After playing the Halo Infinite test I have to say

btw Halo Infinite is a great game. But the gameplay is vastly different.

But one thing that Halo does right is that PROJECTILES DOESN’T DESPAWN MIDAIR JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE KILLED. I don’t know how Halo games does it but it never happens in that game. Getting kills from the grave is a mechanic that is even rewarded as a medal.

That, to me, is the biggest reason hitscan has felt so oppressive in Overwatch. You abilities and bullets disappear midair for whatever reason just because you got clicked on. This should be changed for OW2. It feels like BS, for example: when you shoot a helix rocket as Soldier at a Genji that nanoblades in the air only to have it disappear 3 meters outside your gun because someone else sniped you.

I know that after a projectile has traveled a long distance it will not disappear. But this problem occurs at smaller to mid distances.

Worse than a single projectile being despawned is an entire ultimate being despawned. That was the most anti-fun change they made to Overwatch so far in my opinion.

Nothing like having a pulse bomb vanish into thin air.

It wouldn’t bother me as much if it was pretty universal. Hammond/Torbjorn ults stay on the field after being slain. However, Mei’s is lost mid flight. It actually has to deploy in order to stay.

Though I will say it still feels really rare for projectiles to disappear after death. There are so few that this interacts with as several say are transformative. Winston, Bastion, Blade, Visor, etc.

What projectiles despawn on death? As far as I’m aware, Orisa barrier stays, firestrike stays, pulse bomb doesn’t unstick from someone or despawn off the ground, blizzard continues to freeze, Junkrat nades continue to exist, Pharah rockets keep flying, sticky bombs stay flying/stuck, antinade & sleep dart continue to fly through the air etc.

I don’t think I’ve ever shot helix & had it actually enter the airspace then disappear. Maybe you’re talking about the difference between what happens on your screen vs. Enemies because they happened at the same time?

I want to say Pharah, Tracer, and Mei this happens on.

Depends on what you mean.

If you mean you throw pulse bomb/Blizzard/shoot a rocket as you die than yea it’s normal for it not to come out. It didn’t even happen on the enemies screen because you died as you did it.

If you mean something else then I’m not sure I’ve experienced it. I don’t have rockets disappearing midflight or pulsebombs disappearing after I stick people, or blizzard disappearing once it’s triggered

sleep dart is one of them. usually when i late in using it while dueling with roadhog, his bullet kill me first but he doesn’t get sleep. I’m sure this is because the projectile vanish on death.

That happens because the guy who clicked you never saw you shooting.

#1 player says ‘I clicked player #2 and he never did a shot’
#2 player says ‘I shot but then got killed and my shot disappeared’
Server just looks at this, and following internal rules declares that #1 is correct.

Ah I see what you mean. I thought you meant projectiles were despawning midair since that’s the way you worded it. What’s happening is you’re dying while casting it. It never really existed, it just came out on your screen but no one elses. If you watch the killcam/replay you might start the animation but the projectile never actually exists

I think what happens is projectiles that connect in some way shape or form with the environment, become a part of the environment (so to speak). Where as if it hasn’t collided with anything, it’s considered part of the player still and will vanish if the player dies before it has a chance to fully be realized/deploy.

I don’t know if Orisa’s still does it, but there were on super rare occurrences where her shield would poof away if she died after throwing it up in the air. I think that’s long since been fixed though, I’d have to experiment.

Most projectiles are finicky, some will vanish, others won’t so I think OP just wants more consistency much like Halo.

if the meter gets spent the projectile should always happen even if you die or get stunned.

having a pulse bomb / mei blizzard simply disappear AND lose the ulti meter…that feels terrible.

also vanishing graviton surge

“Projectiles despawning” and “abilities with a cast time not completing” are very different things.

Question. Did you play with controller at all? I love halo but one of the things I hate about mcc is the controller aim assist is very strong and has an advantage over kbm with the battle rifle which is a very good a common weapon. I understand this is probably due to the games being originally coded for console so the aim assist is naturally strong. Does it seem like they have lessened the aim assist for infinite?

Wait, I don’t think that should normally happen in the first place. If your projectiles/Ultimate disappear after you’ve been killed then either you didn’t complete the cast animation or it looks like you did because there’s a latency difference.

Yes the point is that having an invisible “cast” time when visually it has already been launched into the air feels terrible when it just disappears. At least in the past it didn’t actually use your ultimate meter if this happened which was much better.

As Tracer you can even stick someone and then it is just gone because the server didn’t register you completing a “cast”.
