

Since goats isn’t a problem, we should be able to revert those, right?

Nope, we cannot, not without role queue, because comps that stack sustain will always be a problem and can come back at any point with a single balance change or new hero.

And by the way, even the Dragons were running triple support + DPS some times, because you cannot balance sustain without limiting it. If anything this match proves why we need role lock and queue so much even more.

makes 0 sense sustain DPS?

in terms of 2-2-2 and OWL…it has never made less sense than right now…like if they wanted to do it after stage 1 or 2…i could see it…but right now? before the actual playoffs begin and when teams are slowly but surely changing up what theyre doing…it makes no sense…past couple of weeks have been so fun to watch seeing all the experimenting (and success)

Yes, Mercy, Ana, Brig. Loads of healing to keep everyone alive.

I don’t believe that 321 is a problem comp at all. 222 and 321 both being viable comps is not a bad thing.

It’s 330 and 411 that “everyone” dislikes.

The comp is fine, but it shows how powerful stacked healing is.

Just make it a conditional 2-2-2 until you reach a decay-able elo. After that, do whatever you like

I hate to break it to you but 222 lock is coming anyways. In-game & for owl after stage 4 starts. Regardless if Dragons won Titans today.

No one really cares if you’re against role lock buddy.

If we revert armor lucio d.va but buff junkrat mines to no falloff dmg keep, buff soilder , buff reaper, buff pharah (who won vs. Titans) buff sombra

Then it would be theoritcally possible to balance without role Q

(zarya, and zen even with nerfs are still balanced dont need revert)

Do my eyes decieve me?

Shanghai actually beat the Titans?

The Titans?

My mind is wondering whenever it just exploded or detonated, so now I’m making up a new word to describe what happened to it: it explodinated

Not only beat, absolutely wrecked.

Almost completely one-sided.

They didn’t just beat them. They ripped them in half

They also ran 3 dps a bit.

3 of any role should provide strong role benefits. You need a lot of damage run 3 dps. You need something sturdy, run 3 tanks. You need a lot of heals, run 3 supports.

Why shouldn’t running 3 of any role not be a powerhouse performance for that role?

321 doesn’t shut out any role. And leaves a clear deficit to exploit for whichever role gets the low end of the stick.

Now I completwly regret not tuning in

Holy crap that must’ve been awesome

And then we are messing up ladder because of a comp no one likes, and the next hero might create the next 3-3, or a single balance change brings it back again.

No, lock it away or it always be a pain to work around. Kill it with fire.

GOATS was like a little puppy against Pharmercy and Hackfist. It was glorious.

Thats the reason I keep telling people 2v2v2 isn’t the answer, its like chopping off your arm to fix an infection, sure it fixes it, but it cripples what you can do.
