Afraid to communicate now

So, Over the last month I’ve gotten “You’ve been reported repeatedly for… you could be banned”…
I stream pretty much every time I play, I watch what I say. I admit I’ve been known to be snarky at times but after the first warning this season I made sure to be Mrs. Positivity. I think the worst thing I’ve said is “Maybe not play DVA into Zaraya?”
I’ve also taken to just dropping comms entirely if I feel myself feeling irritated. To avoid mistakes…
I do however post jokes from time to time at the start of matches. I was told by someone that they reported me for these. Let me list them for you:
Do you know why Mercy only wears wigs to change her hair color?
Turns out that real heroes, never DYE!!
Did you know that after Overwatch went under, Soldier had a successful website business?
He always knew how to get everyone in his sites!
Did you know that Rein had a business once, unfortunantly it failed.
Sadly it turns out he’s always charged too much!

Those are a few examples, little punny comments.

I also was told I was reported for "sounding like "… well ya, I’m trans, post op, I can’t change my voice. It is what it is.
Your new system is highly abused, and making the game unfun. It’s a game about “eliminating” people with violence… and you’re hammering people for quote unquote not nice comms? I get the vile rude crude cursing and truly abusive behaviors, but this is out of hand now.

I’ve muted all forms of chat. It’s Toxic and all it does is get you banned faster with everyone reporting for anything.

Use pings and hope your team figures it out. If I have to stay in low ranks because of it, it’s better than not being able to play at all.

Sadly you aren’t wrong, and that’s the worst thing, I’ve made many a friend via chat.

Unfortunately however the report system works for text/voice detection of a trolling/griefing/whatever doesn’t seem to have any sort of context or rhyme or reason for if someone’s actually being toxic. It seems to be more based on frequency of reports.

The truth of the matter is there’s nothing you can really say in text or voice. Including calling things out, Making suggestions, or trying to coordinate. Part of it is a social issue where everyone thinks they deserve a higher rank and everyone is enraged at the idea that that someone else could dare offer a different approach of teamwork gameplay.

HEAR HEAR Dev’s you gotta fix this mess you made.

idk, this suggestion may be far-fetched but - maybe stop blaming and hassling the tank. maybe theyre fed up playing the worst role in the game (and alone) while being flamed for everything by everyone so they just have a report & mute reflex.

I was giving an example of a mild suggestion I might make. If that’s harassment, there are serious issues here.

Reported. See how easy it is just to report someone regardless of what you said?

I’ll play devils advocate and say that if it was announced before your game that the winning team gets a million bucks, I bet all of you would join voice and try to work together.

Gone are the days where 5 were in chat and everyone is calling out… Like I always appreciated the player than im sure you would call “toxic” but just wanted to win and was passionate.

The game gave people solutions with mute, block, avoid, yet, players NEED TO BAN THE “TOXIC.”

Im with you now, all chat is turned off.

I just got silenced, I know it’s mostly for my voice, and for a few cheesey posted pun dad type jokes about the game… OW is borked.

I thought the jokes were amusing.

The reporting system definitely needs more human oversight.

Yeah I got a warning for texting “Can I get a heal, pls” :joy:

Yea that’s Blizz for you. People will go on racial rants with slurs, make threats of irl violence, and use non stop hate speech in forums or games. Even after reporting and avoiding them you’ll still get put into matches with the same players, but then get silenced or banned yourself for asking for a heal or a swap.

It’s not gunna change anytime soon so best you can do is play the game your way and have fun, communicate or give callouts where you can, and if kids are still being toxic then leave chat. If they complain about it then that’s their problem not yours.

I have a 4 rating on endorsements, you don’t get that being toxic.

Not saying you were. Just saying that to blizzard it doesn’t matter and unfortunately they aren’t going to change their policies anytime soon which is annoying cuz now people don’t want to talk in game like you said.

So best you can do is try your best and keep communicating, but if people in game are going to be toxic to you, then just leave chat. That’s their problem and fault not yours.

I had level 5 and still got a Ban. It’s about quantity. The more games you play the closer you get to getting a ban. You can get reported just for spawning a hero the other person doesn’t like.

I got silenced for standing up against a team mate that was called horrible things by a screaming Arabic guy.

You can’t even swear in general, as a reaction to someones ultimate.

But you have to accept being placed with fresh players and bronze ranked against premades, smurfs and higher ranks.

You could almost say that it’s a modern version of digital communistic entertainment.
